Instead of focusing on the 4 losses, I like to focus on the 9+ wins he's had each year. People who focus on the 4 losses = glass half empty. People who focus on the 9+ wins = glass half full.
Hate to tell you all this...but fans who are 'glass half empty' folks aren't going to help out players.
That is quite some inflated sense of self importance you have if you really think you're helping players and people who point out deficiencies on a message board are hurting players. How about this? How about the coaches and players do their f'ing job and ignore internet posters? How about that my man?
Self importance? How do you get me flexing my self importance from saying that fans that are always debbie downers aren't helping their team out any?
I'm not talking about just message boards...I'm talking about EVERY social media area...twitter included. Think of all those fans that tweeted at TClinkscales...how about the classy one that tweeted "F U Clinkscales" spelled out on his toaster strudels and sent a picture of it to him. Think that doesn't affect coaches? Think that doesn't affect players? Think that doesn't affect recruiting?
People that do that are negative about the program to varying degrees...I'd say they were the extreme example of that varying degree...but an example nonetheless. I'm not saying everyone is that far gone...but they're definitely not helping matters by hashing and rehashing the same boring tripe and concentrating on all the negatives no matter what.
The way I see it is...if you cheer for your team, you help them. If you don't cheer for your team, you don't help them. There's a reason they call the crowd the 12th man at TAMU.
In my opinion, people who are pissed off about Bo or other coaches will cheer less than those that aren't (well a majority of them will...there are exceptions of course). To me, this seems like common sense. As an example, winning programs produce more fans attending games...losing programs produce less fans...which is a statistical fact most of us can accept. It's not a stretch to draw correlation to people who want Bo gone no matter what.
I get that people want Nebraska to succeed...I'm in the same boat. But getting them to succeed...getting ANY player to succeed while coaching them...is not going to happen if you continually point out how sh**ty they are. As someone who has coached basketball, football, and baseball...i can tell you that if I wanted to get less out of my players, I would consistently tell them how crappy they were.
I don't think Nebraska players are message board hawks...but I can tell you they do google their names....everyone does. Some may even setup a google alert to notify them when they're in the news. Either way, they'll run across stuff on message boards from time to time (and other social media) and it's not encouraging to see fans mash Nebraska players and coaches into the ground. Once again, just my opinion.
I'm cautiously optimistic about the next 2 years. If nothing is delivered after that, I'd think they'd make a change and I'd be ok with that.
