  1. Here's the dilemma.... I always wear red shirt/red hat on opening day. HOWEVER, I always wear Blackshirt gear the next game following the shorts being awarded. Tomorrow is both. As the rest of my fellow, superstitious weirdos understand - The shirt I decide to go with could very well alter the outcome of the game.... Little help, HB? (While the topic is at hand... I'd like to hear some of the Husker-related superstitions/rituals/routines the rest of you HB'ers have)
  2. "I love it here," Pelini said. "I've said this before: This is not a steppingstone job. This is a destination. I enjoy what I'm doing here, I love who I'm working with, I love who I'm working for. I'm not looking for another job. I'm committed to winning a championship here. I'm passionate about winning a championship here." This makes me so happy to hear. I know there are a lot of people who aren't huge fans of Bo, but I think he's done a great job at starting to right the ship. I'm excited to see where he takes our program over the next few years. He'll get our program back to the level of prestige we used to enjoy (SOON). Patience, everyone!! GBR!!!
  3. I kind of just skimmed over the thread, so I don't know how many times this has been said, but I'm just really glad Crick is still getting his shot. Obviously, I was super bummed when we he went out since it was his senior year and his Husker days were done, but I felt really bad and worried for him and his potential NFL future. Who knows if he'll be able to perform at the level he used to, but I'm pumped that he's recovered enough to get a shot. GBR
  4. Thank you for the info. Any one know if the University will still tell us where the team is staying?
  5. Hey everyone, I know it's a long way off yet, but figured I'd ask y'all for some help early. I live in Los Angeles, so dad and I are trying to get to the game Vs. UCLA. I was wondering if any one knew when tickets might be going on sale. When my parents took me to games when I was younger, I remember them calling the University for tickets (even though we live in CA). Does this sound correct? We also used to stay at the same hotel as the team whenever we travelled to games. Is this info that the university still gives? We only live about 20 minutes from the Rose Bowl, but I want to try to make a weekend out of it for my dad, old time's sake and what not. Any help y'all can provide would be much appreciated.. dates, who to contact, phone numbers, etc.. Just not sure where to begin making sure this thing happens.. Thank you, see everyone in Pasadena! Go Big Red!
  6. I have seen a lot of you guys say "pictures or it didn't happen"... I didn't get a picture, unfortunately, but this just made my year... I just got my brand new Husker hat in the mail, so I threw it on before I ran out to the grocery store. I get into line behind an old man who tells me "nice hat", and proceeds to tell me that he went to Nebraska. We got into conversation about what part of Nebraska our families are from, how we came to live in Los Angeles, etc. After a few minutes of conversation, he tells me to hold my hand out, which I did. He then places in my hand a 1971 National Championship ring, engraved with "13-0", "Big 8 Champions", and "#42 Sloey". I was like a little kid who just met Santa Clause or something. Not only was I pumped to meet a former Husker (which has always been amazing for me, on the rare occasion it has happened), but to actually hold in my hand a 1971 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP RING was just one of the coolest things ever. I know running into former players, or seeing a part of Husker History is probably not out of the norm for those of you in/around Nebraska. But to have an encounter like this in the express check-out at Vons in a suburb of Los Angeles was just AMAZING for me! Sorry, I'm rambling a bit -- I'm just still super pumped about the whole incident. Anyway, just thought I'd share! Merry Christmas Everyone! (BTW, Super Nice guy) GBR
  7. Ok..... We obviously have a lot to work on, and a long way to go before we are a top tier contender again. However, before we can even DISCUSS stepping up to that next level, these fundamental issues have to be looked at. The thing about it that's bothering me so much the past couple of weeks, is that (to the best of my memory), these have been issues since Bo took over. Don't take this as a "Bo needs to be fired" thread, that's not what I'm getting at. I just don't understand how these simple, simple things can continuously be so atrocious. Today's game certainly highlighted it, but our Special Teams play has been, IMO, has been the worst part of our game by far (dare I say some of the worst ST play in the country). We hold our collective breath in our house everytime we kick off. I can't believe that it is a talent issue, we have plenty of good atheletes on this team. Honest question, can any one here identify where the break down is occuring? There has to be a fundamental issue with the way we approach Special Teams for it to be consitantly bad. There are a couple of things I will roll into ball