  1. I agree that the hit on Sutton was definitely a cheap shot but are you referring to the no call on the punt play as being the second cheap shot? If you are, look at the replay, the BYU player was blocked by a NU player which caused him to slide into the punter. That's why no call was made. It was too bad that it resulted in an injury though regardless of how it happened.
  2. Hey Buffsfan, how did that trip to the islands work out for you? Maybe you should worry about your team. Since your state legalized pot, with the epicenter being in Boulder I believe your days of fielding anything but a JV team is over and done.
  3. Glory...as BYU fans we get this on every board we visit. We (well most of us) don't judge a fan base by a few religious bigots but thank you for your comments. They're true and timly.
  4. Taysom Hill. He is the lynch pin holding that team together. Look at the skid they went on last year when he went down. You're correct. When healthy, Taysom is one of the best QB's in the country, which we saw last year with him starting to appear in the national Heisman discussions after game 4. He would be a huge loss to any team, not just BYU. However, there were a bunch of other injuries last year that exacerbated his loss. Also, last year's backup QB had actually moved on and intended to leave football. The coaches actually had to convince him to return for 2014, as QB depth was poor. This year, though the backups are freshmen, one was a blue chip recruit, and the next two are sons of former NFL players (Merrill Hoge and Koy Detmer). Still a better situation than a guy who had to be begged to not quit football. Out of curiousity, because I'm lazy and don't want to look it up. Did the SR. Hoge and Dettmer attend BYU? Are they both Mormon? Honestly asking out of curiousity how they landed these two kids... Neither are Mormon or played at BYU. How does a Nebraska fan not know what school Koy Detmer went to? Hoge is Mormon. His dad attended Idaho State I believe. Coy Detmers uncle Ty converted while at BYU but I don't believe Coy converted at CU.
  5. which BYU fans have you 'met'? A few people posting on a fan message board behind false names? If that' all you've met that's a great reason to hate them all.
  6. This is a good point 1995. Kellen Huston is now 33ish would be my guess, so he is probably not with the team anymore. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Are you saying it was OK knock someone out 10 years ago and now its frowned upon? Pretty sure he's saying it happened forever ago, and the player involved was already suspended, which has already been stated a dozen times. You're being willfully obtuse. Isn't the conversation about the integrity of the game? Integrity, or lack of it doesn't have an expiration date does it because if it does who sets the date and for how long? I think this suspension talk, either by BYU, NU, or Memphis State is distracting from the game.
  7. Some totally different team beat us badly. Not sure that helps BYU much. I could go find a video of BYU getting trounced, but why bother? Hey Look! Here is you losing....http://www.christiantoday.com/article/mormons.could.be.expelled.from.brigham.young.university.for.losing.faith/51217.htm Ouch.
  8. There's a thread in the politics & religion forum for serious talk about BYU fans' belief in Mormonism. Frankly I've always liked BYU's program. Steve Young is my favorite NFL quarterback of all time, and they've been a lot of fun to watch the last few years. Saying they're a top 15 program is quite a tough stretch, though. I could see top 25, maybe. Steve is one of my favorite BYU qb's and my favorite pro qb as well. Its interesting that when he was asked to tell what he thinks of Taysom Hill he described him as a better version of himself. That's saying something. I just wish Hill had the durability Young had in college.
  9. lol. Here are 19 programs that would come in before BYU in any list. And I'm not including the recent risers like Oregon, Wisconsin, Baylor, and Michigan St. Nebraska Michigan Ohio St Penn St Oklahoma Texas Alabama Auburn LSU Texas A&M Florida Georgia Tennessee Florida St Miami Clemson USC UCLA Notre Dame I'm sure a big reason BYU isn't included is due to religious bigotry. And it has nothing to do with mainly playing in a conference that contained Colorado St, Air Force, SDSU, and Wyoming for the majority of the last 40 years. It should be. Their religion is a joke. Listen to a Mormon really explain what they believe and it's hard to listen without thinking "how are you not laughing at this?" Quite frankly, I could say the same about any religion, but that's beside the point. I'm not sure why BYU's affiliation with Mormonism got brought up in the first place. Because when bigoted fans have nothing better to say they always bring up things they have no knowledge or understanding of. 99% of the Husker fans don't fall into that category unlike some fan bases and I thank you for your class.
