  1. I think the questions most people are asking is: Why did he hire those people in the first place if they weren't championship caliber coaches ? Did we throw the last 2 years away because he hired his friends ? I suspect that he thought Mark Banker deserved a chance with better resources, better players, etc. because Mike knows that Mark is a good coach. It is possible that Mike Riley realized that Nebraska needs a great coach or simply a change to the 3-4 because we aren't recruiting DL that seem to be everywhere in the SEC. While watching those DL during the National Championship game I thought to myself that we don't have guys anywhere near the athletic ability and talent of those DL. I also thought how the hell can we get those guys. I think the answer is that you don't bank on getting those guys and move to a defense like the 3-4 and give your players every chance to be successful due to the uncertainty that it creates in the offensive blocking schemes and the QB. I suspect that Wisconsin runs the 3-4 for that exact reason. Not a lot of Simeon Rice like DE running around in WI and none in NE either. I'm sure that Mark Banker's defense would have been amazing with the Grant W., Adam C., Suh, etc. Was there any DC available in 15 that could have been hired to run the 3-4. I don't know but I trust that Mike Riley will get the job done here in Nebraska. GBR FLHuskerGBR posting style reminds me of 84HuskerLaw's Same person...multiple screen names... multiple IP addresses... There are one or two paid (money) commenters here who it appears have hundreds of screen names here. The worst part about these people is that they are the ultimate betrayers of the Nebraska Football Program. Their loyalty is NOT to the Nebraska Football Program, their loyalty is to the bank accounts of the people who hire them to come here for sole purpose of protecting their money. These paid commenters would gladly destroy the football program... if in meant saving the million dollar paychecks of their bosses. Somebody should conduct a wellness check on this individual.

  3. I'm not sure that hiring a proven DC is grasping at straws. The way I see it based on the style of our best QB and almost nothing behind him, the inexperience, youth, lack of depth on the OL and DL these first two years were going to be like treading water. Even going forward, people are hoping that a bunch of young and inexperienced WRs and RS Freshmen OL are going to be some panacea then I think they are going to be disappointed in 17. In 18, I believe the team will be much better but the schedule is brutal. I think people need to be patient as long as it appears that quality recruiting, development and roster management are taking place. If not, we can rinse and repeat after 18. Then maybe we can get a spread offensive staff and move back to the 4-3. People will be bitching about the team despite the obvious hurdles to that reset. We can just keep doing that forever. I hope that doesn't happen. I believe that Mike Riley is a very good coach and will get the job done. This program has to be built step by step back to the top. I'd suggest that we are patient because in another 10 years I don't believe the name Nebraska will mean much to kids anymore. I'm shocked that the kids today still hold it in high regard which is a credit to how great they have been but I think that clock is ticking.
  4. Thanks.....not many people use the word "whelmed"........I thought you made a mistake but it was I that was mistaken. I've only seen the word used a handful of times. Take care
  5. Serious question............it wasn't clear were you overwhelmed or underwhelmed by the hire
  6. The QB has something to do with it but also the offensive line is a major factor. You mention Auburn. I did a quick google on Auburn's offensive line. In 2016, they had 3 returning starters and according to some football analyst was projected to be the 8th best line in the country. Take a look at their quality depth and upper class experience. Mostly juniors and seniors. They have 17 OL on their roster. 3 walk ons and the rest are scholarship players (entered program on scholarship not walk on earning scholarship). Outside of the two deep list below and 3 walk ons they have 3 - 4* rs fr., a 4* true fr., a 4* jr. Nebraska isn't even close to the quality depth that Auburn has. I think the Nebraska OL is on track but it will take a two more years to have the quality upper class two deep. I don't ever want to study Auburn OL ever again. I think I need a few drinks. Auburn projected 2 deep for 2016 Projected two deep: rivals ranking (stars/position/national) 247 natl comp. Left Tackle Austin Golson (6-foot-5, 314 pounds, junior) 4*/8/118 94 Darius James (6-foot-4, 320 pounds, junior) OR 4*/1/65 34 Robert Leff (6-foot-6, 299 pounds, senior) 3*/70/- 1047 Left Guard Alex Kozan (6-foot-4, 310 pounds, senior) 4*/12/- 386 Marquel Harrell (6-foot-3, 318 pounds, redshirt-freshman) 4*/19/- 230 Center Xavier Dampeer (6-foot-2, 310 pounds, senior) 3*/-/- 195 Austin Golson (6-foot-5, 314 pounds, junior) 4*/8/118 94 Right Guard Braden Smith (6-foot-6, 300 pounds, junior) 3*/3/50 63 Mike Horton (6-foot-4, 331 pounds, redshirt-freshman) 3*/-/- 737 Right Tackle Robert Leff (6-foot-6, 299 pounds, senior) 3*/70/- 1047 Tyler Carr (6-foot-5, 318 pounds, redshirt-freshman) OR 4*/7/81 222 Darius James (6-foot-4, 320 pounds, junior) 4*/1/65 34
  7. This will be a miserable failure. Any investment is this league would be like lighting money on fire.
  8. I think this is analogous to going to watch a football game. Players want people to come watch but don't want fans screaming at them instructions and/or hurling insults. You go to the game with your jersey on and cowbell in hand and cheer. That's it.
  9. I don't do it but there is no problem following a recruit. The recruits actually like the follows. The problem is just following doesn't let the recruit know who is following them. Are these follows from Neb., Michigan, or Ohio St. If Nebraska fans don't tweet anything at the recruits and the Mich and Ohio St fans are tweeting at them the assumption the recruit will draw is Mich and Ohio St fans like, want, and appreciate him more. Probably has an effect on the recruit. I think a good rule for Neb fans would be to tweet at the recruit "#GBR" when they follow and maybe a "welcome aboard: when they commit. That is it. The coaches are letting the recruits know why Nebraska is great, that the fans are great, the program's great history, the fact we need a great RB or whatever in this class. The begging is the worst.
  10. There are quite a few articles floating around from his time at Notre Dame about his recruiting. Here are two for you: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2013/01/03/bcs-national-championship-defensive-coordinator-bob-diaco-notre-dame-alabama/1804929/ http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/on-down-the-line-notre-dame-football/2011/01/notre-dame-having-a-recruiting-run-to-be-remembered.html After reading that USA Today article people should be optimistic about this hire. Good job coach Riley. Banker seemed like a pretty good guy and good luck to him. Welcome aboard Coach Diaco. The additional speed a 3-4 defense brings and the uncertainty it creates in an offense are great benefits. #GBR
  11. His father said he was going to the high school soccer game to watch his girlfriend. This is the most likely reason. The one position that the Huskers couldn't afford to lose a commit and this might be one of two.
