2016 Game 3 “Expert” Picks: Oregon @ Nebraska

—————

John Conzano - The Oregonian

http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/john_canzano/index.ssf/2016/09/canzano_vlog_why_nebraska_beat.html

I don't love Nebraska's football team. Let's get that straight up front. They're flawed. They play stupid at times. They're not great. Sometimes, they don't even look good. But they're going to beat Oregon on Saturday playing at home.

Oregon's front seven on defense are ordinary. The defensive tackles in Brady Hoke's 4-3 scheme aren't play makers and the Huskers must have seen what we all saw vs. UC Davis and Virginia. I think Nebraska will have a lot of success running the ball, passing the ball... spiking the ball in the end zone, etc. I don't see fewer than 40 points for Nebraska's offense vs. Oregon... and one more thing... the Huskers feel like they're playing for so much more than the Ducks.

Nebraska 44 - Oregon 30

It sure feels like a monumental game to me. Maybe the national guys don't feel that way. But, I'm not concerned about that. Win this game and they start taking notice. This would even feel like a bigger game if I didn't have a friggen family wedding starting at 2:30 on Saturday.

PS.....the Oregonian guy sure doesn't like their team. Wow....
You know what you have to do.....

You must disown them...

They broke a rule.
It's just so damn dumb. All they would have to do is move the wedding to 1:00 and it wouldn't be as big of deal. But start at the same time????

I told my wife I'll go to the wedding but then I'm walking down the street to finish watching the game. She started saying..."hey....family is more important than a ga...." I stopped her and told her again...I'm going to watch the rest of hte game.

I am not sure how the rest of you feel about the upcoming game but I feel tension. I have not felt this way for many years and I think it is because I would really love for the Huskers to get that Monkey off their back and start building their reputation for being a contender once again. We all have suffered immensely through the years with getting our hopes up, only to get them crushed.

To me, regardless of how high Oregon is ranked or not, I feel this is one of those statement games that we "need" to win. Win it, and we are on the right path. Lose it, and while it won't change our seasonal goals, it cements the same old feeling that we have a long ways to go.
Absolutely agree. This one let's us know if we're headed in the right direction or if we're still treading water/drowning. Huge game.
This is a huge game. But, I don't like putting that much pressure on one game to determine the direction of the program. I'll decide that as more of the season unfolds.

^^Agreed. I personally think we're gonna win. But if we don't, I think Riley and staff will do a better job of keeping guys focused than some have in the past. Remember how we pretty much folded after the USC home loss under Callahan? It was like we put all our eggs in that one basket back in 2007. When we lost it seems like our players gave up. We didn't play a decent game the rest of the year.

I left my cousin's wedding a few years back to watch the game. She should have known better.

I will agree with that if we play well and coach smart. If we lose on knuckleheaded bs like last year, then I think it's very indicative of the direction.

I don't get that sentiment? IMO, Pressure is what causes people to reach beyond status quo!

Some, use the Eggs in one basket mentality to get themselves prepared for a loss!

By the way, none of us fans are putting pressure on this team. If they are serious competitors, they have been feeling the build up since the last second ticked off the clock in the Wyoming game!.

The difference is, what they do before the game versus after the game. All teams get keyed up for big games. Great teams don't let a loss ruin the rest of their season. Remember 2007? That team folded like a rusty lawn chair after the USC game. That's all I'm saying.

Odd, you read Oregon's bulletin boards...they don't just think they're going to win...they think they are going to blow the doors off of us here. Almost every person on those forums have the ducks winning by 14 or more...
They're a "new" fanbase in that that most of them only started following the Ducks in the last decade or so. Also, they have zero respect for Riley and crew. Oh sure, they think he's a nice guy, but they have no regard for his coaching prowess.

So what? How many people on Huskerboard predicted us to lose to UCLA in 2012 and 2013, or Virginia Tech in 2008 and 2009?

Fanbases think their team is better than it is, and that the teams they're playing are worse than they are. That's not unique to Oregon, and Nebraska is not exempt.

I get it NUance.
I was not pointing any fingers at all. It's just something I have noticed more and more as the years have gone by. Almost a guaranteed comment when we have gone into tough games. To me, I think it is almost a way for that particular fan to prepare themselves for their own emotional let down, should we lose.

The stadium needs to be rocking each possession Oregon has the ball. If the fans can create one miscue, or one bad play decision for Oregon, that might be the difference in the final score.

We need to unsettle Prukop and his go to guys.

I am tired of saying this but "Let's get this done"!

Do your part to bring the crowd to a frenzy in your section guys/gals.

I can assure you I will be pumping up anyone and everyone wearing red!
I would imagine that the student section will be crazy packed and rocking. What time do they get in for the game?
If I remember correctly, student tix are ga, so they usually are standing in line waiting to get in. Stadium opens 90 minutes before kick. Student section is usually filled up right away to get the good seats.

The student section is open far before the rest of the stadium is. I wanna say 3 hours before kickoff they let students in.