  10. Even if Nebraska is a program in transition I'm scared to death of this game for BYU. I'm also scared for the first game of the season but when it's against one of the all-time giants in college football in their stadium my trepidation is elevated. I just never know what to I'll see from either team in the first game.
  11. Sounds like what Jesus would do. You mean Joseph Smith, don't you? What's this crap got to do with the football game? Some fans on both sides need to grow up a lot. Talk football.
  12. I'm sorry the sample of BYU fans (whether from Utah or not) hasn't been very awe inspiring on this board. Please don't judge us all by what a few hosers on a message board says. The greatest percentage of us are very respectful. I hope you'll meet some of them visiting Lincoln Saturday.
  13. I believe this game is going to be a very interesting match-up. (Sorry for not following the suspensions, moral authority, or religious topics going after the first couple of comments). Looking at the two teams there are some important unknowns. How will Riley's first game in his new home go with the players already at NU? Will BYU's defense respond to having the head coach retake the reins like they have when he's worn the DC hat? How does BYU's players match up against NU's betters athletes? And how will Armstrong respond to the blitz packages BYU throws at him? I wish I could look into the future and see the answers because if I could I think I'd become a wealthy man. Since this is the first game of the season, and the game is in Lincoln I think the advantage, although I believe slight, has to be with the Huskers. Taysom Hill is coming off yet another season ending injury and even though from all accounts he is back 100% I think it remains to be see if he is in a game situation. He's a freak athlete but has the injury left a strong mental impression. If not, its going to be fun to watch him again. Our (BYU's) RB situation isn't as good as if Williams was out but we do have some talented RB's to fill in, none of his talent but as a group they'll fill in nicely. Brown will probably be our feature back with Carter and Hine (pronounced Heen-a) is a great athlete (he high jumped over 7 feet in high school). He's been returning kickoffs as well and has been a great weapon in that position. You've already read and heard about our tall receivers. Matthews is a known commodity to us. I wouldn't say he has blazing speed but for his size he moves very well and is a very good possession receiver. Nick Kurtz was a player we all looked forward to see last season but a preseason foot injury kept him sidelined for the season. We haven't been disappointed so far in fall practice but again I believe game experience will show if our anticipation was warranted. We have some 6'4" receivers who are new to the program who have received favorable reviews in camp also and we'll see how they do. I do worry about our receivers against your defensive backfield which I believe will have the speed advantage. If Hill gets time, and if your defense can't control the run well then I like our chances. Again, if I could see the future.... Good luck Huskers and fans. Its too bad that football, something that's fun and exciting, can bring out the worst in some fans from both sides and distract from the competition to come and focus on garbage that means nothing.
  14. Do you think that Riley having played BYU when he coached at Oregon St. gives us a bit of an edge? I'm more concerned that we have healthy players ready for our first game. Every time I open the paper or turn on the news we hear of another player who is out for weeks because of injuries they suffered during practice. Blah! I'm hoping for a Husker win but this is NOT going to be a walk in the park for us. Forgive me as a BYU fan that I'll talk football and not how powerful we are, or about suspensions or anything else but you have an excellent question. Having Riley coaching, because he has faced BYU and coach Mendenhall 3 times may help some but there's also the reverse side to that. BYU has faced Riley coached teams 3 times as well and will have as much of a feeling of how he likes to game plan as he'll know about BYU. One advantage that might be in BYU's favor will be that when he was coaching at Oregon State he had his own recruits playing in his system and had been in it for up to 5 years counting redshirts. He'll be coaching players now that he had no hand in recruiting and he'll be teaching a different system than these players were brought in for. I believe that NU has the advantage in player athleticism, strength, and speed overall. Sometimes that's enough to beat a team but sometimes it isn't about just the athleticism but about the team chemistry, the trust between team mates and coaches and the comfort in knowing and being comfortable in the offense and defense. As a BYU fan, I'd love to say we'll win 35-14 but as a realist I'd say the score is going to be much closer, like 21-17 and I have no idea who will be finishing with a 'W'. I hope both teams play well, and that no player for either team is injured.
  15. There seems to be a lot of Polynesians on the BYU roster. Any reason for this? When Lavell Edwards was coach he started recruiting Polynesians because it was very difficult to get African Americans to come to BYU back then. It's still hard but getting much easier. Polynesians are very strong, big, and athletic so he began to be one of the first college coaches to recruit them heavily. The LDS church is also very strong in the Polynesian community which makes recruiting them to BYU much easier.
