  1. not good.... you have to win over the mom. maybe the coaches can talk to her You don't always have to win over the mom, allthough it certainly helps. There comes a time in a young mans lives where he completly starts to make decisions on his own, regardless of how big of a decision it is. I know my parent's had 0 say in where I went. True but being underage a parent does have to sign the Scholarship with the student athlete. If my memory is correct we lost a highly rated QB prospect (name) several years ago to USC because his Mother would not sign and allow him to come to NU. This was before Pete Carrol and when Pete came in and moved him to DB he transferred to UNLV to play for Coach Robinson.
  2. I hope Lucky doesn't leave for the Pro's, but considering he's basically an A-Typical NFL style running back after Callahan's tenure, I'm wondering if pro teams will show him a little more interest. mm depends on which team takes him IMO. Can you imagine him with the Patriots? Doesn't need to carry 30 times to make an impact there. I don't know his background if he needs the money but he did have a stellar year IMO with this NU team. NFL teams will look at his pass recieving as well. IMO he goes PRO. Becomes a late 2nd or 3rd round pick to a team that needs a great contributor not a star.
  3. I think everyone is really looking at the worst case scenario for our recruiting. I think things will turn out much better than most people think. I have read updates from rivals on all those guys and i think we have a great shot at all of them. Hoch i think wants to play for NU and and not just at NU, he had a great relationship with coach Wagner and i dont think he liked the fact that he wasnt retained. However i think once Hoch gets a chance to build a relationship with Barney Cotton him will firm up his committment. Givens might be the most likely out of all these guys to go somewhere else. He is down to NU, Texas, and CU. He will be visting CU this week and then decide before the 1st of the year. He had a visit to Texas a few weeks ago and he said he loved it, so Texas is probably the biggest competition for Givens, but i am a little encouraged because of his relationship with Williams and Compton. Compton is the recruit i am probably least worried about. It seemed like ever since the whole coaching thing happened Compton has been just trying to convince himself that NU was not the best fit for him, and i think he could not fully come to that conclusion, and that is why he is still a NU commit. Blaine Gabbert has been trying to pull Compton over to the Tigers ever since Gabbert committed there, but to no avail so far. Compton had a great visit with Pelini and one of those new coaches from LSU about a week ago and it seemed like Compton was very impressed with with Pelini. I think the fact that we hired a defensive minded coach gives us a huge advantage with Compton. Compton is visiting Missouri this weekend and then has a visit set for Nebraska Jan. 11, He shouldnt be blown away by Mizzou because i am sure he has seen that place before considering it is in-state, so when he comes to NU i think he will decide that is the place for him and solidify his commitment. William was visited by 3 NU coaches(Bo and Carl Pelini, and Marvin Sanders) a few days ago and i think it really set well with him. He even admitted that it would be very hard for a school to top Nebraska, so i think he will end up at NU after it is all said and done. He is visiting CU this weekend with Givens and said he also wants to set up an unofficial visit to NU the same weekend Compton is visiting. So look for Williams to become solid soon after the 1st of the year, if not sooner. -Givens even talked about the possibility of him and Williams being a packaged deal, and Williams is no longer looking at Texas, so that leaves it with CU and NU if these two want to play together. I think we will see Compton become solid after his Missouri visit, then Compton will help pull Williams back on board, and the pull of Williams and Compton i think will help a lot with getting Givens to NU over Texas. So i think there is a great chance to see all four of these gives sign with NU in Feb. and the worst case scenario i think we sign only 2 of the 4, so things are looking pretty good i think. Good post and good information. I'm hoping we retain all of them. Givens would be the icing on the cake for our offensive line and we all know we need Linebackers. Since Givens teammate (Nolan Brewster)is a Texas recruit I'm most worried he will go there. Would be spectacular if their relationship would cause Nolan to renenge on his Texas commitment and decide to come to NU and then Pelini could go after Jon Major! Won't happen but hey I can dream can't I?
  4. I don't think our old Coaches or new Coaches plus Notre Dames or Michigans would of spent the time and effort recruiting him if he wasn't a player. A line of Steinkhuler, Hoch, Robinson and Givens would be a great bonus for NU in the next few years. Micx them with Burkes, Thompson or Henry and you may have a line any Runnigback would love to run behind.
  5. Does anyone else feel the days of NU looking for quick fix Junior College players coming to an end or at least will be greatly decreased? I know the Pellini will need to win immediatedly but I'm also seeing with the rebuilding of the walkon program there will be more scholarships spent on 4th year Juniors and 5th year Seniors. Any thoughts on this?
  6. not a big loss in my book. We need defensive lineman who WANT to play for Nebraska. Any defensive lineman who saw us this year should be licking their lips for a chance to come play at NU. At least one who thinks much of himself can see the opportunity, such as Kuli!
