Fightin' Erstads vs Ohio State

based on last night's 9-inning game by DeLeon and Sinclair's 9-inning performance today it seems as if Erstad has pretty much lost all confidence in his closers. i happen to agree with him.

I thought we were going to pull it out in the 8th again but they decided to make it more interesting...Great game

As far as today, being down 2 in the 9th kind of renders it pointless, you probably try and save your closer for the next day hoping you actually have a lead going to the 9th; however I don't remember if Erstad mentioned the Iowa game giving cause to leave DeLeon in last night or not, but I'm sure it was a main reason.

But also, the guys are stretched out 1 week further, if you can get 9, you take it even if Mariano Rivera is waiting in the 'pen

I don't think he lost confidence in the closers. If the starter is pitching great why take him out?
Somebody will probably say DeLeon should have been left in against Iowa. Maybe so, hindsight and all, but his pitch count was 115 after 8. DeLeon finished last night at 119, and caught somewhat of a break with the runner going for second on a pitch that was not as much in the dirt as he apparently thought

Great job getting this win today. Erstad wasn't too happy on the post-game.
no he wasn't. i did like how he took the blame for the first 7 innings and then gave the credit to the team for the last two. that being said, he certainly didn't mince words regarding their effort and play starting with batting and fielding practice before the game. don't know if he was serious, but stated something to the effect, that batting and fielding practice before the game would be like try outs for the game to see who wanted to play.

2 complete games w/4 unearned runs & both games given to us due to errors & walks. Other than our pitching, the effort has been poor. You can not continue to get lucky. The coach has a right to be upset.

Yesterday was the first complete game since 2010, and now we have them back to back days.

I agree that the rest of the team hasnt done their part compared to the pitching. Hopefully tomorrow they wake up and get the bats swinging
