  1. Gates is an overrated punk. A bit of a dirty player and not disciplined, I seem to remember many 3rd downs in '17 where he would hold, of move before the snap Wasn't he recruited by Bo? Yes, we had some great players under Bo, but also ones like Gates. And Gates got schooled in huge games - vs Wisconsin and Ohio State especially. If he can't see how he'll grow and benefit under Frost and staff, then good riddance. And good luck.
  2. No, I would not be OK. Four losses every year. Yes, he won three division titles; which led to two blowouts and one-near miss. All losses characterized by undisciplined play. If Kunalic didn't kick the ball out of bounds vs Texas, we make McCoy go further down the field with very little time left. And the call that put :01 back on the clock in that game was a good one. Big, national stage games led to blowout losses more than close losses or victories. I will give him that he coached his ass off against Clemson and Georgia in those Gator Bowls he won. But, in the end, he padded his record against weaker teams and usually folded - badly - when it mattered. And let's not forget bad losses that should have been wins: 2010 Iowa State at home; (we had more turnovers than points); 2010 CCG vs OU (led by 17 at one point), 2011 Northwestern (unranked and a backup QB beat us at home), 2013 UCLA at home (gave up an 18-pt lead at home), 2014 Wisconsin (led by 14 at one point) and 2014 Minnesota (giving up a 14-pt lead at home AND on SENIOR DAY). 2013 would have had five losses if it weren't for a fluke Hail Mary. And let's not forget about South Dakota St and FCS McNeese St. pushing us to the brink. Yes, he had great comeback wins vs Wisconsin and Ohio St. But overall, his teams were characterized by inconsistency, lack of discipline and lack of being able to finish. And he got outcoached more often than not - especially in big games. Not the pedigree we need to return to being a perennial top 15 program. Let's get Patterson from TCU or Colorado State guy. Maybe Turner Gill if he can get a solid defensive coordinator; a McBride protoge.

  4. We'll probably have to wait until after Iowa for the ax to fall. I hope he's gone before the bowl game.
  5. I too thought the numerals were duct-taped on. I thought this years was the worst of the three. Last year's was my favorite. For MSU, I'd like to see a road version of the '62 throwbacks worn in 2009. Kind of honoring Devaney as he was an assistant at MSU under Duffy Dougherty before he went to Wyoming.
  6. Yeah, I did like the intensity shown by the D last night - and flying to the ball. I was able to watch only the first have on TV. Listened to the 2nd half on the radio.
  7. Our defense will not be of championship caliber until they start creating some turnovers and going plus for once. Couple of near-picks last night, but where is the hitting that causes fumbles? One defensive turnover over three games? So far, I think they prefer the apple kind.
  8. The UP will pull out their neat-o passenger/business cars for this, and they'll be loaded with boosters no doubt. Hopefully the engine will be something cool too. Probably not a steam engine (unless NU lays down some serious caysh), but more than likely something like this or this. For you non-train geeks (that's just about everybody) the first link is one of two running steam engines (to be three in a few years once they get the Big Boy restored to running condition) that the UP operates. The second link is the Centennial 6900 series - the world's largest diesel ever built/ran. The third link is an E9 diesel used in the 1950s and 60s. Warren Buffet and BNSF missed this opportunity. Oh and hey... why doesn't Ersty get a ticket?
  9. My guess is that's the reason for SE's supportive statement: Not enough $$$s in the coffer yet to pull the trigger. AND - no one in the wings to hire quickly. Another year buys Eichorst time to look. That said, Bo really can't lose more that two-three games next year and will probably need to win the division. 2014 has a schedule of about seven teams that could be ranked when we play them: Fresno, Miami, MSU, NW, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa.
