Do you think we could have put more points against Michigan?

Ok, I think we have one of the best offenses in the nation. I completely understand turnovers are an issue, and from these last two games, its been taken care of better than before. Taylor had a very questionable fumble against Michigan, which personally, I am one to believe he was down, but video evidence didn't prove either. He did have a pick, that should have been caught, but it is what it is. Northwestern, we only had one offensive turnover by Reed. Two were from Special Teams.

I would like to know what HB thinks, as of RIGHT now, do you think we have one of the best offenses. Top 10 I would consider.

Another topic that seems to be going around here, is our offensive performance against the #10 rush defense in the nation (at least they were). Some believe we slowed down on offense when Robinson went out, and played smart, conservative, and try to decrease chances of an injury. Some others believe we played 100% all throughout and there would be no chance we could have put more yards/points up.

I would change "I want to say yes, but I want to wait another game" to "I want to say yes, but we're too sloppy and inconsistent".

There's no doubt we have a potent offense with many exceptional players at the skill levels. If we could put it all together and keep from making dumb mistakes or turning the ball over, we would be without a doubt one of the nation's most dangerous offenses.

That would be categorized as a no lol. The turnovers, offensively are getting better. 2 in two games, with 1 very questionable one. Its obviously an object they coaches are stressing on.

haha, nice poll. grasping Nick. even I voted yes on the points. if we hadn't turned the ball before half we're up 10-6 likely. turn the ball over to start the half after reaching the 50. maybe another 3 there. turner loses it in the lights. there's another 4. add it all up, and yes we could have scored more points. but we didn't. we didn't take advantage. hense why if you answer yes to the second one, you likely shouldn't be answering yes to the first. on the bright side...these sort of things were in short supply. in prior weeks (ucla, northwestern, ohio state, wisconsin) they were the dominant offensive theme.

you should add the question: "can an offense that ranks dead last or near dead last in almost every turnover category be considered one of the best in the nation?"

 
No, we're not even close to one of the best offenses. It's because of turnovers and penalties. Name one top 10 offenses that handles the football like a hot potato. Our offense is inconsistent because they can't hang onto the ball or they commit a stupid penalty. It's almost become commonplace for when we get into third and short situations we commit a penalty.

On the points, sure we could had three more points. We were in fieldgoal range when we knelt on the ball to end the game.

The points against Michigan was mentioned by quite a few other people on here, and that is why I wanted to add that. There are a lot of silent lurkers around here, that don't speak, and this is one way to get them to participate their opinion, without them really knowing, at least I would like to think ;)

As I have said before, turnovers are a huge issue, or at least was, hard to tell right now, but next game will either prove me wrong or right. I am not afraid to admit when I am wrong lol. I thought PSU was the best team in the B1G, but after last week, I ended up swallowing my own words. We have been a lot more responsible with the turnovers in these last two games (offense wise) and I think it will continue. We have left a lot of points on the field that we should have gotten, but ball security wasn't a strongpoint. Its scary to think, we will even be better next year. Wullenwaber (sp?) will be healthy, and even Bell and Turner said he is (or was) the fastest kid on the team, with a couple standout freshman likely too see the field too.

We certainly should be. I don't expect to see Wullenwaber on the field much though. Not next year. Any other period of Husker football and the kid would likely be seeing time if he's that fast (Davie is fast and you don't see him playing though). Bell, Turner, Enunwa, Allen (assuming rehabbed), Moore, Westerkamp....just too deep. They need to teach this kid how to catch punts and make him a specialist. I'd rather not see Abdulla back there returning. He's too important on the other 60 offensive plays to be out there for those 6-8 a game. And he's gun-shy now - if he's just going to catch the ball (sometimes) he might as well be on the sidelines.

At the end of the day, the offensive line will dictate the success of this offense next year. We have skill position players everywhere. Every position is stacked. Will we have the TE/OL to block for them though? How big of an impact will losing Choi, Justin Jackson, Ben Cotton Cotton, Kyler Reed be. Ben's an asset, Choi's playing well, Jackson as well. Left guard has me worried when Pensick slides back over to center next year. Really wish Moore was still here. Bigger loss than any other transfer in the last few years IMO.

(lets not even go into the defense where we lose 8 of 11 starters). The offense will have to be awesome to overcome next years defense I'm afraid.

I agree. Wullenwaber, we were going to see a lot of this year (or what they call a lot), but due to his injury, that put him out for the season. DB's stated he was a difficult player to cover from fall camp. It would be nice to have that depth, and keep everyone rotated next year.

Defense wise, I think we will be fine. Great kids that took redshirts, that should have no problem filling in the shoes that will be gone after this season.

run the ball, short passes, dont turn it over, let playmakers make the plays...win out :) oh ya, and play defense...on a side note, this offense imo has been trying for the deep passes to often, i get it that you want to score every possesion but that isnt going to happen, this offense has the ability to wear down defenses, therefore i would like to see us put together nice drives (maybe not score but at least change field position battle or field goals) to help the defense stay fresh and not put them in bad situations so often. I really believe we have that capability with the ridiculous amount of weapons at our disposal...<----run on sentence

 
I think we have one of the best offenses in the nation when 3 things happen:

1) We don't commit stupid penalties

2) We don't turn the ball over

and 3) Beck runs it at least 60% of the time.

It seems this year that when Rex isn't in the backfield, Beck is almost scared to run the football the way that we run it best. Abdullah, Heard, and Cross have all proven that they can be effective runners. Give them the ball.

 
You've got to be high to think this is one of the top teams offensively. Inconsistant, error prone. Poor Poor Poor offensive line play. We've been lucky.

I like Martinez ... I think he is playing with real heart. I think Tim Beck show flashes of brilliance but has to take the blame for the inconsistant play and he is a an inconsistant play caller. He only has two years expirience as an OC so in that aspect he's above average a fast learner (with a lot to learn).

If Burkhead was healthy this might be another story. Considering that the offense (other than the line) is doing okay but not great.
