B1G Investigating Friday Games & November Night Games

Lord. The reason we start off playing late games and ending with early games is because of the Big Tens no night game november nonsense. We play a bunch at night first half the year so we can take advantage while its nice outside. Come November its figgin cold outside come nightfall. If we took the initiative to just say f it and scheduled a primetime game at home in Novemeber it would be no big deal. Youve gotta find a team willing to do it though.

It will workout just fine. Sky isnt falling. Were not Purdue. Were not being punished.

So having most of our games on BTN and ESPNU is a reward? LOL

Your right, we aren't Purdue, but we are just as big of a laughing stock as they are in the college football world. No one takes us seriously, not scared to play us and we can't perform with the spotlight on us. This is why we don't get any ABC/ESPN games unless we are facing one of the more superior teams in our conference, (i.e. Wisconsin, Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan State). Until we win something of significance or defeat any of those teams on a regular basis, they will be more superior than us.

Okey dokey. Apparantley its embarassing to be showcased on an ESPN channel over the ABC affiliate. Its clearly because the Nebraska brand is tarnished to the point of no return. Has nothing to do with the fact Nebraska vs ILLINOIS is on during a big division game or rivalry game.

Nebraska 5(3 home)

Ohio State 5(2 home)

Michigan State 6(3 home)

Wisconsin 4(2 home)

Michigan 3(2 home)

These are the number of times these teams played 11am games last fall. So how does "deserve" carry any merit when discussing the early start.
Wyoming game- 7pm game- BTN (Yay???)- Embarrassing game for how close it was, impressive offense from us.

Southern Miss- 5PM game- BTN, Its Southern Miss....

UCLA- 11AM game BUT its on ABC.... PISS down our leg.

SDSU- 5 PM game on BTN (Yay???)

Illinois- 11AM game- ESPNU (worse than BTN)

Purdue- 11AM game- BTN

Minnesota- 11AM game, ESPN!!!!!!!- Piss down our leg once again.

Northwestern- 2:30 game, BTN

Michigan- 2:30 game, ESPN!!!! For once, we win on a national spotlight. We got this time slot because the two top 3 winningest teams facing eachother.

Michigan State- 2:30 game ABC!!!!! Guess what... another chance we get to piss down our leg. Embarrassment. The ONLY reason we got this slot was because of MSU.

Penn State- 2:30 game, BTN

Iowa- 11AM game, ABC!!!!! Lets face it, not many big games on that day. We should land this spot because of tradition and the name. Oh and guess what??? Yep thats piss going down our leg!

Georgia- 11AM game, ESPN2 and we finally perform!

6 11am game starts-

4 of those games on national television, we blow 2 of them! We went 1-3 until the Georgia game. There is no way we can count ESPNU as a "premeir" channel. Its lower than BTN on the totem poll.

7 games that started after morning

5 of them on BTN, because ESPN and ABC had better games to televise ALL day. We remaining two games that were on primetime, we dropped the ball against MSU and won against Michigan.

13 games in total:

3 on ABC- we go 0/3. This by far is the most "prestige" channel for us to be on, regardless of the time. I will take an 11AM game if we get televised here.

3 on ESPN/ESPN2- 2/3, with our most important coming against Georgia

6 games on BTN

1 on ESPNU

All 4 losses on primetime tv. Impressive and deserving I guess.... We should feel good that BTN wants us over the other remaining games that ESPN and ABC didn't and send the one they don't want to ESPNU.
Alright, decent breakdown.

Iowa was predetermined to be an 11am start before the season. So was the bowl game. So NU really was slotted/passed into the eleven kick four times. Of those four other than UCLA, what match up Deserves A national broadcast in prime time our 2:30???

The, Michigan game was the second best game that day besides LSU and Bama. The MSU game was mirrored on ESPN2 with Texas/Okie Lite. There were no other attractive games available to ESPN/ABC. Add to the fact that was a huge game for deciding the west it was gonna get that slot.

ESPNU probably is more easily available nationwide than the B1G Network.

I guess I don't get your emphasis on deserving time slots or what exactly your not happy about. again 1 o'clock kicks on radio , twas life not so overly long ago

Deserving time slots, for me, goes for primetime. We can get all the 2:30+ starts we want on BTN, but its just not much "exposure" outside the B1G if you know what I mean.

I just don't think we have shown that we deserve to play primetime at all, whether its morning, midday or night. I would take a game on ABC at 11 any day of the week. I could have been a little more specific in what I was saying, but even on BTN, we need to prove that we deserve the "more favored" time slot. Morning games on BTN are not appealing nationally at all, IMO.

We just got hosed a litttle bit. 11am slots are inevitable. We just had too many in a row down the stretch.

Friday games will be bad for recruiting. Night games in November could be good. I prefer games starting at around 2:00 p.m. or so. NO 11:00 a.m. start times.
^^^^This. Friday night games would be the same as 11:00 am games. Recruits wouldn't be able to make in for those.

As far prime time games go, I wouldn't mind those, if they were played on BTN. I hate ESPN and ABC.

In Friday Games: (IMO)

Non conference with weak teams at home = YES

B1G games including Thursday = NO (except turkey day weekend)

In November night games....... I don't know for sure.

Bottom line, TV market (duh)

Also, bye week B1G schedule. Big advantage i.e. MSU vs. NU last year. I prefer none or else ALL B1G teams will be the same bye week date like late October. You noticed 2016 Huskers schedule was no bye-week at all?

About time the BIG got with it. TV is the biggest force in CFB now and Saturday night is the most prime piece of real estate, you shouldn't just give that up for a third of the season. Plus night games are very helpful for recruiting, especially for us with our considerable distance factor and having to fly talent in.

I wouldn't want Friday home games, bad for recruiting. Wouldn't mind away.

Reading it over reminded me of howhard it is to follow you in the west coast time zone. Even if awake it's hard to be excited.

You also got to experience the one two punch of both Michigans in 8 days, something we've complained about for decades. Ohio State feels it too.
