Not sure I understand this new method- I think the top four teams will play in two bowl games and the final two in a championship game in the new year. I don't know if this is much better than the BCS or the previous method. Looking at this first list, its possible that there could be more than 4 teams considered worthy- especially by the fans and writers.

I still think they should play all bowl games as they have been played up to now and then select the top 4 teams. The semi-finals should be played in mid January and the championship game on the day before the Super Bowl. There may be more than 4 teams looking like championship teams after all bowl games are played but less likely that the present method. I sent an email to Perlman and his opinion was that the extended time would be too disruptive to the academics. I think only four schools would be affected and they would be more than compensated by huge TV revenues.

FCS teams play a 24-team playoff and somehow manage to still be college students- I think their games all take place in December. Perlman is full of crap.

The committee's top four teams will be in the two playoff bowls with the winners playing in a new championship game. I believe the committee will also select the participants for the four non-playoff major bowls. Not sure if they are locked in to #5-#12, or how that all works.

And no one watches their regular season.

There's a pretty big quagmire from 3 through 5, and another from 6 through 13, both of which will sort themselves out nicely in the coming weeks.

Ole Miss at 4 is surprising.

That game vs Auburn is gonna be fun to watch.

Yet, somehow, it will prove how great both of them are and they'll both rise in the rankings.

Thought the committee did a great job. Probably would have switched Ole Miss and Alabama.

i agree. neb. at 15 is extremely fair. and everything else looks like it will shake out the way it should. i also like what jj said. most one-loss teams just need to win out and will be fine. neb. has a very good shot at making it if they can win out. the thing is few teams will win out. and that is the point. if at the end of the year you get left out, i believe for every team except maybe 1, and a slim chance of two, it will be their own fault.

But I'm just glad the committee appears to get it. You want the best 4 teams, you're going to get the best 4 teams. The only real question remaining is how heavily will conference championships be weighted, which is a pretty dang huge question. Let's say you've got a 2-loss SEC Champion in Auburn or something, vs. a 1-loss Baylor or Michigan State. Then what? Or, say you've got 1-loss SEC Alabama that didn't win the conference title vs. 1-loss TCU who did?

Should be fun.

All you need to know is that you're not even looking at half the picture. Your losses aren't the only thing that matters.

To be fair Marshall kinda struggled with FAU, we know how good they are. Still if Marshall finishes 13-0 they deserve a good ranking and a new years day bowl.

Or do they deserve more? Isn't this why we have a playoff to work that out and not have more Utah States and Boise States?

yeah, and i realize this will always be controversial, because if the tie goes to the sec team then all hell will break lose; but i do believe in the end, if you are not in the playoff, you will only have yourself to blame. and i direct that specifically at you, tschu. if you, tschu, are not in the playoff, i do not want to hear any whining.

why could we not have beaten msu? gd. we would be the no. 3 team at least. man, that would be sweet.

Have no problem with Ole Miss being there. They have some big wins and a tough loss against a tough team in a tough place to play.

I think Bama and Ole Miss are interchangeable but since Ole Miss won head to head, not annoyed.

TCU might end up in the 4.. tough games against WVU and KSU is all that really stands in there way.

Kind of interested to see if somehow we have a final 4 of FSU, TCU, Oregon, Michigan State of the SEC schools decide to beat eachother up so bad they all have two losses.

If Mississippi State and Florida State win out, the previous system would have worked fine.

If either of those teams lose, I get the feeling it will be much better - and exciting - to see two more teams who will be very close as far as who "deserves a shot" to be in the playoff.

Also if we win out and Mich st wins out you will have 2 top 10 teams in the B1G CCG. Winner is in the playoffs period

Ole Miss beat Alabama. Also, Alabama doesn't have a great victory yet. They struggled against a decent WVU team and lost to the only other decent team they've played. Of course, they'll have their opportunities, but as of now I think Alabama at 6 (or even lower ) is fair.

As a whole, I think that the playoff will end up exactly how most thought (feared?). Two SEC teams will get in, along with FSU and Pac-12/Big 10 champ if they have 1 loss (by virtue of the conference championship). The SEC West will probably cannibalize themselves, making it difficult to end up with 3 teams in the playoff, ditto to the Big 12. Let's just hope that the two SEC teams that get in don't both with their semifinal game, if matched in opposing brackets. If we had an all SEC championship game, the hype train will go into overdrive and the sport will be harder than ever to watch.
