How long does it take?

Foppa,

I ask this seriously, have you ever had a high ankle sprain, or the infamous turf toe. Torn rib cartilage? Each one of these are pretty debilitating injuries, if allowed to heal. The kid never got that chance. They ran him out there every play for a lot of years. Never being concerned for his health in my mind. I do not think he has ever healed from the first ankle injury. I sprained mine in 1965, in boot camp, and to this day, it still hurts when I do certain things. It is always there still. I have had rotator cuff surgery, both my knees replaced and in honesty none of them hurt worse. It is like a knife stabbing you and twisting. The worst thing for Taylor was his warrior mentality. He may have told some falsehoods about his condition to keep getting back on the field, but you can watch him and see he has never ever been the same as his Freshman year, not even close to me. So yes I think an injury can take four years to heal.

To me the answer is simple... N...... hold up....

YES HE WILL!!!!

it is pretty ridiculous to say that we win a national championship with a 100% healthy martinez, but a 100% healthy martinez is an impossibility and something we have not seen for 4 years. so it was impossible for us to ever win a national championship, even though we were so close, closer than people want to admit?

because if a 100% martinez is an impossibility, then so was a mnc.

Which is sad considering this was the year many people were pointing to as -the- year. A season Taylor, established program, adjusted schedule, yada yada yada.

This is not to say that there cannot be improvment, but a longview needs to be taken here. Anyone who takes a long term look at Pelini's tenure and this teams performance can only see stagnation or regression, to borrow a phrase from our resident Nightmare Clown.

Seriously Husker X, you could change your avatar.

Add to that a coach who is probably incapable of making staff changes if it means parting company with friends and you have a pretty good snapshot of our program.
Pelini and Osborne still talk regularly. Staff continuity was very important to Osborne......and while I don't know for certain, it could be an area Osborne has given Pelini some input on.
I'm a fan of it as well, for what it's worth, but before we get to talk about continuity we have to talk about identity. Without identity there is no continuity, a crisis of which is what I see happening now with the offense. I was not a fan of either coordinator hire when they happened, and my opposition to Beck now doesn't mean I think it's impossible for him to succeed. I just think it's unlikely, and going out and getting someone not in Pelini's circle who can manage that half of the team (find a ST coordinator while we're at it) is the best solution two a couple of related problems.

This is almost off topic from the direction of this thread, but te poll should be will Pelini ever win a conference championship. We really need to let the whole NC thing die, almost like you need the stars to align a bit of that to happen. Also could be when will we beat a top ten team again

Sorry. You can start a new thread with that poll question if you like.

I don't believe in lowering the standards of Nebraska just because some of you have a crush on Bo Pelini.

A conference Championship is a goal, but it's not the ultimate goal. If I posed the conference championship question, it would then make the conference championship seem as if it is some sort of elusive, difficult to obtain, unachievable standard, when the fact is, not only is it achievable, IMO, Nebraska should compete for them every year. If said Conference Championship was won, then Bo supporters would tell the naysayers, "see, we told you he could win a CC game", as if that validates his entire career here.

The fact is, the last six years have not been as good, or bad as some would say. They have not produced CC's or NC's, and slowly but surely, 9 wins has become a standard here. I will stick to my belief that a good coach with a good staff not only wins CC games at Nebraska, but competes for NC's. The goal is always to win them all.

Technically, the two tend to go hand in hand. Win your conference, you're more than likely in the playoffs next year.

Will Nebraska ever out recruit Bama, Ohio State, Stanford, and Oregon? Who would you rather play for as a 5 star athlete? Pelini or Saban? Easy choice.

Great post and the highlighted portion is spot on.

Jesus, there are some delusional people on both sides of the fence. We had no chance of winning a NC with a 100% healthy Martinez. Sorry.
That's patently false. We had a chance. Vegas even had odds on it.
Well that settles it then Lloyd...
