SBNation B1G Preview: #4 Nebraska

I don't think many people are saying we can't. There is almost 100% certainty that we can.

But there is no certainty that we will. That's always where the divide has been. It's about evaluating how much risk exists and then what the potential returns (good and bad) on taking the risk.

I would be happy if it made you miserable for another year polo

Thing is, I don't think Nebraska has 4 loss talent. That is to say I like the talent on this team. I think he's off where others think he's off. So poor fundamentals, special teams and coaching miscues lead to the four, if it happens.

The thought that we as a school can't an upgrade from that is positively ludicrous, no matter how many times people chant it.
Dave Bartoo at CFB Matrix tackled the Nebraska/Pelini thing back in October of last year (right after the Minnesota loss). Listen to the whole thing.

Sure we can upgrade, but the chances that we will in the first hire are very slim.

The next hire won't be the first. It will be the second if we're using the Solich firing as the first mistake. And I have to think the commitment and oversight to get this one right will make the Miles hiring look like a Pederson search.

I'm guessing you didn't listen.

The mistake you keep making is assuming that it's a slam dunk based on how the Admin does in a search. It's a two way street. Quality candidates have to want to come here.

If the podcast and this statement is to infer that quality coaches wouldn't want to come here......well respectfully I'm not wasting my time listening. Pedersen didn't have a plan and Osborne didn't want to look beyond three guys. Frankly it's never been tried since Devaney. I'd it can happen with our moribund basketball team I'm quite certain it can happen in football.

We can pretty much guarantee that 9-4/10-4 will not result in the firing of Pelini. We were 8-4, with a high probability of 8-5, on top of his shenanigans last year and he didnt get axed.

The wheels will have to fall off for us to abandon this process. We still have effort as well as constantly improving recruiting. Another 4 loss year isnt gonna do it. But yes, it again will be dissappointing. Dont confuse reality with desire.

Probably, but I'm not too sure. There are tons of scenarios that could have been at play that prevented a move.

Either way, I think this article is another sign that the media storm that happened when Solich was axed would not happen this time should it happen.

That would be because Bo was required by 95% of the folks who mattered in the decision. And it was long before Callahan was fired.

But I'll agree with you for the most part. This is a sentiment that has changed in my mind over the past year or two. That we could get someone noteworthy. Bo has rebuilt this program to at least a respectable state and to a point that is close to getting over the hump. And we've been in this rut and downtroddenness for 10+ years now. It's a far different situation than in 2003 when we all looked like spoiled brats trowing a tissy fit over finally having a couple of subpar seasons (becuase that's how they were veiwed on a national scale). But I still say the the wheels have to come off in an obvious fashion to pull the plug on this. We're 7 years in. I think we're close enough that we need to stick it out till we do get over the hump or the wheels do come off. I also believe that one or the other will happen in the near future. i dont know which, but it could be this year. We shall see.

The two things that discredit this idea are that our basketball team was not burdened with high expectations or history, and that Tim Miles wasn't a no-brainer. The reaction of most of us was, "who?" and the rest of us was, "okay I like this hire I think he has the chance to do really well". Eichorst would never hear the end of it if he hired someone like that.

Tim Miles was no better of a candidate than Bo was at the time he was hired, and Bo was no less loved by Husker nation after his second season than Tim was after his. His only leg up was head coaching experience, but as I and others have documented, previous head coaching experience does not correlate to success.

I agree. See my nextest post above.

And let's not compare our football programs situations to the basketball's. Like I've said before, we'll see how lovey lovey everyone is of Miles the next couple years if we only make NIT's instead of sweet 16's.

Success breeds expectations. Last year the basketball team greatly exceeded them, hence the mountain to climb just got quite a bit higher.

"I don't want to listen something that challenges my worldview"

This is a national guy. Try expanding your view just a little bit.

Bingo. Since the admin didn't make a move after the Iowa game, it's not happening barring a collapse.

Say neither happens any time soon. Do we just keep going on ad infinitum? Do our fanbase and our donors allow that to happen? If not, how long do we keep going?

26000 years

or until Bo takes Urban's job, which according to my records and factual history, would be sometime in the next 3-5 years.
