Pretty sure when they "simplified" the playbook, the didn't actually change the plays they ran. They just put a lot fewer in the game plan for each week. So they worked on fewer plays in practice during the week to try to focus on running them better. Quality over quantity thing. But they did change how they were doing things after UCLA. They said they were going to do that anyway, didn't necessarily have anything to do with TA playing QB.

I really think Tommy is a hell of a QB Mr. A. I hope I'm not wrong. I see him as a drop back passer, an option runner, and a mobile threat in the passing game as well. I wish we ran more plays in which we rolled him out and gave him the option to run or throw. A solid TE and some good tackles would help us move in that direction a bit. Still probably need improvement in both of those areas. Still, I really like this kid. I've been wrong before, and maybe he does get beat out by Stanton, but I would be shocked if that happens.

The funny part about this all is, while I don't much care for Beck as a coordinator, or a play caller especially, I think TA could make this offense look much more competent.

Also, Beck could use about 800x more screen passes than he currently does, but it's incorrect to say he never calls any.

Now, please understand when I referenced a screen play, I was specifically speaking of a HB screen, something to get Abduallah in the open field. Not saying you're stupid, just want to be clear that there's quite a difference between the HB screen and that idotic WR screen we run about 40 times a game.

You being a video guy, I challenge you to find two examples of a HB screen called by Beck. If you don't want to waste your time with this, no big deal. I just believe you would be hard pressed to do so. I bet I can rewatch your entire highlight video of last season and not find one.

I found one at 10 minutes left in the second quarter against UCLA on a 3rd and 18, another at 10:55 in the second quarter against Purdue on 2nd and 15 just looking for a few minutes. Those full games aren't online so I can't show you but I saw them on my copies of the games.

I also seem to remember, without looking, a game last year where we threw at least 3 or 4 of them. Maybe Arkansas State or Minnesota? Not sure, but anyways, they exist, they just need to exist a hell of a lot more.

It seems to me, age has mellowed some on this board. If I remember correctly, the Sam Keller was asked to leave the ASU Sun Devils, by the team. He came here, and roomed with one of our best defensive players, who then turned into a non player. Some might say he had an adverse affect on the team. His father and Clownahan were very close friends, and we know he made promises to kids to get them here.

I have no idea of what kind of kid Sam was, but there was some dislike for him during the time frame, and lot of it at ASU. A team quit on him and here a team quit after he arrived.

I don't know how much of it was ASU asking him to leave, as much as it was him and his dad whining after he wasn't named the starter. They threw a pretty big hissy fit and that led to him transferring. Whether it was his choice or the school's is a matter of opinion, but you're completely right, it absolutely had an adverse affect on the team.

That was a really weird situation that left a lot of people on both sides confused, to be fair. And their coach didn't last much longer than that.

Let's also be honest about the likely reality that he has virtually nothing to do with the lawsuit other than being a name to attach it to. A bunch of lawyers came up with a way to get paid and needed a public figurehead, which they found in Sam, who likely got a good deal of money out of it himself. Hard to fault a guy for that.

I'll bet you any amount of money it wasn't his idea, nor was he actively working towards this end. He was just a name that a money-hungry group found and paid to be the face of their suit.

You may be speaking of the shovel pass that we are actually discussing in another thread? You're right it would have been a huge gainer. Not quite the same as a HB screen though. Unless I'm mistaken and there was also a HB screen he missed also.

Sure Sam wasnt the only player who didnt get drafted into the NFL that wanted to sue the NCAA and EA. But he was vocal about it.

I didn't actually watch that at first but thanks for posting it. I hadn't actually ever seen a single quote attributed to Keller throughout all of that (admittedly I didn't pay super close attention as I got bored with the whole thing), mostly only ever hearing things from the attorneys involved.
