Pretty sure when they "simplified" the playbook, the didn't actually change the plays they ran. They just put a lot fewer in the game plan for each week. So they worked on fewer plays in practice during the week to try to focus on running them better. Quality over quantity thing. But they did change how they were doing things after UCLA. They said they were going to do that anyway, didn't necessarily have anything to do with TA playing QB.
