Bo was the right hire in 2007, don't think he's the right coach in 2014. Those two statements can go together believe it or not. He's got it teed up for the next guy that's for sure.

It would be ironic if, after the better recruits Bo has pulled in the last year or two, another coach comes in and eclipses Bo's achievements. We'd hear no end of "We should have kept Bo! See!!!" It would be the polar opposite of the kind of fandom I have been rebutting lately, but equally annoying.

It's hard to argue against your first line, especially when Beck says the team was "overcoached" in the Michigan State game. We've heard that statement before, from this staff, more than a year ago. That's a fixable mistake, but it's still being made. That's entirely on the coaches, and it needs to stop. If it won't stop (or can't) then something has to change.

I'm not afraid to try another coach, and I'll ride out the rough waters of making a wrong hire or two. But it's going to be exceedingly difficult to lure the best coaches here if we fire another 9-win coach. Pederson's firing of Solich is going to haunt us for a long time.

I'd like to see how the season pans out before we say Nebraska still gets blown out and doesn't win anything tangible and start punting. So far, we haven't got blown out and we are still in line to win tangible things. I'm not giving up on the players and/or coach. I see a lot of good in this program.

I agree. But I cant help but be a tad pessimistic. I know it's so unlike me, but we gotta be honest with ourselves. After 6 games, we've had one that we lost, and one that we coulda (a strong case for shoulda) lost. And in those two, the issue was not talent gap, x's and o's, etc. It was mentality issues. That same "not ready to play" as we've seen. So at this point, because of such, I've done myself a favor by not expecting too much anymore this year. I do not expect a, what is now a 7th year, trend of unpreparedness to be fixed in just a matter of a couple weeks while we escape against overmatched competition and these problems are covered up by 35-14 and 42-21 wins until we go to Madison. The truth is, Michigan St whooped our a$$ for 3 quarters and I still think some folks are letting a ridiculous flurry of epic proportions in the final minutes that was almost successful blind them from the fact that there are still zero signs of the little things bein fixed.

I hope I'm proved wrong. And I also still sit on the stance that 9-10 wins is still not fireable. I'm just a long term type of guy that thinks we need to stick with Bo until he gets over the hump, or the wheels come off. It's purgatory, yes.

Honestly, I think we would hear more of...."aaaahhaaaaa.....see....we should have gotten rid of him much sooner."

I don't see anyone saying, "Everything is great. He is the greatest coach that ever lived and I'm perfectly content and happy". Now, there i the "Bo needs to go" crowd and they can't get rid of him soon enough. They seem to think their mission is to make sure everyone else is being tortured to death by how horrible this team is". Then, you have the people that say, "OK, we have issues, but, they are fixable and we are one heck of a lot better than when he came on board. AND, we are better than most programs in the country and even our conference." In other words, "we have a good program that can improve to be great".

I think it would an entirely different scenario. Solich had a conference title and a BCS title game appearance (a bad one yes) under his belt. The general consensus was "what in the world are they doing? ". The consensus after Iowa was "why didn't they? When Bo was retained. If he left after this year I believe it'd be more like "well he hadn't won anything and it was probably time last year"

But what if we had 2007 for like 5 years in a row? I think that's what Knapp is talking about. Even for me as someone who bitches about the Callahan years, you cant argue witht the fact that that era was a pretty steady upswing until that 2007 USC game, when it all fell apart. But before that, there was some pretty steady improvement and progress. I wasnt here for that era, but I would guess there was a pretty optimistic look to the future after the '06 season, looking back on how that era begun and what it had come to. Dont think ANYONE could say with a clear conscious that they saw what happened in 2007 coming. While it may have been bad, it doesnt stand a tee to what it would be like if we went into that kind of spiral for a 5 year stretch or so.

You're wrong, there were about twice as many people who were never happy with anything Callahan did, and mostly they got banned for doing so.

And if you really think we are destined for five straight years of our worst seasons ever if Bo is moved, I've said it before but that's far more pessimistic than I'm capable of being.

The recruiting issues are a huge deal, though to use the word "only" about. It's why Nebraska wouldn't enter the conversation with coaches like U Meyer and N Saban who can pick their job based on those things.

It was comments and speculation on the mood and atmosphere of HuskerNation, and more specifically, HuskerBoard if (IF, not when) we would have to go through a 2007 like stretch for multiple seasons in a row. Through multiple Callahan like failures, multiple tenures in a row. Now go ahead. Stick your frickin nose in the air and tell us all how great it'll be when Bo is canned.

At the risk of derailing this, Tim Miles hasn't won anything either. And the pressure for him to succeed even in year 2 was extremely low. I like the guy and he has given me no reason to doubt his abilities so far. I just don't think we should be talking about if Bo is gone we will need to find the next Tim Miles.
