I'd rather win and be slightly unethical, you can oversign in the big ten but you have to explain why to the Big Ten. I'd say go for it. The conference caps it at 3 players over the limit so we could never do it as much as the SEC.

is over-signing actually unethical? or do we just not like it because we think we are better than it? if the recruits know they could get dropped, that is assumption of the risk.

not to mention that it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy real quick. you get good classes from over-signing, better kids want to come to your school, you get even better classes, so on and so forth.

But you understand he gives them to seniors so it doesn't matter because we get it right back the next class right? Very few go to underclass guys unless they are in the two deep. Spencer long types.

That said we need to over sign by 1-2 every class to account for the enivitable bone head bike stealers. Which is perfectly legal in the big 10....3 is the limit, which I think we need to do this class.

There's a middle ground and Nebraska needs to be there.

Taking the high road that isn't there and not getting more players under scholarship who can actually have an impact is a hindrance this staff doesn't need.

You can over sign if you think a 4th year junior is going to graduate and move on because they never made it, or a guy like Bondi get beat out and decides to go kick for a small school his last year, or if you know someone is going to transfer, and you can plan for atleast one guy getting kicked off a year for being a dumbass.
We are not good at accounting for this. The difference is we will hold on to guys like Jay Guy and those types that never pan out and give them their 4 years to get a degree before we kick them to the curb. Alabama will cut you loose as soon as it becomes obvious your not going to cut it. That's the difference here, Bo does it the right way. It's not win at all cost, with him. He gives you the best opportunity to get your degree, even if you don't pan out, as long as you practice hard and keep out of trouble that is.

In defense of the top tier SEC teams like Alabama and LSU, they sign large classes each year because they lose 5-6 juniors to the NFL draft. I think over-signing is a much bigger problem at SEC schools that aren't doing that (I'm looking at you Tennessee and Ole Miss).

This is where I'm at. If there are scholly's open for seniors come 1st semester, then they'd damn well better be giving them out (or even juniors - Long/Pelini). The problem is that there are so many available. That's where we lose ground on the SEC without having to. It's a self inflicted wound. Stumpy up there jumps to the conclusion that I think we need to be Bama - the 50% they cheat at. I'm concerned about the 50% we bring on ourselves, the 25ish spots over 6 years that ideally aren't available in the first place, spots which have an equally, if not greater negative impact on our team than the 50% Bama adds...because you can only be so deep before it doesn't matter as much anymore. We all know it's a #s game, the more bodies, the better odds for contributors. That's why the walk-on program is important. But we have the opportunity to add 2-3 more bodies (i'm look at you CJ Johnson) per class without forcing anyone out of the program every year, and we don't take it. There's some risk, but we all know a few kids aren't going to be at camp each year.
