Josh Mitchell releases statement

Tough crowd.
Meh. It wasn't a one day, in the heat of the moment thing. It lasted several days. I always doubt the sincerity of press release apologies. If you are really sorry, you'll say it in person (something Bo never did, BTW).

That said... whatever. It's already forgotten as far as I'm concerned.

What do you expect? The things he kept putting out there was pretty strong. Some of the players were done after the first day...he kept going and going and going.

I appreciate this came out...it was a good move by him and the university, but you have to understand why people feel the way they do about him.

Well said, Josh.

It's not like some of us fans didn't blow a gasket when the announcement was made. I know I did. I'm happy with things now, especially after hearing the coach's interview this morning.

Not that my opinion matters to him but I had no problem with how he felt. I have a problem with how he handled it. I appreciate his efforts to rectify the situation but people don't say things like this unless they mean it.

Hopefully he can move forward and help the team in the Bowl game.

hes always spouted off in tweets...last year he spouted off about herbstreit not giving the respect they deserve...I hated it then. I hate people trash talking over twitter. He wasnt asked about his reaction from the firing....he gave it willingly on a tweet. I am not a mitchell fan and he basically solidified it. This seems to be fabricated for him. Thank you for your year at nebraska josh but I wont be sad to see you go.

If we are gonna assume the PR department wrote this apology can we also just assume someone stole his phone and sent out the nasty tweets in the first place?

Geebus folks, accept the apology and lay it to rest.

Well said, Josh. Grown man move right there.

It's not easy to admit when you're wrong.

Good job.

Emotions are a natural instinct to a situation. They are not logical. I mean, how many of us here initially melted down when Mike Riley was announced as head coach? I don't take much stock into what is said on Twitter for this reason, as it provides an outlet for quick, emotional statements to be let out in the moment.

Everybody- everybody!- makes mistakes. It takes balls to own up to them and admit he's wrong. There is no better quality in a person than humility.

Josh Mitchell has my full respect. He's definitely showing why he was selected as a captain.

@J_Mitch05 Emotions are just that, raw and real. You can't apologize for initial feelings. Keep moving fwd.
Weird that he starts the OP tweet with "I apologize" then this tweet (Or am I misreading that the quote actually came from Damon?).

My own commentary regardless of which tweeted it. I really hate the "can't apologize" mentality. Its a very Bo-ish attitude. Yes, you're entitled to your raw initial feelings. But if you express them in a d'bag negative manner, etiquette would dictate that, yes, you should apologize for your transgressions.

Why is everyone grasping onto his initial high spirited, disparaging remarks—but skeptical of this level headed apology a couple of days later? If a PR person had written this would they have written "This University & it's traditions"? "It's"? (If so, I give them props for cleverness. lol)
