  1. Pederson distanced himself from the past of this program and I understand that and in some respects, again, SOME, I did agree with it. Osborne cast a large shadow over this program, Nebraska football needed to get out from under that shadow in some respects, because that staff and the folks who built that program weren't here any longer. What has always rubbed me the wrong way about this is how upset people were when Steve did these things and when similar events go down a few years later that are "in favor" they are suddenly alright. It comes back to the hypocrisy. Much like the criticisms of the walk-on program under Callahan/Pederson. Callahan was so evil, they cut the walk-on program and Bo came to "save it", but in reality, nothing has really changed with it. It was simple gasbagging rhetoric so that the new staff could play "Joe-Hero" There is a way to distance yourself from previous regimes without tossing them under the bus. I don't care how incompetent or successful things were seen.
  2. We just jumped off the cliff here. There was never any kind of concerted effort by the NU Administration to disparage the Callahan Era. All the criticism you heard came from those outside the current organization, from former players to fans. You did not hear comments from Perlman, Osborne, Bo Pelini or anyone else where they publicly disparaged Callahan, Cosgrove or Pederson. If you can point to those, they'll be the first time I've seen them. Certainly it cannot be ignored that under Pederson/Callahan (and mostly Pederson, as we're finding out as time goes on) there was an effort to steer the culture of this program away from what it was under Osborne and Solich. For that, Pederson definitely deserves criticism - far more public criticism than he's received from official sources. The fact that there hasn't been a public tar-and-feather session speaks volumes of the character of our current AD and his staff. That's not to say that there haven't been references to Callahan, Cosgrove and/or Pederson - but you cannot avoid them. You can't simply pretend those years didn't exist, and you cannot refer to them in positive terms. The years under Pederson, especially after he fired Solich, were the darkest time of our program in the last 45 years. Necessarily references will be negative, and the fact that they are largely glossed over when referred to at all rather obviates the "puppy killers and abortions" reference. If we're talking about the fans, meh. The fans are going to say whatever they want, and you can't stop them. They express themselves differently than those working at Stadium Drive, and their comments and attitudes can't be applied to the Athletic Department. A number of these comments and these attitudes have been more internal and a public tar and feather session. At the same time, when you know what the message internally has been, and you look at what has been said publicly, it is more of reading between what is said. Simple and subtle comments by Bo about "we put the stars on recruits" are comments charged with incredible angst and a very public effort from the program to distance themselves from the past. The message was clear, do everything and anything you can to reinforce that idea and put time and space between yourselves and the previous staff. The same holds true for the scheduling. Jamrog in 2008--- "It looks like they wanted to schedule a bunch of wins. We can't do anything about it. We can't do anything about the guarantees that were set, unless you want to cancel the contracts. But we aren't interested in doing that." He knew there was an opportunity there to take the a shot, and he took it.
  3. This statment makes it obvious you have no clue what he actually does. That was a bit of a head-shaker for me, too. Not sure where that criticism even comes from. I have been critical of Jamrog because of some boneheaded things he has done and said since getting here, and certainly his requirement that players call him "Coach" and his headset are just a few of the things that make him an oddball character. That being said, as an administrator he has been alright, and he actually took the time to respond to some critical emails after we announced some future schedules filled with patsy games. One of the first acts when he got here was to throw the previous scheduling/schedulers under the bus because they filled it with some easy games. There were direct quotes where he took shots at people like Tim Cassidy because of how the upcoming years looked, and here is today announcing some future non-conference schedules that are at best, on par with those that he inherited. Again, kind of goes back to the PR campaign waged when we transitioned to Pelini as our coach, everything and anything from the previous regime needed to receive the "slash and burn" treatment, because as we all know, not only was Bill Callahan and his staff bad a coaching, but they also performed abortions on the side and volunteered as puppy killers at the Lincoln pound. Yep, a group of baby and puppy killing no good people who couldn't coach worth a lick.
