  1. Saw that too. The article I read said their DB coach Paul Rhodes is expected to be at least co-DC in 2017 so I wonder if that might deter Diaco? It would seem to me a former HC and "proven" (for lack of a better word) coordinator wouldn't want to work side by side with somebody else who was just promoted from within the program, but I have no idea -- maybe that would be a plus in some ways. Honest question, though: Regardless of whether a guy was successful or unsuccessful as a HC, does that experience normally help and pay dividends if he becomes a coordinator? I'm sure it varies but a lot of people on this board know way more than I do. Does it matter, is it good, can it create problems, or does it generally just depend on who and what the situation is?
  2. I would shoot myself if somebody like Woodson was hired. Some people just dont understand that coaches coach, players play. Just b/c you were a great player doesnt mean you will be a great coach. I mean, the guy is a f'ing football analyst on tv right now. Hes NOT a coach! I agree with you, but being a tv analyst is a pretty poor argument. Urban Meyer, Bobby Knight, Bill Parcells, Bill Cowher, Tony Dungy, Herm Edwards, there's a million really good to not so good former coaches on tv. Hell.....Steve Kerr? Love where your heads at, we need to be creative and really start thinking outside the box to get this team back to what it was during those years of dominance. It would be a splash hire, yes, and the press would be great -- not to mention he's shown an innate ability to build a scheme around the strengths of his athletes and has created a type of "powerhouse", if you will -- but I don't think he makes that jump quite yet. Even if he saw the Nebraska opening as the next logical step for him career-wise, do we have the money to lure him away from Golden State? I agree that we need to spend top dollar to compete with the top programs in the country, I'm just nervous about his tendency to focus on offense and do the bare minimum on the defensive side of the ball. Draymond has turned into one of the premier defenders in the country, though, so you have to wonder what he could do with guys like the Davis twins. Really excited to see who Riley's got his eye on, GBR
  3. Dabo seems like he has some great qualities as a coach too, it's obvious how much those guys love to play for him. He also lost 7 games in his second year at Clemson. Then won the ACC the next year. Sometimes it takes a little bit for it all to click, hopefully we can keep improving and start to make those kind of strides in the near future. Also, kinda cool to see Keyshawn wearing Husker gear on ESPN 2 last night during the game.
  4. I wish I had half as much time as some of y'all to speculate on busts who have never played in a game before. Jesus haha "Tommy should've started" "Tommy had to have been benched!" "O'Brien was better!" "O'Brien is a bust!" you know what's amazing? if we wait a little bit, we'll find out! It's magical. That's why they play games. I know the high school videos you watch really light a fire in your belly, but maybe you don't know everything? We had a good season, some stuff was disappointing, some stuff was so much fun to watch. We could be like "damn I'm proud of the seniors they fought hard we're not over the hump yet but we're closer and this was an exciting season and let's get 'em next year let's support the team and the school" Or you could just rant to hear yourself speak with some delusion that what you say has any effect at all on the people who actually make decisions regarding everything surrounding the program. We're FANS. We watch FOR FUN. I'd love to be O'Brien and check a message board out on a whim and be like "oh, great. Haven't gotten the chance to take a snap yet, but a poster's friend's facebook friend knows a family who's friend has a kid who plays on special teams who said I've been having difficulty with Cover 2 and now everyone thinks I can't play."
  5. We're gonna get a turnover, play a lights out fourth quarter, and win the game. And Wisconsin will lose tomorrow and we will win the big ten and we will win the rose bowl
  6. Riley is a good coach. He hasn't lost a game he was supposed to win this year, which we've done a ton in the past. One blowout loss is really tough to swallow, but in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't automatically mean he's a terrible coach or we're done at this point in the year. I firmly believe we win out, Wisconsin loses a game, we win a conference championship and head to the Rose Bowl.
  7. Completely agree with both of you. I got the same feeling as a few years ago where we would go 10-4 but give up 63 to Ohio State, 70 to Wisconsin, and 45 to Georgia and it would feel like we were capable of barely gutting out wins against Iowa and Northwestern but get destroyed by the good teams. 59 points is abysmal and a joke and horrifying and makes us a laughing stock. But then again, I don't think it's indicative of our team. Just because Penn State beat OSU doesn't mean they're a better team. They're not, and they lose that game 8 out of 10 times. Northwestern played OSU close, but that doesn't mean they aren't miles behind OSU, which they are. That day, things happened that allowed a tight fought game. Nebraska isn't 59 points worse than OSU. At all. We probably don't win 8 out of 10 times, but I think everyone knows we are a much better team than what we showed tonight, it just spiraled out of control so fast it got absolutely horrifying. I may just be a little more optimistic (and possibly in an ignorant fashion) but I think we're all essentially saying the same thing. But I think we're gonna all it together, win out, and Wisconsin is gonna drop a game when they slip up a bit too much, and we're gonna go to the conference championship and win a title and go to the Rose Bowl.
