  1. Living in Minnesota, close to the Wisconsin border, I have realized that in general badger football takes a very big back seat to the Packers. Now I know some big badgers fans with a lot of class but in my experience I have come across many more badger fans that I would consider band wagon fans that treat college football more like just entertainment on a Saturday morning. If it doesn't work out Saturday they say "o well we still have the packers tomorrow" but if they win they like to rub it in. This culture is very different than Nebraska football because college football is a way of life in Nebraska. I am starting to believe that if you have another team to fall back on, you are more likely to trash talk and treat opposing fans disrespectfully and unfortunately this the the experience I have had most over the past week. Too bad this isn't true for Iowa fans, I guess they just have a chip on their shoulder cause they have to live in Iowa.
  2. Having poise and making the right reads are meaningless if you can't actually get the ball to the wide receiver. Cody does NOT have the accuracy to be a consistent quarterback. I don't care how great his footwork is. I don't care how great his attitude is. You have to be accurate to be a good quarterback, and Cody isn't. The point is no one is accurate on this offense, but Cody is the guy that is willing to work his a$$ off to be more accurate next year and he has actually shown promise. I know right now he is not as accurate but my point is who is accurate on this team? answer: no one!
  3. Totally agree, Cody progressed this season as Taylor regressed. Bottom line Cody will help us win, yeah we may not blow out a team with 70 yard QB runs but I'd rather have a quarterback that can keep his poise and make his reads to win that close game than a quarterback that rips it up against poor defenses and crumbles under pressure.
  4. The biggest change needed may be mental, lets hope the offense can man up and grow a pair of nuts and hold each other accountable for missing blocks, dropping balls, and fumbling. Hopefully this could create a mindset of toughness and excellence without excuses like the glory days.
  5. Sadly I honestly don't see a ton of changes. Bo always preaches execution and pins poor performances on a lack of execution IMO I think he is more concerned with that than with the scheme. I hope to see some screen passes and hopefully we can find a wide receiver that can make plays to take the pressure off our running game.
  6. Cody Green has shown more consistency than Martinez, I think Martinez was the most inconsistent player in all of college football he went from Heisman long shot to being benched several times. I think Bo likes Cody a hell of a lot more than Martinez and I think if he can grow the balls to get rid of Watson we will see Green as the starter next year That's the funniest thing I have seen all year, Bo is the only reason Cody Green isn't our quarterback right now. Did you watch the A&M game? and Why was Green's redshirt pulled and not Martinez's last year? Yes Bo may think Martinez is the better athlete but I obviously wasn't just talking about physical ability. I know Bo is getting fed up with his attitude and lack of leadership and I feel like Bo will realize over the off season that physical ability is not the only thing to evaluate at the quarterback position and we see Green as the starter next year. You honestly think Bo likes coaching Martinez over Green?. I also do not know how much pull Watson had as to who the starter would be, I know Bo has the final say but the decision may have largely been made according to Watson's evaluations and influence. Yep, sure did. I watched our starting quarterback violate team rules, get ripped by our coach, mouth back at him and still come back and limp around the field in the 2nd half when the OC wanted to put Cody in. I also watched the CCG, when an obviously rattled and gimpy Taylor was left out on the field when the OC wanted to put Cody in. Cody's redshirt was pulled because he'd actually been in Spring ball working as a QB, and we had a QB leave the team and tear his ACL twice before the season. Taylor didn't have his redshirt pulled because he was on the scout team last year, although there were a few times that it was strongly considered last year. Bo doesn't coach the offense, he runs the defense. He does meddle in the offense which IMO has cost Nebraska several games over the past two years. The decsion was made because Bo likes what Taylor did in the running game. This offseason, will make or break Bo Pelini's career at Nebraska IMO. How do you know for sure Watson wanted to pull Martinez? I have not heard that before, if that is the case maybe Bo is more of the problem than Watson

  8. Cody Green has shown more consistency than Martinez, I think Martinez was the most inconsistent player in all of college football he went from Heisman long shot to being benched several times. I think Bo likes Cody a hell of a lot more than Martinez and I think if he can grow the balls to get rid of Watson we will see Green as the starter next year I respectfully disagree. Aside from the SDSU game, Martinez showed great consistency until he was injured. Please give me an instance where Green has been consistent for a time period longer than a single drive; show me some stats. Martinez has had monster games when 100% healthy. People just seem to thrown that fact out of the window. Green on the other had has never lived up the 4 star hype the followed him to Lincoln. I honestly do not believe that Green or Martinez will be the starter at the end of next year, UNLESS we get a QB coach who can actually develop a QB. What do you think about the way Cody Green handled the Colorado game? I am not trying to start a big argument but we all know Oklahoma State's defense is awful and that even I could have thrown for a bunch of touchdowns. I do not think Martinez can be 100% healthy for an entire year and I think the juice is not worth the squeezin as they say on 1620. There is no doubt that Martinez has the bigger upside but I have a hard time believing that he is willing to put the amount of work in needed at quarterback and that he would be the most consistent quarterback next year.
  9. I have seen a lot of debate on this issue on the board. What do you guys think?
  10. All due respect, Cody's gotten to start 4 games here, which is way, WAY more of a chance than most QBs who come to Nebraska ever get. That's true. 2 of those games were in his supposed-to-be redshirt year. It is worse for Cody that he had to start them than it is a credit that he got to. He shouldn't have played last year, period. He was thrown into a tough situation, and yanked quickly. Early on this year, it was the same thing with his 2nd quarter playing time. And his final two starts? After injury, he became starter by default. And was yanked the next game, despite Taylor not having healed up, because Taylor was 'The Man.' Got some time in A&M, but Taylor was sent back in as 'The Man.' Got the CU game - Taylor was suspended - and as soon as that was done Taylor was 'The Man' once more. Cody got to flirt briefly with being 'The Man' last year when he shouldn't have, and never came close to it again. It couldn't be more clear that Taylor is far and away the top guy here right now, and it is because of the new offense's direction more than anything that I say Cody won't get a shot. This year he was always the substitute we had to go to without other options, nothing more. Blackshirtsguru, I have no info on this, I am just saying it seems like the offense is moving on in a direction that will continue to leave Cody behind, so I think he should try his shot elsewhere. I think if he works hard and lands in the right situation, he could make something of it. Do you think Martinez is far and away the "man" or do you think that is what the coaches think? I have an extremely hard time putting my eggs in Martinez's basket next year because of the way he fumbles every other play and how he cannot sustain long drives. He is only good for those 40-70 yard touchdown runs that only happen against BS defenses. It was obvious that when we faced a legit defense this year Martinez was horrible and don't use injuries as an excuse.

  12. Yeah he might of struggled a few times this year but look at the situations he was brought in. In spite of the job the coaches did with Cody this year he still found a way to progress, unlike the rest of the offense.
  13. Cody Green is the leader we will need next year. We need a leader that is ready to roll up their sleeves and start kickin some a$$ and motivating teammates in order to compete in the Big Ten next year. There was a thread about accountability on the board earlier and Green defines accountability. He has always been willing to talk with the media even after disappointing losses when other players seem to shy away. He doesn't point fingers or make excuses and knows what it takes to be a leader. At quarterback you need the guy that is willing to put those extra hours in film study and preparation and I think Cody is a guy the offense can rally around next year. I think he has gained enough experience over the past two years to be a confident starter and I don't want to relive another season with a freshman quarterback without leadership skills. I hope Bo gives Cody a chance next year and uses Martinez's talent in a different way because he is too explosive to keep off the field.