  4. People really need to learn the difference between facts and opinions. And that's just my opinion, not a fact. I't's amazing how many people claim their "opinions" are "facts" because....well.....because.......they say so! No you two need to pull your head out of the sand and look at the facts. It's thinking like that that makes me want to throw up every time they call NU fans the best in the country. The facts back up the opinion that he sucks as a coach. Just look at the numbers while he's been here without your scarlet and cream glasses on. What is so odd to me is that the poster refers to our previous offensive coordinator in mocking fashion as Callawatts, but he gets really defensive of any criticisms leveled against Cotton. The same guy also uses facts and information to form his opinions on Watson and passes off his opinion of Watson being an incompetent boob as a "fact" but it is when your "facts" are in disagreement with his "facts" that he again reverts back and starts attacking your "facts" as an opinion. A very odd dynamic indeed.
  5. The problems with Milt haven't been overblown. Milt's respect for Cotton as a coach is almost nonexistent. The time that Osborne and Tenopir have spent trying like hell to get Barney to a level of even basic competency is mind boggling, and this has been at Bo's request, because he recognizes this as a huge problem. The writing is on the wall with Cotton's move to the booth on this one. Spare me the Tenopir comparison, because Milt had proven himself as a coach, and was allowed to do those things. Cotton has not proven himself as a competent coach/coordinator in his time here in Lincoln. This move has see you later written all over it, much like it did for Ekeler last fall. If you get our your Bo cypher, you will see what this means. Next year Barney will likely still be in the "front office" where he can be the recipient of "Husker Welfare" I gave you an inadvertent +1 there, so Merry Christmas. I don't know what you're talking about with the "spare me the Tenopir comparison" because I wasn't in any way comparing Barney to Uncle Milt. It's weird that you pulled my post from three days ago out and responded to it, because it seems like you're responding to someone else. I apologize on that one, I thought I was responding to the comments on your original post made by another poster. I replied to the wrong guy. The part about Tenopir was to highlight that the "spin" in defense of this move is to point out that Uncle Milty was up in the box for games, and he was successful with it, so give Barney some slack. While it is true that Milt Tenopir was up in the box and he is universally accepted in football circles as one of the best OL coaches, the same doesn't necessarily hold true for Cotton. I mean, if you look at something like Apple Corporation, Steve Jobs is the straw that stirs that drink. Sure he has had tons of resources and great people around him to make these things happen, but if you traded me for him tomorrow, that company wouldn't achieve the kind of success they have because I'm not Jobs, and I would likely want to make changes, and while I would be perched in the same spot he is, my view on the whole world is miles apart from Jobs. Same applies here with Milt and Barney, just because they are both perched up in the pressbox on gameday, doesn't really indicate much of anything about potential "Milt-esque" success we might have up front.

  7. Yes but they were still only about 1000 yards off from our championship teams that consistently ran the football in the 90s. And last year's totals include a championship game and the bowl game that they didn't used to count toward statistics. Take for example the 1995 team. In 11 games they averaged 399 yards per game rushing and 156 passing. (4398 rush, 1721 pass) Last years squad over 14 games 247 yards rushing and 150 passing. (3466 rush, 2108 pass). Even our bad teams that sputtered put up stats in 11 games that we now put up in a 14 game season. So...yeah Cotton your guys are coming up with 3 guys that almost hit 1000 yards. But you're doing it in 3 more games and your not having the 2-3 other guys coming up with 500 yards rushing to support that cast. More important than any of the yardage statistics are the penalties and sacks because of their direct correlation to a failed drive, which ultimately kept us from winning games. Over the past 3 years, playing a top 50 defense hasn't been pretty from a numbers standpoint. Only once have we had a serviceable day, and that was against OU in 2008, when we didn't have a prayer to win.
  8. 24 hours I will save you all the trouble on this one. He isn't coming here. Even if you were just reading the tea leaves it would be pretty obvious.
