Iowa up to #5 in the CFP rankings... can we beat Rutgers to set up a showdown?

If Langsdorf has truly learned lessons and features a power running game with Cross...then our offense should be able to salt away enough time to keep Rutgers from lighting us up when their offense takes the field.

But if we get into a track meet/basketball-on-grass type of game with Rutgers because the coaches mismanage the running game and play-calling...then we're going to be on the short end of that matchup.

Agree. If we 3 and out, D gets tired and Rutgers goes all air raid, we lose. This is another opportunity for the staff to see if they have learned anything from the week before. We come out with no power run game, this staff and NU are doomed to wallow in mediocrity.

Schedule is overall strong and unlike most of the teams it isn't heavily back loaded. ND's schedule gets relatively weaker though as the backloaded Big Ten and Big 12 catch up.

Have you looked at their schedule? It is anything but "strong." They didn't play a team with a winning record until the first week of October when they lost to Clemson. They beat Texass, Virginia, Georgia Tech, and UMass before losing to Clemson. They went on to get their best win of the year against Navy, beat a USC team that just fired their HC, Temple, and then Pitt. They finish with two bad games in 3-6 Wake Forrest and 1-7 BC before playing at Stanford.

Overall ND shouldn't be in the Top 10 with that schedule. It isn't as bad as Iowa's, but it isn't much better either. If they make the playoff, then this committee is a total failure.

But Texas beat OU, and GT beat FSU, and Pitt almost beat Iowa, and ... whatever other convoluted thought process that keeps Notre Dame in the Final 4 teams until Stanford beats them into the ground. Then they'll have to come up with new reasons why they should still be one of the top 4 teams.

ND has been consistently over ranked throughout the seasons since they won their last national championship in 1988.

My dream is that we win out and kick their asses. But, the team has done just enough for them to give Kirk a 5 year extension and a 3,000,000 raise.

Have you? Player effort has been the issue lately, a combination of player issues and coaching mistakes early on. Coaching and player effort won the game last Saturday nite.

There is a lot of variance because the methods are very different. Some are based on pure wins, others are simulation based, etcetera (some only give the public the basic framework but are not fully transparent in their method). I think anyone can see that none of these methods has Iowa and Notre Dame having similar rankings.
