  1. As a student at UNL, I thought I'd share this email with you folks. It was sent this afternoon by the Athletic Department. It's not as bad as the DN article makes it out to be.
  2. Nebraska is his dream job, and he's already committed himself. Not to mention unfair to the assistant coaches he is expected to bring on, who are also committed. I didn't get the feeling from his introduction that he's that kind of coach. And don't forget the recruits he's out doing damage control with - doesn't help the program any if he flies south for the winter and foreseeable future. Don't worry about the contract. At this point, it's pretty much a pleasantry. Bo Pelini is Nebraska's 28th head coach, for better or for worse.
  3. Players will probably be home on vacation, anyway. Though I may be ignorant.
  4. But won't we break the BCS if we do that?
  5. Johnson does what he can at Navy with what he has. Navy has fairly high academic standards and it's pool of candidate players is not as vast as say, Nebraska.
  6. Seems highly unlikely. Callahan's coaching decisions this season have cost us a post-season game appearance, which brings money into the athletic department. He's far too polarizing of a personality to keep around. A divided fan-base, once again, damages the bottom-line. I don't remember him ever apologizing for his agent's words either. No, Callahan will be asked to leave in the coming days, and I hope that people are respectful towards the man. He is not a terrible person. He just doesn't have the tools to be an HC. He'll make a good OC somewhere, either at the college or pro-level. I wish him and his family the best of luck, and I'm sorry it didn't work out. And Cosgrove will be leaving, yes. He could not adjust his Big 10 mentality to the speed of the Big 12. Clear and simple. I don't know about the other coaches. I wonder if Watson will leave as well, since he and BC are buddies, aren't they? I think it is in the program's long-term interest to clean shop. But we have to be prepared for another lackluster season - if it's true that players gave up this year because of the coaches, who's to say the same won't happen next season, even if only marginally (that is, until the new coach finds out and puts those players out of the position to play until they resolve issues). I do not envy the decision Dr. Osborne has to make. Not one bit.
  7. This is your game fellas. Go out there, and win it for yourselves and Nebraska. I'll be cheering you on, you can bank that. GO BIG RED.
  8. 1) How long have you been a member of Husker Nation? Four years. 2) What/who led you to The Nation? The Navy transplanted my family from Virginia to Nebraska. I got here in time to see the beginning of the Callahan Experiment. 3) Where are you from originally? Virginia, born and raised. 4) Where do you live now? I'm a UNL student, and I live on campus. 5) Favorite Husker memory? My first Husker game - Louisiana Tech, 2006. 6) Worst Husker memory? The recent turmoil and strife... 7) Number of home games attended? Less than 20... 8) Number of away games attended? None so far...But Kansas 2007 will be my first. 9) Favorite Husker memorabilia/apparel? My Nebraska hat. It's been places (Puerto Rico, Cimmaron New Mexico, Virginia, Memorial Stadium...) 10) Favorite place to watch a Husker game? (section in Memorial, bar, friends house etc.) Section 12. 11) Favorite all time player? I haven't been around long enough. 12) WCO or Option? An offense that works. More important is a defense that works. 13) Stevie Pederson or Billy Byrne? At this point, I'm going to have to say...Tom Osborne? 14) Lil Red or Herbie Husker? Herbie, hands down. Lil Red looks just plain silly. 15) Favorite Husker play? Lately, it's been anything that results in positive results for the Nebraska Cornhuskers...Positive yards on Offense, Negative yards on Defense. 16) Favorite game-day beverage? Under 21, and the water is too expensive. I wait out the four hour game and then hit Selleck. 17) How did you find HuskerBoard? (referral source) My dad actually found the board...Mention a few of the more interesting rumor threads. I didn't grow up praising Bob Devaney or Tom Osborne. I'm not well-versed in the traditions. But I'm learning. And hopefully any little ones I have will have the honor of growing up in Nebraska Red.
