I'd like to know who is 2nd in home sell-out streaks for home football games? Also, 3rd, 4th, and 5th even.... Anyone know? I googled it, and came up short finding anything but stopped about 6 pages into the search, figuring the answers could only get worse not better? lol!

My only comment is that the original post is 3:18 AM and a reply happened at 3:20 AM. Wow. I am up cause I am at work. That's a pretty fast reply. :-)

This is what I found

As of the 2011 season:

1. Nebraska - 312 (started 1962)

2. Notre Dame - 219 (started 1973)

i didnt think it was close.
i did not even think other schools kept track, because i have never heard of any other school's sell outs being mentioned. i just assumed other schools really did not string together consecutive streaks long enough for merit.

I watched a few Alabama (obviously the hottest team in the last 5 years) games during the year. Just about everygame, there were empty seats in the upper endzone section. One Alabama fan stated the empty seats were a new section not opened yet - wrong. Another fan stated many fans get too drunk before the game and stay in the party areas and never make it up to the game. That probably still counts as a sell out for them.

The stadium does not have to be full to be a sellout. A sellout is when all tickets the university originally had available are sold. We could have all 86000 tickets up for sale on tickethippo but it would still count as a sellout becuase they were bought from the university to begin with. Now, this leads into the discussion of our sellout streak being rather manipulated. Boosters buy up unused tickets and use them for PR. My employer I know has at least 6 pairs throughout the stadium. I've used all 6, and I'm sure he has more. But on the other side of this, you cant really question the legitimacy of the streak, because the stadium seems full even for games like Idaho St.

As far as the party and getting drunk thing, I'll buy it. I know a handful of guys personally that do this. Hell, most of the time they'll stay out until the start of the 4th qtr and then decide to come in if it's a close game. I dont see how one could do that. When I drive to Lincoln for a game, I'm going to the damn game. But to each their own I guess.

There were a few during the BC era that we came close to losing it. I think something like 3000 tickets were paid for on the Friday before the game. Another low end opponent surely, but ours has been manipulated some.

I know that statement about the Bama fans getting drunk before the game is a true story, these guys line up and tailgate on the Monday prior to the big games. The fan loyalty in the SEC/South is truly incredible. I have lived in Tennessee and South Carolina. Every weekend, drive down the neighborhood streets and on nearly every home a SEC or ACC flag on the porch. That was 40 years ago, it truly was amazing to see. Couple that with the low fan loyalty in the LA area, only when SC or UCLA are winning do you see Flags on the houses. I married this in with loyalest fans thread I think.

Didn't a fairly massive number of Notre Dame fans scalp their tickets to Nebraks fans when we visted South Bend in 2000?

When both teams were ranked?

I think you lose style points for that.

Yes, ND was red that day.

Good point.....I don't ever recall that happening with Husker fans at our house :bigredn:

There's a youtube video of that game and in the comments section, there's obviously an argument about Nebraska's attendance. a Notre Dame fan arguing is dumb enough to say "you husker fans think youre so great. There werent that many of you there. Notre Dame wear white shirts too" and so on. That is all.