security - Fumbles and Drops. Again, this is not a 'fire Pelini' thread, but I have to imagine that a good portion of this issue starts with the coaching? I find it inexcusable to have this many fumbles and dropped passes on a week-to-week basis at the DIV-I level. The bulk of a reciever's job description is catching passes. Why is it that our entire recieving corps. has such an issue with this? Martinez is finally putting the majority of his throws on target, and we've got balls hitting our recievers in the hands that aren't being caught. I know this goes without being said, but there is no chance at getting back to where we want to be with out this being addressed. Did any one keep a tab on fumbles today? Better yet, does anyone have a running tab for fumbles on the season? I almost EXPECT a fumble now. Other than Burkhead, I've lost all confidence in our guy's ability to hold on to the ball. I'll ask again, because I truely don't know the answer; Do you think this is a problem with coaching? Or is ball security something that should be built in to a player's skill-set when they enter the program? Biggest thing though, is how does it get fixed, because I've NEVER seen (or heard of, for that matter) a team that coughs up the ball like we do. Last, but not least, is this penalty issue. I think it's improved over the past couple of years, but it still amazes me how much we get penalized. This was definitely not a problem I thought we'd encounter with this coaching staff. I didn't expect to see such a lack of discipline, it was something that I assumed would be there, given the nature of our staff. Though it was a questionable call, that special teams penalty totally took the guts out of any comeback possibilty late in the game. To me, there is nothing more frustrating than these drive-killing penalties. I don't know, fellas.... Clearly we're not at the level we want to be, There isn't a doubt in my mind that we will, eventually, get back to where we want to be. However, we have to agree that it CAN'T HAPPEN with out resolving these key issues. So, what's burning on my mind, is HOW DOES IT GET FIXED?! KEEP THE FAITH! THERE'S LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL GUYS!!!! GO BIG RED!!!!
  8. You can't expect for a team to win EVERY home game, just because it's at home. That just doesn't happen. Yes, we shouldn't be losing to a team like Northwestern at home (or on the road for that matter), but losses happen. We've been in the Top 25 (with a lot of that time hanging around the top 10) and playing for conference championships - I wouldn't exactly call is Irrelevant.
  9. Granted, some of these would be 'spectacular' catches, but look at it this way.... If the receiver dove, switched directions mid-air, did a somersault, etc., hey - the spectacular part is out of the way. The spectacular part about those catches is getting your hands in position, not the actual hauling in of the pass. Once you're in that proper position, it's nothing but securing your hands around the ball. We have the same rule in baseball --- Dive to it, Slide to it, Backhand it, etc., if it hits your glove, it should be caught. The difference is you're not doing them at two seperate times, while you're diving, twisting, etc, you're doing that at the same time as trying to secure the ball. Big, big difference in trying to catch a football with your hands or a baseball in a glove. Naw, I know. Wasn't saying that catching a football was EXACTLY the same as catching a baseball... Just the principle of your hands (or glove) being in the direct path of the ball, should be enough for any of these guys to make the catch. Maybe not at the High School/JC/Lower divisions, but these are receivers playing Big-Time College football at a MAJOR Division-I college... I don't expect for them to catch them all, but I do expect a little more out of them than what we've been seeing,

  11. I disagree... I think he lost the ROOM to show you his speed due to how weak our O-Line has been.
  12. What really just frustrates the hell outta me, is that the Inaugural B1G Championship game is, more than likely, going to be Michigan State v. Penn State... Don't you all just love it when the conference championship game is played between two teams that you've already beat that season? I know I love it....
  13. Not saying people should or shouldn't have worn red. I'm just saying I wasn't sure if it was going to have that big of an impact. But I agree, no football game is worth putting yourself in danger And tschu, there ended up being more than the first few shots showed
  14. I mean.... COME ON! Seriously? This is what we came up with? Nebraska v. Iowa will play in "Farmageddon" *cringe* each year, to see who will have the honor of taking home... A bowl of corn... A bowl of corn.... Quite possibly theeeeeeee worst Rivalry game trophy out there. This is the kind of thing that happens when you attempt to FORCE a rivalry.. I mean, how about just don't have a trophy at this point. I see that as a better option than fighting over a BOWL OF CORN I suppose it IS better than the Corn Weiner design...