  8. Totally agree. But don't you think where we are right now compared to last year and considering everything the program has been through including players recruited for different schemes is a huge step forward? I'm just wondering how much we should expect to improve. And I'm not trying to play devil's advocate I'm genuinely asking. From 5-7 and the horrific scene last year where nobody was on board until late, what's a good turnaround? I totally get 62-3 is not it. These guys are paid millions to figure this stuff out. But what is the threshold for us to mark this as a giant leap forward, even with an ugly blip? Cause I'm thinking 5-7 to 10-2 with a great bowl win or a conference championship appearance would be a MASSIVE stride and something to be super hyped about because we're getting closer. What do you think is that mark that says "okay, we're really working towards what we want to be?"
  9. Totally agree with the coordinators. And totally agree that the majority agrees with you and not me, and also agree that our special teams unit is awful and Bruce has completely underperformed or is just in over his head. Pierson-El was so electric two years ago, its insane that we can't cover a punt well enough for him to even get a step. Plus, Bryant got stopped inside the 15 virtually every time tonight, which is incredibly frustrating. It's inexcusable. And I think loyalty is a huge problem for Riley, which so many other posters have pointed out. All I'm saying, and I'm aware this probably isn't the best forum for this, but all I'm saying is that Nebraska is known for being one of if not the classiest program in the country. Incredible fans and people. And I feel like Riley represents that. I personally would feel a bit uncomfortable rooting for somebody like Meyer if he were coaching our squad with his history at Florida, or someone who ran a program that was constantly in the news for scandals or sexual assaults or some other crime-related issue. I don't think Urban or Harbaugh are bad people, and I don't this loss is excusable at all, and I don't think our coordinators are performing the way they should, and I don't think we are where we need to be. And I don't think Riley's perfect and I don't think he's the best coach in the world. But I think what he's navigated through with this team after coming off of a 5-7 season where, before, players like Tommy and Nate and other leaders tweeted about how firing Bo was the biggest mistake the school ever made, and then leading over a hundred guys through the death of a teammate, and choosing to bring people like Brenda Tracy to Nebraska to educate the team, and really embracing the culture, I just think that's a hell of a lot for a head coach like him to do. And then being 7-2 and almost beating a really good Wisconsin team on the road in OT and getting a top 10 ranking and then getting blown out at #6 Ohio State, I just don't think it's that much to hang our heads about. And I'm probably some dumb sensitive millennial haha but it just seems he represents us well and better than most other coaches would in this same scenario. Just thinking out loud
  10. Both. Your move. Pics or GTFO. Wait...nah I'm good. Hahaha. For real though, we're gonna be good and finish strong. GBR!! Good, if you don't destroy Minnesota and Iowa I'll be pissed. Well I don't play for the team haha I just meant I have faith. And the only reason I said I brought up the fact that I was a student was because everyone here has had so much fun on the ride so far, going out after all these wins and believing in the team that it seems like a waste to get super upset about the past. Last year was miserable every saturday and this year so many of us are enjoying a huge improvement and feeling like we're getting way closer, one big loss to a great team doesn't shut the whole school down. We're getting better and closer to where we want to be. Obviously I'm not some student ambassador but you get what I'm saying.

  12. completely agree. just would lead one to believe that you are a current student at Nebraska. Geez, you'd might as well ask to see the guy's long form birth certificate the way you're doing things. nah i couldn't care less. but when he goes on a 500 word rant about how a current student has a better understanding of things than other fans, i can point out that his own login seems to indicate he is not a current student. Wow, okay, then I'm sorry. I didn't mean to come off as self-righteous and I definitely didn't try to indicate I had a better understanding of anything. Most everybody has more history with the program than I do. I never lived through those amazing years, so I didn't ever intend to come off that way. I know I have a very limited perspective. My fault. Just meant to give my two cents as someone here now, didn't mean to come off as arrogant or ignorant.
  13. completely agree. just would lead one to believe that you are a current student at Nebraska. ok well first of all, to your urban meyer jim harbaugh comment, I completely believe 99% of the college football world would agree with you. I'm definitely in the minority there. And I didn't mean to come off as "Mike Riley is my spirit animal," I just meant that Nebraska means a lot to me and it's cool to see a guy genuinely appreciate it as he experiences it after we had a coach who seemed to be more indifferent towards it and act like we were more enemies of the players than supporters. That's all I meant. Didn't mean to be over the top, just meant I like him as a person and think it's a good thing to have. As for the student thing, I'm literally at the school right now haha I don't get on message boards to pretend to be someone else. It's completely irrelevant to this entire thread but I'm a sophomore from Los Angeles.
