So I'm Watching the Northwestern/Penn St Game

Branno

All-Conference
And the ESPN announcers make the claim that the 2 best teams in the B1G are ineligible. Those 2 teams being Penn St (because they managed to beat Northwestern I guess) and Ohio St (which is understandable).

Mentioning teams that could give Penn St trouble they don't mention Nebraska (at Memorial).

They did go and say the next best team after Penn St and Ohio St is "Nebraska I guess"

I don't know who the announcers are, I slept in today and started watching after half time. But REALLY?

It's cool that Penn State is winning, but we really need some B1G teams to give them a beatdown. Can you imagine if they are at the top of the division come season end? The media will destroy the B1G with the claims of how weak it is.

I heard this too and laughed. Yet when we win tonight We will take that title. Penn st also would be 5-1 if they had a kicker who could make a fg.

This is the same Penn St. that lost to Ohio (they're OK but still in the MAC) and a Virginia team that hasn't beaten another FCS team. Before today, Penn St's three wins came against teams that had exactly one win against FCS opponents.

I'm sold.

That's the thing I don't quite get. If it was a Penn St broadcast I'd understand, but this is a national broadcast... why are they so sold on Penn St after wins against middling teams?

My guess is that the announcing crew is playing the sympathy card and that's why they are 11am crew..... Amateurs.

Nobody thought they would even come close to a winning record. Now they are 4-2, probably finishing 5-7 or 6-6 at best looking at there schedule.

Right now outside of tOSU nobody looks like a real contender.

Even tOSU doesn't look all that impressive. You take Braxton out of the equation, they are in BIG trouble. The BIG10 just doesn't look impressive at all. Maybe Ohio St or NEB comes out and starts to have consistent success.

I was in the middle of runza making and heard the same thing. I could've chopped the end of my finger off as I was shredding cabbage. Of course the wife got an earful...... I don't know if there is still some lack of acceptance of Nebraska in the Big Ten, but it really makes me hope that we absolutely curb stomp OSU in front of their home fans and a national audience.

They must've whatched the Wisconsin game. Wiscy is garbage, people.

Wiscy just looks unprepared and lacking focus like NEB was looking during the 1st half last week. Wiscy needs to get their heads out of their asses.

If Northwestern had won, we'd be hearing about they just might be a dark horse candidate to win the NC. They just make extreme predictions immediately after something happens. When their prognostications fall through soon after, they just take the opposite extreme viewpoint. (And they're not alone in that practice.)

Kinda like Linsanity. Guy has an incredible two to three week run, and suddenly he's the next all time NBA legend. Nothing against him, but I thought that was so funny as well as indicative of sports media today. Take this insanely small sample size and deduce sweeping conclusions from it.

Don't get mad over the hyperbole formula! :) Just recognize it for what it is: Inane jabbering to fill air time.

Give Penn St. and O'Brien credit for figuring out how to handle Northwesterns offense. Northwestern looked unfocused out there and their defense has been untested to me. Good win for Penn St. Not too hyped on them though.

Also, Bennett/Rittenberg wrote on their blog this week that Penn State is playing the best football in the Big Ten.

Expect them to top their power rankings next week, lol
