Be Careful. Kent State MAC btw.
  2. MOST of them are like that I would say I do not fail to understand much about this. Western Michigan almost pulled off a win at home agaist Central Michigan, we beat them 52-7 with our backups in the whole 4th quarter. We were a few tiers above both schools. Sorry, we were. If Western had come down, they woulda taken the whuppin instead, proabbaly worse, as Central Michigan is BETTER than Western (look at their records against like opponents, in conference, head to head, overall). I am saying if Nebraska can compete with us, they can surely beat Western. That is not narrow. That is just true. Not sure how I am being narrow and unfair, I guess I robbed Western of the big win over Temple, did not know then went to the MAC. I do not see me making generic statements, and I support each one with examples. Congrats on almost beating Central Michigan, I did in fact know it was a close game, and what data do you have to show me? It seems I cannot get anyone who is dismissing me and for that matter other jayhawks to address my actual points, except that maybe you almost beat the Chippewas, which would have been a huge accomplishment had you pulled it off, which really is my point... Your not very good. You are not awful, you are not Northern Rhode Island School for Cosmetics, but a decent Nebraska team should take you out in to Memorial Stadium, politely shake your hand, and beat the living snot out of you. They will be a little off, and win by 14. But you will feel the pain and won't upset them. THat is, if Nebraska is good, or even just average (or bad, by Nebraska standards)... I guess my point is that Central Michigan wasn't very good last year despite being MAC Champs. Western Michigan wasn't very good last year as our record indicated but I wouldn't take that as an indication that our squad won't be good this year. We lost to some good teams and in some tough games to get that 5-7 record. This season Western will be vastly better than Central was last season. The MAC was awful in 2007 but is poised to rebound for a strong 2008. If your perspective on the MAC is based on the best Kansas team ever beating the worst MAC champion ever you are going to be missing the boat on what the reality of MAC football is. The 2008 Western Michigan Broncos are an upper division team in a stronger MAC with 18 starters returning playing a Nebraska team that is an unknown comodity on defense. There is good reason to take this game seriously, and not take an overly simplistic view of a team based on a common opponent from a common opponent from a season ago.
  3. Interesting article about Londen Fryar who is Irving Fryar's son in todays Kalamazoo Gazette. I think you guys might enjoy it. http://www.mlive.com/broncos/index.ssf/200...seeing_red.html Sounds like Irving isn't too happy with the old coach.
  4. I truly wish Western Michigan all the luck in the world this year...after the Nebraska game. If they do well, then it looks good for Nebraska. So after the Nebraska game, I will be kind of a WM fan myself sort of, kind of. I like any team that beats Iowa...except when they play Nebraska...after which I may or may not like them again....but, frankly, after this weekend, I probably won't give them a second thought. You'll probably think more about Western Michigan than I will about Iowa State
  5. It is definitly a measure of respect. Immitation is after all the highest form of flatery.
  6. This Kansas fan is making a comparison based on having a very narrow understanding of what he is talking about. Central Michigan beat Western Michigan last year on a controversial call with 14 seconds left. It was a tough game for us to deal with and still hard to admit they were/are better. So let me tear their 07 team down a little bit. CMU lost 6 games. They lost at home by 30 points to a FCS North Dakota State team. Clemson scored 70 points on them...70, and the didn't even beat a decent team in the MACC. They beat a 6-7 team. WMU won 3 games in the MAC last year not 2, and 3 games were lost on the last drive 2 on the last play. Tell me if you have ever seen anything like this before: We ended up with a 5-7 team that failed to meat its expectations as pre season MAC favorites coming off of a season in which we went to a bowl game. CMU ended up wining a MAC title with an 8-6 record making them one of the most suspect champions in recent memory. Now I'm not saying that WMU is going to win the MAC this year, but I would be willing to bet with all the experienced players returning, and a far more manigible schedule that WMU is going to be a tougher opponent or at least equivalent to CMU in 07. So while Kansas can say they beat the 2007 MAC Champion to defend their pathetic OOC schedule it should be noted that there were no good MAC wins last year. It was a down year for the conference. This year the conference should be much stronger and WMU should rebound from last years 5-7 record and make a bowl game. Nebraska won't have to be embarassed to have played WMU in the final analysis.
  7. College Football season is the begining of a wonderful season of excitement and entertainment. My birthday is a day where I get a cake at work, have a nice steak for dinner, and get a few gift cards to compensate for the reminder that I am getting older by the day. I'll take the start of college football season over everything except the opening Thursday of the NCAA tournament, and the inauguration of whoever the next president is.
  8. I'll be at the game taking in all the sights and sounds of a classic college football (upset) Saturday. I will feel a little bad though after hearing about all the big plans everyone has and knowing that all those days will be ruined
  9. There is one thing you neglected in your well put together retort... The Bronco's are going to play an angry, highly motivated football team with something to prove. They've got a chip on their shoulder from last year, and I think that's going to lead to my aforementioned 28-10 prediction... I don't disagree that Nebraska will be better coached, more motivated, etc... I just take exception to this notion that the D has gotten so much better through intangibles that they can hold our experienced and fairly prolific offense to just 10 points. The Broncos have alot to prove this year as well, and our upperclassmen have experience playing and winning a few tough road games at BCS stadiums. My primary concern for us in this game is holding the Huskers prolific offense in check early so that we aren't trying to play from behind all day. The ability to score points on the Nebraska defense is farther down my (lengthy) list of concerns.
  10. Aside from that last one and the horse creating the rainbow (wtf) those aren't too bad. What about your coach looking like the bad guy from Fargo? I assume that has been pointed out before.
  11. That is what I loved the most about the glory years. Watching the systematic destruction of the opponent until by the 4th qtr we owned them and their will to survive had been broken. Stop man, i'm gettin misty over here.... To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women \m/ You know that with each play the opponent is whimpering like a scared little puppy that is getting its nose rubbed where it just peed You know I appreciate the passion of you Husker fans...but this notion that Nebraska is going to physically pound our offense into submission is not based on the current reality. We have an upper level MAC offense. A dynamic passing game and a skilled running back. Our TE is excellent as well. We have a defense loaded with experienced upper classmen, and a secondary that is very very good and not by MAC standards but by anyones standard. I expect our guys to be playing in a very tough place against a very motivated and talented team. But I would be shocked if we were blown out. The last two seasons WMU won @Virginia and @Iowa, and guys right now I don't see a defense at Nebraska as good as those two teams. We are breaking in a new kicker and I think Ganz and Lucky are just outstanding so I can't realistically see us winning. I predict a tough game with both teams being able to move the ball well into the 4th quarter with Nebraska winning on its home turf 38-28
  12. Not when I don't have a ticket to the game. Actually you have good seats, wish I could land something like that. Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that behind the visiting teams band if they bring one? Probably. No worries there. The budget is pretty tight and from what I understand we aren't going to be able to afford to bring the band many places this season. Thanks for the info guys I appreciate it. Looking forward to this game more than any in a while. Can't wait to see the "sea of red." What? No Kalamazoo Marching Kazoos??? My whole day is ruined I can guarantee that if you were fortunate enough to see the Bronco Marching Band in action your game day experience would be enhanced. Whatever you might infer about the quality of our football program based on our low national profile is one thing, but don't think for a moment that it carries over to our entire University.

  14. I finally got my tix for the 8/30 game, and having never been to your fine stadium I was wondering if we are going to have a decent view of the game. Gate 4 Sec. 21 Row 15 Seems relatively close to the field. Any thoughts?
  15. I might do some trolling if we win on 8/30. I won't be able to help it I'm sorry. It would be a pretty big deal for Western Michigan Football. I hope you guys understand.