  9. Can you back this up? Also, I'd like to see evidence that T.O. will fire Bo & Co. if he falls short of a MNC this year. Pony up or STFU already. Also we're still waiting on proof that Bo got kicked out of a softball game, or whatever you said before. Now you just aren't reading too well, and instead are reading your own personal bias into it. I said a conference championship and/or BCS Bowl game, which is completely different in the scope of the conversation. I don't have to provide you with squat. The softball game incident is what it is, since your mind is already made up on the matter, and your head firmly implanted in the sand about it, there is no point in providing you anything else in the matter. It is a closed matter, has been for a week. Ok, fair enough, please provide evidence that T.O. will fire him if he falls short of a coference championship this year. And, no my, mind isn't made up on the matter, because you still haven't provided evidence. Go on, I'm all ears. You can say your mind isn't made up, but the tone indicates that you are completely dismissive of anything and everything, so there is nothing gained or served by sharing any more information about the incident, which isn't in question. Perhaps if you were aware of striking difference between where Osborne is perched now as opposed to a year ago at this time, you would actually see what I'm talking about. He has distanced himself from the day to day operations of the football program for a number of reasons, and I can't believe that being disrespected by the head football coach and his subordinates makes him feel like being understanding and empathetic, should they struggle. A simple "no I can't back up any of my claims" would have sufficed. Only on the conditionality that your interpretation of that post was accurate. As it isn't, the post isn't worth the wasted pixels used to publish it. I suppose I better go all CIA and start wearing a wire, a helmet cam and tapping my own phone, so I can upload conversations, emails and other forms of personal communicae to this board. GTFO, the useless message board adage of "show me a link, or it ain't real" is the best way to "lose" and argument.

  11. When you set your own objective, and that objective is winning a national championship, anything less than that means it is a failure. To have not hit any of the secondary goals like the ones mentioned, is signifying a failure. This program isn't about 10-4 so so seasons, it is about winning championships, at least of the conference variety. Bo put this staff together, because he believes he should have won two conference championships and a National Championship, but the offensive holdovers were the reason he didn't win one. So now that he has "his" guys in place, there is nothing holding him back. Go get'em tiger...It is time for the excuse train and placing blame on everyone to stop. From here on out, any failure unequivocally falls on the shoulders of the head coach, as there are no more scapegoats around to pin it on and fire. Please reply to the guy who said "Christ man." I want to see what you come up with in response to a two word post now that I've seen your response to a five word post. A five word post in which you quote me and misrepresent what I said, so I expounded on the point made, which you tried to gloss over.

  13. Here is the kicker, what I've been talking about lately. I understand and appreciate that today firing Bo would be a really tough sell and would certainly upset many fans, the public backlash initially would be strong. However, what if the headline was, "Bo Fired" and underneath the header, AD Osborne cites Bo punting kittens into Holmes Lake as tipping point, and a file photo of Bo punting a Calico into the lake included below, now we might see a completely different set of reactions.
  14. Oh good, you're posting again. When you set your own objective, and that objective is winning a national championship, anything less than that means it is a failure. This program isn't about 10-4 so so seasons, it is about winning championships, at least of the conference variety. From here on out, any failure unequivocally falls on the shoulders of the head coach, as there are no more scapegoats around to pin it on and fire. So what you're saying is, he gets 1 year with all his own staff and if he doesn't win it then he should quit or be fired? You're a daft one aren't ya? Welcome to the board, I'm fairly certain you wont be around too long. I will make it simple, he is on a year to year basis at this point. That isn't with me, that is how he is going to be evaluated from here on out. He put himself in this position over the course of the last three seasons. A conference championship and/or a BCS bowl berth would be another step for this program. He gets this year to show what he can do with "his" guys. He has largely had "his" guys in place since Day 1, but with the departure of Watson and Gilmore, there are no more Callahan scapegoats left. This is major college football, it is about winning and getting results now. Not next year or two or 5 years from now. There are such things as rebuilding years for teams, but the funny thing about rebuilding is that there was something to rebuild to, in 3 seasons so far, the highest we have "built" to is the 2009 season, which was a four loss season. If you are Bob Stoops, Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Mack Brown or even ol' Jim Tressel, you can have a 4 or 5 loss season and not be on the hot seat because when you produce like those guys do, see: conference championships, BCS Bowl Appearances, National Titles/BCS Championships contested. So far, if you compare Bo's resume to any of those guys, it currently doesn't contain any of those things, 2011 is his chance to rectify that.
