Bo Pelini, from a player’s parents eyes.

Thanks, that's the overreaction I was talking about.
Look, I think there are plenty of legitimate criticisms for the guy. I just don't see this as one. I've yet to see anyone give a good example of him being a d!(k to the fans. I've seen plenty of vague claims that he's antagonized the fans, but I can't get a single concrete example other than some years-old audio of him privately venting about a *subset* of the fans that were, in fact, being dicks. Criticisms of what he has (or hasn't) put on the field lately are legitimate, I'm just looking for some evidence of what seems to me to be mythical hostility towards the fanbase.

Clearly my comments have struck a nerve. I'm really really sorry and I apologize unreservedly. I offer a complete and utter retraction. The imputation was totally without basis in fact, and was in no way a fair comment, and was motivated purely by malice, and I deeply regret any distress that my comments may have caused anyone, or their family, and I hereby undertake not to repeat any such slander at any time in the future.

Thesker

You can read it on this message board.
Yes, and on this message board the height my computer showed was under 800 people (less than 1% of Memorial Stadium capacity)....and that was this past Saturday morning with people looking for "news". I think significantly less than that actually post. I have no idea if it's actually representative or not.....but I know the negativity I read on Huskerboard toward Pelini is not shared by the other Husker groups I am part of.
Forum posters, regardless of the subject matter (video games, sports, software products, etc.), have always seemed to have had the delusional notion that their opinions are representative of the population at large, and it's almost universally not the case.

And you're going to fuss at others for overreacting?

To be honest I'm kind of tired of the fans acting like the "pretty girl who didn't get asked to the prom". We feel like we're owed a date and to be voted prom queen yet we don't do a whole lot to help the team.
I get your point, but you can't legitimately say husker fans do nothing to help the team. Many fans do/ have done a lot both directly and indirectly. Sure, even those that donate lots of money aren't putting forth the sacrifice players do, but I don't think they really think they are more important than the coaches/players. And the "jilted lover" aspect that you perceive is I think because Bo assumes a stance of fans being against him when really they are not (or at least WERE not).

I'm going to fuss at people for not getting that reference. That's funny stuff right there, that's what that is.

Seriously though - I'm not taking this conversation nearly as seriously as people seem to be thinking. Bo is what he is, and we've all seen him at his best and worst. I gather use of the word "d!(k" is what has everyone in an uproar, and sure that was a poor choice of words. Perhaps if I felt more strongly about this subject I'd have worded it better. I had no idea people would be this interested in refuting/debating what I thought was an utterly minor point.

No one was hanging you upside down from a window. I was well aware that it wasn't a serious response, but it was still a pithy, sarcastic response needling those that are simply asking for some evidence to support the idea that Pelini is hostile to the fans.

And equally seriously, it's not just you, even though I chose yours as the message to reply to. There are plenty in this thread that have claimed he's been a d!(k or antagonized the fans, but precious little in the way of actual specifics. That's all I'm looking for, and frankly the closest (other than the leaked audio) I've gotten to a specific complaint is that he wasn't warm enough to you at the coffee shop.

Sker,

This board has changed drastically in the last year. I have been the most vocal about Bo since his hiring. It was pretty much me against the board. Reasons have been discussed many times. But now the board is at a 50/50 ration is my guess, and the farther from Friday it gets the more pro Bo it gets. That is the way it goes.

Like I said this is a Die hard group of fans, and Nebraska brings a state of loyalty with it. No one wants to be anti Bo, all of us want him to succeed. No fan wants to see him implode on the national scene.

But as to numbers, here in SoCal where I live, and the people I talk to, a serious group of fans, and many, many strangers, I would say 95% think he is a raving lunatic, has no business having the job he has. Hate is as strong word, that I never use, but I hear it about Bo on a regular basis. Embarrassment would be the second most used word to describe him.

bham...I don't think Knapp is saying Bo is a d******d because of his talks with him. He is just pointing out that he wasn't very personable which has been stated by others that have met him.

And that's exactly what I said before - not being as personable as someone thinks he should be doesn't mean the guy's being a d!(k.

It was neither pithy nor sarcastic. It was a mea culpa and a joke, because this thread is going on and on and on with ever greater amounts of hyperbole and I'm tired of the discussion.

To my knowledge I've never said Bo was "hostile" to fans. I started this thread off by saying he could show more of the side of his personality that he shows to players and parents to the fans. I really didn't think that was such a controversial statement, but either it was or people are just desperate to discuss something, staring down the barrel of nine months of next to no Husker football. I've discussed my interactions with Bo in another thread, which you clearly read based on your knees/coffee shop post. I neither care to give other examples nor do I really care to continue this discussion.

I apologize for calling Bo a bloated warthog, and I bid you a good day.

Funny, the majority of people I talk with out of state, who have no real interest in Nebraska football, don't have much issue with Pelini's behavior beyond saying, "He probably shouldn't have done some of that." A shrug usually follows. Very few I've spoken with think he's anything close to a raving lunatic.

Just laughed out loud and drew attention to myself.

I read them when you first posted about them years ago, and referenced them yesterday in the same thread before you did. I've not said that you described Pelini as being hostile - I chose to use the word hostile to describe the complaints by several users, not just you, about Bo's attitude towards the the fans. If anyone else feels like giving some specifics as to how his behavior is hostile or antagonizing (I think that's tfree's description) to the fans, I'd love to hear them.
