  1. If Stevenson wasn't good enough to get reps against the first 5 opponents, I doubt he puts him in against the #14 rushing defense. Mike Riley, if you are reading my posts... pulling the redshirt off of Jordan was sarcasm!! LOL However, I guess it was the logical progression as outlined in the original post. Twilight zone stuff. I hate to burn his shirt, but I do understand it. We rank 107th in kick return yardage so were trying to boost that. If we want to win this year it may be necessary. Think about how much having DPE helped in the punt return game last year. He sparked the comeback win against Iowa and almost Mich st. DPE didn't really start helping on offense till about mid season last year. Maybe stevenson can help the offense later in the year. Just my two cents.
  2. As far as Wilbon, I thought the coaches said that when he got his off the field issues settled he'd be on the field. Maybe I misunderstood that. Anyway the problem with putting him in just for running plays is opposing teams will pickup on that quick. In other words when Wilbon is in it's a run, then the running game would be less effective.
  3. The 2008 roster had 21 players that either were, or are on NFL rosters, plus Ganz Swift and Peterson.
  4. I think the only way you part ways with Bo is if you open up your check book and get a coach that has proven he can win championships as a head coach. If we let Bo go that would be 3 coaches in 10 years we've run out of town. The next one better be a Grandslam homerun or we're Notre Dame.
  5. Couldn't agree more. I thought that was the most dominate our O-line has looked since 2000. I've got a question for you since you played the O-line. On the plays where Jackson pulls and leads the outside run he was actually behind the RB a couple times. I noticed that when he pulled he would sag a couple yards behind the LOS, where as when the guards pulled they would go right down the LOS. Is this by design or was that an error on his part. Also did he not get out in front of the play fast enough, or did the running back not wait for his blocking? BTW this is not a criticism. Jackson played outstanding.
  6. I heard McBride say either last year or the year before that in todays game you would be doing great to hold a team to 300 yards.
  7. I agree, a two gap system requires your D-lineman to be animals to engage blockers and get off the block as oppose to a 1 gap where you just attack your gap. At least thats how I understand it. I'm really trying to learn this stuff . You don't tend to see alot of 2 gap in the NFL either except for some 3-4 teams.
  8. I thought the same thing during the game. If I were and USM fan I would be a little worried if my new head coach was throwing in the towel when he was down 34-17 in the 3rd qt, and his offense was moving the ball.
  9. RB yes very good, QB is not that good of runner. I watched the UCLA game last thursday night, and there QB runs about like Cody Green. Maybe a half step faster but that's it. Noting like the guy we seen this week, nor Robinson, or Miller.
  10. I think so. The think I noticed is that he didn't follow his blocks real well a couple times. That said it's his first CFB game and I'm sure things were moving pretty fast for him. I think he has a great future, and for a freshman in his first game he averaged almost 6 ypg which is pretty good. Abdullah looks faster to me this year than last, and I think you'll see the same with Cross after a year in the program.
  11. I agree 100%. I like what Bo did with Haag and Gomes. How about SJB to that role? He is a big dude. I saw another person speak of Fish bulked up to a DE with the height. For some reason, at least IMO, Bo will do that with the DB's, but appears reluctant to move any one else. Seems like we need to get faster on the DL. Regardless of schemes shown from MSU we still look slow up front (same as last year) and save David, slow in the LB's last year as well. I was hoping to see more of the younger guys play on the DL and the LB position. When the guys were in a position to make a play they whiffed, arm tackled or over pursued. I hope we saw a lot on film that we can correct. I am worried that the same issues we faced last year, appear to be the same we have seen (at least for me) on Sat. You gotta think as the year goes and the younger guys start to figure it out a little more that they will see the field more. I thought the series that Moss and Curry got to play that they looked pretty stout and didn't get pushed off the LOS as much, but it was late in the game and the USM Oline may have been gased.
  12. The biggest problem I see with this is that most teams run the spread out of 10 and 11 personal (3 and 4 WR sets), so you're in nickel and dime most of the time.
  13. We were back near the 40yd line. What else was there to do? We shot ourselves in the foot during that series. The players know it, coaches know and we know it. Could Henery have made that kick? Perhaps. But second guessing does no good. I do know this though. Our defense was playing absolutely phenomonal the 2nd half. So why not punt and force VaTech to score? And on that particular series, they didn't. They punted. Are you serious? The CU game was a totally different situation. Less than 2 min left in the game. Yesterday we had 4th and goal from the 40, but it was in the 3rd quarter. This thread reminds me why I quit checking message boards last year. This is the first time I've checked this year. Screw it, see you all next year. I am not saying we shouldn't have punted and totally agree. However, I don't think I have ever seen a 4th and goal where a team had to punt. 'Ah ok...I gotcha. I agree...I don't think I've ever seen that situation either. My apologies if I sounded harsh. This board seems to still be in complete nuclear meltdown right now.
  14. polls are a joke, you can't tell me that V-tech is 12 spots better than us.
