Yeah. I'm getting to it. it's quite a bit. Somethin came up at work and i had to hit post.

But in general, he talked about the technical issues with Bo's defense causing way too much thinking and tentativeness. He doesnt like the perception that our defense is slow, cuz it isnt. But guys were not playing with any aggression or confidence. That this new guys ideal is to attack. penetrate, spill the runners outside, use the sideline as a 12th defender and guys in the back end can simply chase it down. The Gerry and Alexanders and the linebackers dont have to worry so much about technical fits as opposed to just getting there. Also about Bo's defense being too much about guys in the back level having to play from the guys in front of them, and when somethign happens and you get a Dlineman to linebacker overcompensating, you get the secondary way out of position. This is what happened in the Wisconsin game time and time again. he things the only downfall could be from a mental standpoint where the linebackers have to be ready to run and play with aggression. but that it wont be as difficult in this adjustment as it would be to go from an agressive style to a more passive style of D utilized under Bo.

I may have missed some things, and I may have got some thigns wrong. But generally this is what heard.

I heard most of this interview and it got me excited. This is what M Rose's dad was talking about in his tweets talking about "if I played for Nebraska" he would be excited to be turned loose to play aggressively.

Ive been sayin this all year. Our players are not slow. Banderas is not slow. he's an incredible athlete. But it's obvious he's thinkig too much. Esp that Miami game. The reaction time was way too slow. He was always a few steps behind. Now get these guys in a system where the dline is less technical and are just trying to disrupt, and the back 7 just need to get there, and you take away some thought process and allow a lot more aggression, and then the confidence comes.

 
Free your mind, free your feet. If you make the defense more simple then it is easier to scheme plays and formations against it, but you can be more aggressive and rely on players to make plays. The more complex the defense is the tougher it is to scheme for but you are handcuffing some of our players talent and causing some mental breakdowns. There will be some give and take. I bet we get better at defending the run, but the pass defense will take a step back. With that being said, in the big ten the trade off for being better against the run far outweighs the benefits of defending the pass. Bo's defense was designed to dominate pass happy teams/leagues. It really struggled against heavy sets. Was it bc of players, scheme, execution, etc... who knows, but I am excited to see what the new defense looks like.

This same conversation happened every offseason under Bo. You heard it in regards to stafford, and evans, and green, and banderras, etc. And at the same time you heard it every offseason in regards to the offense. "We're simplifying things". EVERY offseason. This is nothing new, we've all talked about it for years. But nothing ever changed, and the results were the same. Bo/Beck didn't know how to "dumb down" either the D or the O, and therefore we looked like a bunch of idiots out there a large percentage of the time.

I wont believe our offense is simplified whatsoever until we see us huddling up, and not having multiple receivers in literally the same place ten times a game. Im proud of myself this past fall camp for not buying into the simplifying propaganda. Became pretty obvious midseason that wasnt the case. Until we're huddling and either running in or signaling in a play to one guy so he can relate it to the other 10 guys and not trying to interpret 4 guys making signals from the sideline for 30 seconds, it's not simple. it's still a problem for us. Cuz the obvious miscommunication that is taking place at all levels on both sides of the ball are far too often and ridiculous.

i'm pretty sure you can attribute 5-6 of armstrong's interceptions to this mis-communication w/ his receivers - yet the end of the season looked exactly like the beginning.

 
You can tell watching the OSU tapes that they like a downhill, swarming, blitzing defense. They force a lot of short throws and timing routes. The problem at OSU was lack of lockdown corners--a talent gap--so they had a tendency to get burned. They had good run defense though. MR might have more success running this style at NU because of the talent upgrade. When you think about relegating Wisky, Minny, and Iowa to rely entirely on passing, I like our chances.

I think the philosophy will resemble McBride a lot more than Pelini or Cosgrove. It'll give us a way bigger advantage at home. There will be a lot more hitting rather than getting hit, and the best athletes will get on the field. Pelini's lack of blitzing killed me to watch.

i'm pretty sure you can attribute 5-6 of armstrong's interceptions to this mis-communication w/ his receivers - yet the end of the season looked exactly like the beginning.

or how we still had clap issues in the second half against Minnesota, 7 weeks after the fact.....