  7. Billy Sims isn't silly at all. He was a damned good player. I was pretty young when he was playing at Oklahoma and I still remember getting this sick feeling in my stomach whenever they handed him the ball. I agree with your Billy Sims statement. He was awesome. More than awesome. He deserves his ranking for sure. Others I can think of..Steve Young over Vince Young anyday. Single handedly led BYU over Michigan and his Pro career proves this right. Dave Rimington and Rich Glover might also be there. Gino Marchetti from the replays I've seen of him was awesome, the 420 man himself wasn't so bad ( Ricky Williams), Archie Grigffin should be higher. _________________________ Someone said earlier that Vince Young could/should be higher on the list than Tommie Frazier because he could pass, but they're apparently forgetting the option-pass to the tight end. I can't tell you how many times Tommie ran that option, stopped behind the impenetrable wall of his O-Line, then calmly threw a 20-yard pass to a tight end alone in the secondary. The TE was alone because they HAD TO bring the safety up to help stop the option, and it was an absolutely beautiful play. Nobody is ever going to mistake Tommie Frazier for a passing QB, but he most certainly could pass when he needed to, and did so with devestating results.
  8. Without that one single play, we do not have a NC in 97. I agree. It kept us alive for the Championship. I also agree with the choices for each decade EXCEPT what about Defense and Special Teams? The team sacks against Miami for the National Championship in 94? Including the sack for the safety. other grea plays the non called fumble by OU when a Nebraska decleated the return man (78 or 79) the grant Wistrom caused fumble and recovery of a OU fumble, where grant crawled like 10 yards for the recovery. Another offensive play I'll never forget was "Sapp gettig Suckered" for the National Championship against Miami.
  9. Good Coach. Left UNM to become Coach at BYU. That was in his contract at UNM...he could only leave for a BYU Coaching contract. You can also say he developed a young small town football player no one had heard of outside of New Mexico into one of the best Linebackers in football..Brian Urlacher. Does well with the talent he gets and knows how to develope talent offensively and defensely. BYU is his dream job and I don't think he'd leave for another school but Money does talk. I would expect BYU to match any reasonable offer and I don't think he commands mega millions. Not the Name Nebraska is looking for, IMO
  10. I can remember two hits by Frost - one as a Husker, one when he was with the Jets - that just absolutely lit up the guy he was blocking. If he could instill that into our Linebackers again, I'm all for it. When he played for the Jets, wasn't he on defense as a safety? Why exactly was he blocking anyone when he played for the Jets? Was it on special teams or something? It's....It's....am....am......because he played here once! GOSH! Like your pic
  11. It was a good post. It explained in detail why Turner would be a good Coach, ESPECIALLY at Nebraska. I put my blinders away many years ago. I also live in a realistic world where my ENTIRE life does not revolve around the Cornhuskers. In saying that I love the Cornhuskers..win or lose but I also enjoy what I have. Turner Gill is the type of football Coach I want to lead my team. Pellini would also be a nice fit. I'd love to have them both back together which I don't really see happening. I also respect Dr. Tom enough to do whats right. I'll let him choose and respect his decision. If you call that blinders than IMO it show sthat your a new comer to Nebraska football and don't really understand what it means to be a Husker. Ask any former Husker athlete of the last 25 years ..Defensive or Offensive what Turner Gill means to them and this program. I'll bet you won't get many complaints about him becoming Head Coach. Besides some of us need blinders so we don't read all the BS spread from people who have their Eyes Wide Shut! Mouth wide open..and Brain in Neutral. IMO Nebraska is LUCKY to have at least 2 fine men wanting, willing and able to lead this team.
  12. It all comes down in how you feel about Tom and his judgement. Tom spent more hours with Turner than his own wife during his Coaching career at Nebraska much less as a player. If he chooses Turner it won't be because he shined during the interview process alone. It will be because he is the same person Tom has known for a long time. IMO Turner is someone who knows Nebraska. Knows how to win. Knows how to recruit. Knows how to run a clean program. AND has the experience around National Champion Teams to understand what it takes to become a Champion. He has been there through all of Toms Nebraska Champion games. As a player and a Coach...that experience should count for something. If Pellini is chosen I feel it would be a good choice as well. BUT how LONG would he stay? If he doesn't have success immediately he is gone. If he does has success immediatedly I think a Pro team will take him. He is a very good Coach, even excellent, but do we want someone for just a few years. People seem to want a NAME Coach. Perhaps we can get John Madden, Barry Switzer, Don Shula, Lou Holtz, LLoyd Carr, or heck why not Jimmy Johnson (hey he is alive) I want someone who will MAKE his name at Nebraska! Will stay here because he wants to, dreams to, desires to. I want someone who EARNS his respect AT Nebraska not somewhere else. Oh heck lets just get Tom back with Turner as his Assistant and some other people none else has ever heard of.
  13. Thats sad. I've never been a fan of CU for sure but your hate seems to be something you should seek help for....you know Dr. Tom might be able to help you....seriously please seek help before you do something really crazy in the name of NU.
  14. Do you make strange phone calls sometimes?
