Offer Briles 5-7 million a year and see what happens

We need the best, not someone who is unproven, so why not offer a premium price. That amount of money, with Nebraska's tradition, would cause most every coach to get it serious consideration.

There are only about 3 or 4 coaches that have been mentioned that are quality hires. The rest involve a high degree of risk. If your going to get ride of Bo, it better be for someone who is better.

Sure you can always try but he is never going to leave Texas unless he tried his hand in the NFL. He is as Texan as you get when it comes to football coaches. If he isn't going to take the Texas job, why would he take the Nebraska job?

I agree with the money part, but not with Briles. He's a great coach, but his offensive style is not a good fit for Nebraska or he Big Ten imo. That's just me though.

The path to a conference championship and getting into the CFP is much easier in the Big 10 West, than it is in the Big 12. So, there's one reason. $$$. There's another reason.

You could be right, but it also might be that Texas is (kind of) rival of Baylor and he would have to be playing against his former team a year later. That be pretty hard to do.

I like him a lot. I think Briles was part of the equation last year (if rumors were true). But, the more I look at him, I think he is best suited for Texas area than up here. I am not totally convinced he can replicate that success outside of his comfort zone (area).

Offering Briles a potful of money will yield the same amount of fruit as offering Saban a potful of money. They both said no to Texas despite Texas being one of if not the best gig in college football.

However, assuming SE's #1 doesnt' come on board, offering a guy like Saban or Briles a boatload of money would signal we're ready to pay, and pay big to get a hire. That opens up some doors that might otherwise remain closed.

Wow. My head is someplace else.

Baylor just built him a brand new state of the art stadium. Cmon. Art Brile IS Baylor. He's the Devaney of Baylor. He's the Tim Miles of Baylor. He's not going anywhere. The way he not only made Baylor relevant, but made them THE team of the Big12, means Baylor has went in a direction of massive investment in the guy. I dont see him ever leaving.

"Throw money at Coach X and see what happens" isn't a very effective strategy. Saban makes what Saban makes because he's proven he's a great coach. We can't just start throwing $5-7 million at a coach because what if after four years we're going 7-5? We'll be spending way too much in buyouts and contracts.

While Briles is a good coach, his philosophy is to outpace and outscore the opponent even if you give up 50 points. That's not going to fly at a place like Nebraska.

And from a personal standpoint, I think it's high time Nebraska move back towards a more downhill power game similar to what you see out of the Stanford's, Michigan State's and Wisconsin's of the world. We've gone near a decade running West Coast/Spread attacks and have virtually nothing in the trophy case to show for it. I just don't think we're the kind of place that is going to get the great athletes to run it and compete with teams nationally.

+1 Agree we need to get back to our identity - a power run team that can pass as needed. Don't need to be the option of old (doesn't hurt IMHO to throw that in - how many Ds are prepared for it nowadays) but rebuild the pipeline and reacquaint ourselves wt the fullback position and TEs who can block and catch.
