Also two-loss Clemson and two-loss South Caroliny are ahead of Nebraska. It seems that the Sagarin model does not punish a team if they get beat by a better team.

I wonder what Texas will be ranked after Baylor beats them this Saturday. They'll be 2-3 and their stats will be very close to Louisiana Tech, ranked 88th this week:

25 Texas A = 81.64 2 2 72.74( 16)

88 Louisiana Tech A = 64.82 2 3 74.89( 10)

So will Sagarin drop Texas down to somewhere around 88th?

Sagarin is one of the handful of systems that has Nebraska below 20 but its certainly not the lowest (Catherwood!!!!)

You're reading that right. Oddly, for whatever reason, a lot of those have us rated top ten.

Annnnndddd.... ESPN's almighty Football Power Index has us at 27. Ha. What a joke of a system.

 
Computer polls are no less biased than human polls, and Sagarin's is no different. The reason is that there are millions of factors that influence the outcomes of games, and the bias comes in picking and choosing which factors are important enough to measure and include. In truth, nobody knows which combination of factors should be used.

I personally don't think rankings and polls are very useful at all, not with the very limited number of games played. The way to determine a champion is with playoffs, like every other true sport uses.

The one ranking I look at is the RPI. It uses only wins and losses, and wins and losses of opponents. It gets better as the season goes along and more games are included. But it's still no substitute for actual head-to-head competition.
