World-Herald editorial

Yeah, most Husker fans aren't, but I definitely count the people leaving at halftime at the 2011 Ohio St. game as fairweather.

I was there at that game, I stayed throughout that game. Those people sucked. A few of them were my friends, and I rightfully gave them crap.

The fans won't quit on the program like Bo wanted to quit on the fans.

I think the claims that Pelini said ALL our fans are "fair-weather" are overblown. Yes, he said "all" but I think the "all" is the subset who booed and/or left. And there were plenty that booed so there were plenty in that category that night.

And, yes, I think the booing was ridiculous. To be an "all-weather fan" (or whatever the opposite of "fair-weather" is), you support your team through thick and thin. That doesn't mean you have to be happy about it all the time but booing a bunch of 18-22 year old kids is out of line. Even Shatel (or someone at the OWH) said that.

I agree. I was at the game also. those people were a vast minority at the game.

One OHW Article, dated Oct. 13, 2011:

Pelini’s take…“We have loyal, passionate fans that have invested a lot in this program. I have great respect for this fan base, the support they give, how they travel, all the things that they do. … I know they want to win badly, but I’ve just got to remind them all that we want to win just as bad. Bottom line is, I just simply don’t believe that there’s any place for booing in a college stadium. Some fans may disagree with that, but that’s something I feel strongly about.”

If you want a great example of fair weather fans, you have to look no further than Oklahoma. When OU was down in the mid-90's, you couldn't find a person to admit they were OU fans and you couldn't give away OU memorabilia. But as soon as they started winning again, holy sh#t, they're all of a sudden "life long fans" who support the team thru thick and thin.

And yet Bo attacked a bunch of 18-22 year old kids with f-bombs since they were talking about the student section on that tape.

If those 18-22 year old adults (lets quit calling them "kids" since legally they're adults) got all butthurt because someone dropped an f-bomb in their direction, those adults are in for a big surprise when they enter the real world.

I have heard stories of Husker fans.... who drove to freaking Columbia, Mo., leaving early in .... 1997, because they thought the Tigers had the deal done... only to find out on the radio... OOOPS.

People were leaving way to freaking early from that UCLA game too. Sure, it was going bad, but, come on man, there are only eight home games this year. Stick it out with the team. You are there already and traffic is going to be bad either way. What are you going to do, sprint home so you can get caught up on re-runs and watch other football teams?

No, he didn't. He wasn't anywhere near them when he made the comments.

And there were far more than just the student section booing that night.

The same can be said of the players. If they can't handle booing during a crappy performance...

Now you're talking about something different. They obviously could handle it, to the tune of the biggest comeback in school history.

We're talking about fair-weather fans.

I don't think I am because the fans kept coming back too. They showed up that week after getting embarrassed at Wisconsin, they showed up every week during the Callahan era. I don't think leaving a game early or booing is being a fair-weather fan. They still spent their money to be there. I guess it all depends on what you consider a fair weather fan. The problem now is that the fanbase is divided. It will be real hard to mend it with Pelini here, even though I am against firing him at this point.
