Fresno just picked up a ringer QB

Wilson was a final piece to the Wisconsin puzzle that I am still amazed didn't do better(I was thinking MNC run).
Remember their two regular season losses were to hail marys. And they avenged one of them for the conference title. They were close. REAL close to that point.

I thought they were good enough to avoid close games. They were close to getting there, but I had that team pegged as one that would breeze through their regular season schedule.

It is still Fresno. Derek Carr turned in a pretty gutsy, solid performance as a sophomore against us in 2011...and Fresno got rolled, 42-29.

I'd be very surprised if this one is even that close. Much better defense this year. Much better team this year.

I sure wouldn't say we "rolled" Fresno that night. It was 21-20 going into the 4th quarter and we didn't even have a lead at all in the game until Enunwa's touchdown midway thru the 3rd. That game was surprisingly uncomfortable.

Yeah, the final score didn't reflect how uncomfortable that game was until the very end. We saw a similar game last year against Wyoming. And against SDSU in 2010.

But that Fresno game, they led at halftime and were easily trading blow for blow with us in the first three quarters. They scored what would have been a tying TD in the 4th quarter but they missed the PAT, and then Ameer ran the ensuing kickoff back 100 yards for the TD. Bo missed it because he was trying to chew someone out on the sidelines over Fresno's latest TD. Not sure if Bo was giving the business to Stafford or Ciante or who that was, but I remember the guy was on the bench, Bo was chewing him out, there was a huge roar for Ameer's TD, Bo turned around to see what was going on and while his head was turned the player he was "coaching up" grabbed his helmet and ran out to block for the PAT team. Bo turns back to continue the harangue and the guy was gone. Pretty funny Bo face on that one.

Ameer's TD, for old time's sake:

Funny how perception changes over time and how early on everyone thought of Ameer as the next all-time great special teams weapon.

I find it quite ironic that someone questions the use of the word "rolled" yet there is a 5 page topic going on about BP's blowout losses that defines a blowout loss as anything by double digits. :ahhhhhhhh

Yeah, not close to rolled.

It was Austin Cassidy. He was the holder on the field goal team.

That was hysterical.

I think there was a lot of discussion in that thread regarding the definition of a blowout, but since knapplc started that thread, people didn't argue all that much. ;)

I think what it comes down to is if we beat a team like Wyoming or Fresno by 10 points, it's not very exciting, but if we lost by the same amount it would sure feel like a big blowout.

For this year, I just hope we can beat Fresno by any amount, being on the road at night makes me nervous. However, when we host Miami, I do expect to "roll" them.

I would have been much more worried about Frenso if we had to face them last year. They were probably legitimately the better team, but those mid-majors tend to peak then fall back to earth pretty rapidly.

Before anyone points out the Boise State exception, let's establish that it's an exception and not the rule.

Boise was Kellen Moore and Chris Petersen and a quietly sound defense. Those 3 factors are gone now. Boise missed its chance at getting picked up by a better league.

Actually you are quite wrong. BSU has always been good at FB clear back to when they played JUCO ball in the early 70's. From DII to 1AA to 1A they have always had good FB.

Most seem to forget that they beat OU in 2006 and that was 2 years before Moore even got there. They were also good under Houston Nutt, Dirk Koetter, and Dan Hawkins, before Peterson took over.

The Kellen Moore years just happen to be what most remember.

BSU should be decent this year probably 9-3 is a good bet.

I guess that is my point. Looking at the score it looks like a fairly comfortable win. You have to watch the game to see how it really went. Just like in some of BP's losses that are considered "blowouts". Watching the MSU game from last year I don't feel that NU was blown out, but if you look at the score it would indicate that.
