Bo Pelini Negative Achievements

I don't mind so much that people air their grievances about this coach, the coaching staff or the team. There's plenty of justified gripes out there.

I don't mind so much that people sing the praises of this coach, the coaching staff or the team. There's plenty of things to be proud of as a Husker fan.

What drives me crazy is the way these threads turn into fan vs. fan bickering, like rocks grinding together in a landslide. At the bottom of the hill, everything is worn down to dust and scree.

That's what I see happening at HuskerBoard. Everyone is grating away at each other. Bunches of people have just checked out. For some it appears the bickering is the new Big Thing, they live for it and perpetuate it, Boliever & Boleavers alike.

i think there is more common ground than disagreement, but there is just nothing else to discuss now. it is a perfect storm, if you will.

Bickering on a message board is a new thing?

It's amusing when people take these sort of things personally. Some people act like a critique against Bo is an attack on their own mother. Some people act like any defense of Bo is a blatant act of ignorance and naivete. Any critique or defense is fair game, honestly, and if you can back up your view with evidence, even better. It gets mighty entertaining when people turn it into an actual grudge match complete with personal insults, but it's not productive.

I still think all of it is fun to read about, however. I lol'd at the convo in the other thread about tongues up buttholes.

There's not going to be consensus until there's results. "Achievements" like a 9 win season streak, the coolest spring game moment and a recruiting class that ranked high halfway thought the cycle wasn't going to assuage any one questioning the direction of the program and it was foolish to think otherwise.

They're nice things, but the best possible way to get a consensus on this board is a black or white success or failure from the football team. Since that schedule in 2014 is rather soft on paper, a 13-1 season or better would be nice.

You see that most everywhere. Not just this board, but every board. Facebook, twitter, radio, the local watering hole. Bo is a polarizing coach. He's the central figure in some very polarizing events. This is not a unified fanbase, not even close. It seems with each passing season both sides gain a few more followers then dig their heals in deeper. At some point - regardless of which side of the debate you fall - you have to ask yourself, is continuing down this path in the best interest of the program? We all know it's highly unlikely the debate will change. So in my opinion, that becomes the ultimate question the administration has to answer. How long before a large enough faction of the fan base checks out entirely? I can guarentee you the casual Husker fan, which likely outnumber all of us diehards 5-1 will eventually begin to be turned off. And whether anyone likes it, they're ultimately probably the most influential because they have the numbers.

everyone, mark it down, i am about to disagree with polo.

it would be nice to get more wins. but, frankly, i would be happy if the team just played better. just performed more consistently and had better fundamentals.

now, i would imagine you would say it is damn near impossible not to win 12 games with our schedule if we are doing that. but for me, it really is not about wins and losses. it is about how we perform, or under-perform.

just my imo.

agree. all comes down to the losses. are they 5 turnover meltdowns, did we give up 500+ rushing yards. or did play hard, execute, and just get beat by a better team? really that's the crux of the Pelini era.

Valid points, but tightening up play will probably take care of the record itself. And next year......seriously if Nebraska plays hard, mistake free football and loses at the wire to any team not named Michigan St or Wisconsin, then it's time to take an honest look at where Nebraska is in scope of it's own history.

correct - if they play hard, mistake free football - they don't lose a couple of the games in the first place.

I wonder how much of this is also fueled by the lack of a true hated rival right now. Remember we used to post stuff about other schools in the B12 and make fun of their funny little fans? We need an Iowa thread started, have they done anything stupid recently?

I'll disagree. This isn't the program or the game of the 90s anymore, we haven't done anything to suggest that we will easily win all of those games, or that those teams aren't deserving of beating DoNU.

Sad but true.

"Deserving" isn't really what I'm after. I guess I'm getting at is the amount of money being spent on Stadium should drive should bring with it an expectation to beat the Minnesota's and Northwestern's of the world often. And 70-31 and 5 turnover shitfests should never happen.

The game hasn't changed so much for those expectations.
