Stuck in the middle

Can you save your doom and gloom until we lose a game? This is just getting tiring. Why even bother rooting for the damned team if you aren't willing to at least have some hope.
we have lost a game. actually 4, for the past 6 years. i think the point is that what has the coaching staff changed to make us hope that next year will be different other than it just being a new year?

because i am who i am though, i am pretty hopeful. but i concede it is irrational at this point.

Well I think we can win every game on our schedule every year. There is no reason not to. Until I am proven wrong with my undefeated prediction this year I will continue to pick Nebraska in every game. I just think that this year can/will be special. I always hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

As a fan of the team for many many many years, I want what is best for the team. Like the article says, I am very much in the middle on this. I did not like the idea of Bo being hired. I expected failure from him, on a grand level. Not just wins and losses, but total destruction of the program via, lessor quality kids, less control, running free. He has totally changed my mind on that side of the house.

I never felt he was qualified to be a head coach at this level, still not sure that he has changed my mind on that. But we are 6 years into this, he has kept the program out of trouble, developed some very good representatives for this program.

My only problem with Bo now is the publics opinion of him on a National level. I agree he is hounded relentlessly for photo ops. I do believe he has made efforts to correct this shortcoming as all would. And I may agree that his controlled efforts may lead to less on the field. I am not on that field, so very hard for me to make that a conclusion.

Not sure this will be the fix all year, but he has this year to try and get it all together, and I will support him 100% through it. I wish he had looked for help, another set of seasoned eyes on the project, and he my have. Bo has a tough job, in honesty his record should put him on solid ground, but I really do no feel that he is.

I feel like Charley Brown, damn that Lucy! Hopefully this is the year that all of us are waiting for. I have hope after the bowl game. I truly like what he has done with the kids, I want him to succeed. In some aspects he is very close, another year of experience maybe the ticket. I sure hope so.

Whats more important? Cheering for the team come hell or high water or lobbying for a new regime 24/7?

I couldnt care less that weve gone 9-4 6 years in a row. There is absolutely no gaurantee whatsoever that says we will end with that record again this year. Our team is different every year, just like everyone elses. Maybe this year a couple extra breaks go our way and we finish with a 12-0 record. "But Redux, if we were simply BETTER or changed how we coach we could just flat out BE better." Maybe, maybe not. Its not just coaching well or badly that determines the outcomes. You think Auburn expected to have two HUGE season changing game enders that landed them in the BCS title game? They deserved to lose both of em be it on coaches or players. But they caught a break.

This year for Nebraska, with our talent, our staff, and our schedule, I see us catching one or two of those very breaks that could get us where we wanna be. There isnt actually a curse on Bo Pelini or Nebraska.

teams that are afraid to fail are also afraid of greatness.
Yeah, we'll see how well that works in the real world. You can't back up a 6-6 season by saying, "at least we tried for greatness!"
Yeah, I think you can. Actually it happens all the time. Winning programs hit a patch where some young players have to grow into their roles and playbooks get retooled to match the talent, and the team scraps its way to a 6-6 record. Next season they might jump to 10-4 or straight to 12-2. They might win a national championship and then regress the next season as they search for a QB.

Or to put it another way, would it have been more fun being an Auburn fan or a Nebraska fan the past six seasons?

I gotta assume every major college coach is trying for greatness. I'm not unhappy about our 9 wins per season. It's the quality - and familiarity - of the four losses that makes me think consistency isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Nothing wrong with failing, it can be a great learning experience. It's only a problem when you don't learn from it. Which might be part of the reason the football program has been stuck in neutral for several years now.

Correct, it appears Nebraska has a head coach with an incredible amount of hubris. And plenty of players, some of who, are in leadership positions, who think what they're doing is more than ample. Not exactly recipes for a championship.

This is an honest, fair assessment on what's going on with Nebraska Football right now.
So of course Huskerboard will choose to either mock, ignore or dismiss it.
All the articles in the world can be written about how stale or lackluster Nebraska is right now. They will all mean squat when we come out strong and prove them all wrong this year.
Is this post from 2006? Or 2010?

No wait, this definitely has some of that wacky 2007 slang to it!

You'll excuse me if I actually want to see this happen before I blindly believe it again.
You will never ever cheer faithfully for Nebraska again. You won't blindly give the benefit of doubt, but you blindly dismiss the team you claim to be a fan of.

I like Nebraska. Sometimes they freakin low my mind as to why/how they lose. But I still like them. You seem to revel in wjht ails them most instead of deciding to cheer for what are clearly positive signs f li on this team.

You know how it's easier to fix stuff when it's apparent it's broken or it's working but if it happens sporadically it's hard to figure out what to do to improve? that's where we are now, stuck in neutral. He's had different qb's, rbs, wide outs, lineman, etc team and it's always amounted to the exact same record. I would say Bo is doing enough not to get fired but not enough to keep his job.

Or I'm intelligent enough to see the obvious problems that need to be fixed so my rooting in the team can be further enhanced by them actually winning something of substance, like a conference title or, -gasp-, more. Something that has eluded this program since the Clinton administration. Blindly wishing gets absolutely zero done.

I think we are bound to repeat history if we make no changes. Hopefully Polo, 74 and a lot of us are totally wrong. This will be the year that everything clicks. It can happen, but some are as tired of some telling us everything is great as those saying and hearing the opposite.
