Turner Gil - - Why Not?

Before you say "heck no" (or something worse), look at what this man has done:

Buffalo - - This team was 8-49 in 5 years before he arrived. Three years later, they won the conference.

Kansas - - Be fair to the man: Could ANYBODY have done well with that bare cupboard? Worse yet, the Big 12 was simultaneously at its Apex during his brief, 2-year stint. Not even Tom Osborne could have had a winning record under those conditions.

Liberty - - Three winning seasons in a row. They have gotten better each season. They are currently in the semi-finals of the FCS playoffs.

Turner has NEVER had talent at any of his stops. He has always had to pick the leftovers after schools like Akron, Toledo, or North Texas have finished picking through the rubble. Imagine what this man could do with some actual talent.

I'm not advocating hiring someone just because they were a former Husker. This man can coach and he's still young enough. Better yet, he has grown since his days at Kansas. Also he won't be learning on the job. Be honest: Wouldn't it be nice to have a coach who actually loved being a Husker? Turner has always been a winner. Imagine Turner getting the team ready for Wisconsin. None of this four-man-rush, fall-on-your-face B.S. Turner would have us winning these games.

Would love to see Turner come home.

With his nebraska ties he would be a good fit. But honestly that Kansas stint would put an ugly taste in any programs mouth thinking about hiring him for a HC position.

I think this is a great post that can stimulate good conversation. Most would say "heck no", perhaps I will too, but you raise interesting points.

You make some good arguments...but still too much of a risk IMO. There are more proven candidates Nebraska could hire (if we even fire Bo)

Because he was terrible at Kansas and went psyco on his team by pushing his beliefs on his kids like they weren't allowed to have women in thier rooms after 10 PM. Yea, a lot of kids will want to play for someone like that. He is good where he is at, a small school where there aren't much for expetations. That is where Frank and Bo both belong too.

There is noone that is in the Osborne "coaching tree" that is qualified to be the head coach at Nebraska. It would have been nice if there was, but there isn't. We will have to go outside of the "family" to get back to an elite level.

Gill made the classic mistake of taking a D-1 job even though it was the worst on the market. Should have stepped up to a San Diego State type school before going to a power 5 school. I think he could have been a really good coach. However, the disaster at Kansas has scared everyone. I don't blame schools for being scared, but I still think he can coach.

I find it funny that coaches like Solich, Gill, and even Bo are considered "failures" because they can't "win big" at a Power 5 school. There are 120 FBS head coaching jobs. So these men were among the top 100 at their profession. That seems pretty good to me.

My comment had to do with people's comments that Bo sucks, Bo is incompetent, Bo is a moron. To me if you have one of the top 100 jobs in your profession, you are doing pretty good.
