There is conflicting reports on what his exact physical stats are. He is reported at 6'5" maybe 210 lbs in an article in MaxPreps. He is a growing kid, but he looks thin. Regardless, it hasn't effected his performance. 28 td passes on 2800 passing yds, 13 rushing tds, 2 receptions for tds (trick plays). He can scramble and pass on the run. He had only 4 interceptions last season. He was selected as first team athlete on MaxPrep's Junior All American Football team. He is being highly recruited. They won their championship. Yup, the McCaffery DNA rolls on. And his kid brother will be Dylan's backup next year.

Dylan McCaffery will be a senior next year. He's a quarterback and very good. Just what we need. He has a pass efficiency rating of 163.5. The downside is that he's not a big guy. He's either 6'3"/ 170lbs, or 6'5"/ 215 lbs.
  3. Thanks Haspula for your homework. Santa Margarita is in the Trinity league of the Pac 5 division in CA. A division is made up of leagues. And the Pac 5 is the toughest division in CA and the Trinity is the toughest league in the division. A 305 lb avg OL is normal for a Pac 5 team. They have had 390 lb OL's in the Pac 5. (A guy named Mama who plays for USC...he is now down to a svelte 350 lbs.). Santa Margarita was a 3-7 team before Johnny Stanton, 9-3 his sophomore year, 13-2 and state champion his junior year, and 9-3 his senior year when he got injured. They've basically been a 5-5 team since then. He was rated #10 in the nation for dual threat quarterback when he was injured. He has just been named CA 2015 JC Offensive Player of the Year. Barney Cotton and John Garrison are the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for UNLV. You might remember them from Nebraska. That might have influenced JS decision to sign on to UNLV. The head coach was a high school coach name Tony Sanchez.. He just completed his first year in college (3-9) and is trying to build the team from the ground up. It's going to be fun to watch. Johnny Stanton blames himself for his performance at Nebraska. He is a very generous, gracious, and classy guy. In my opinion, I think he was neglected for some reason. We'll see how Nebraska does next year. And it will be interesting to see how Johnny does next year at UNLV.
  4. Congratulations on a great game! This is the best I've ever seen Tommy Armstrong. If he plays like this for now on, then our quarterback problem is solved. Strategy wise, Nebraska played the right kind of game against UCLA. We are a lot bigger than the Bruins. So basically, they got man-handled. Josh Rosen is a terrific one-dimensional quarterback. But flush him out of the pocket, then he's done for.
  5. It takes talent to recognize talent. And also talent to know how to develop talent. Everyone needs some coaching or at least experience to reach their potential, in any field. It seems to me that Johnny Stanton's biggest problem at UN was a lack of conditioning. His first game at Saddleback was terrible. He looked like he hadn't played football in years. But he seemed to have found his rhythm by the third game of the season. I felt he was playing very well there afterwards. He had good accuracy. He knew how to get rid of the ball when he didn't have targets. No interceptions his last 5 games. Saddleback was out classed in the championship. Johnny was sacked 4 times, but he never lost the ball and no interceptions. He did throw for 300+ yds and 2 TD and got away for a 34 yd run. So back to Nebraska. What are we doing to get or keep our quarterback bench in shape while Tommy Armstrong is on the field? While I wish the best for Tommy, the quarterback is a very key and vulnerable position on any team.
  6. "You can believe the bolded, but according to Rivals every USC QB recruit over the last 10 years has been higher ranked than Stanton, except for Jalen Green in 2014 (who was ranked the same as Stanton - #14 Dual QB)." You are forgetting that Johnny Stanton was sidelined with a torn ACL most of his senior year. That he ranked as high as #14 is very good when you take this into consideration. I'm sure if he had not got injured, he would have ranked much higher. He was the driving force that won his high school the state championship in his junior year. Like at Saddleback, Santa Margerita was losing team before Johnny became quarterback and became a losing team again after he got injured. He played in the toughest division (Pac 5) and league (Trinity) in California. USC gets almost all of their quarterbacks from there.
  7. I’ve heard a lot of complaining about the quarterback position at Nebraska the past few years. My sense is that some people almost expect a kid out of high school to be fully formed. And if they don’t perform, then it must be their fault. So do we have a bunch of slacker quarterbacks? I don’t think so. Consider USC for a moment. Yes, they have plenty of problems... But they’ve been solid at the quarterback position for 20 years. Matt Cassel spent his entire career at USC on the bench, yet he was able to enter the NFL after he graduated. And he is still playing (Cowboys). That tells me ‘SC has a very good training program for quarterbacks. As a Californian, I know that Johnny Stanton is an excellent quarterback. He is as good if not better than the quarterbacks USC has recruited the past 20 years. He led his high school to the CA State Championship. And he’s is the reason why Saddleback College made it to the JC State Championship this year. They are basically a 5-5 team without Johnny. His choice of UNLV might be influenced by his experience here. They’re not a very good team, but they’ll need a quarterback next year. I don’t believe he wants to spend any more time on the bench. I think that he was turning to rust at Nebraska. Here’s a link for his stats this year. Click on both passing and rushing. He’s the leading rusher on the team. http://saddleback.prestosports.com/sports/fball/2015-16/bios/stanton_johnny_sn7s?view=gamelog&pos=qb I think he showed good improvement over the season. Consider that Saddleback has a very weak running game. And their one reliable receiver is usually double covered. Also notice no picks in the last 5 games. Johnny Stanton has had some tough breaks in football. But hopefully things will turn around for him. He’s got talent and is a class act. And like everyone else, I wish him the best. As for Nebraska, instead of blaming the players and looking for the next miracle wonder, maybe we should start asking the coaching staff just what are they doing to develop the talent we already have?
