BTN: Top B1G Special Teams

Thanks_Tom RR

All-American
13. Nebraska. Incoming freshman Drew Brown, the younger brother of ex-Husker place-kicking great Kris Brown, will battle Mauro Bondi for the kicking job. The punting job is in good hands with Sam Foltz. The return game needs some oomph. Who will step up?

This in no way should be a surprising ranking, unless you thought we would be dead last. Multiple threads here have been dedicated to decision the issue of special teams play, which contributes to our poor field position. In the end, the scheme for punt coverages need to change to give the returner a chance, and we have to hope that Drew Brown is the answer for FG and PAT.

Not sure why Pelini is so scared of fakes and roughing penalties, almost every other top program balances returns and blocks. Nebraska was dead last at 124th in punt return average at 3 yards. Kick returns weren't bad at 22.8 yards, 41st overall.

We have two scholarship kickers and our kicking game is a complete unknown. But "The punting job is in good hands with Sam Foltz," walk-on. What's wrong with this picture??

We have had tremendous luck with walk-on kicker, Alex Henery, Brett Maher, and, now, Sam Foltz. However, that won't also be the case. Bondi is too inconstant. Hope Brown is ready to go.

Odd to be here, we've always been so good at special teams. Then the punt return game last year and the struggle to hit even extra points in the spring game. We'd better hope that Drew Brown takes after his brother.

Lumping all our special teams as being the worst in the B1G is a gross over-exaggeration. Our punt returns were terrible but we were respectable in almost every other category.

Kickoff Returns - #4

Punt Returns - #12

Punting - #5

Kickoffs - #6

Field Goal % - #1

PAT % - #10

AVERAGE - 6.3

I'd say we're a lot closer to the middle of the pack than the bottom. Not great, but not terrible, even with punt returns figured in.
