Do we ever blitz?

Huskerlad

Walk-on
Does anyone know the stats on how often the Huskers defense blitzes? Under Riley, it has to be an extremely low percentage, including tonight's Ohio State pasting. It seems like under Osborne, the defense stunted and blitzed almost all the time, especially during the National Championship years of the 90's.

We blitzed a lot in past games. A few times today, doesn't seem as much as we usually do. But we certainly blitz a lot more than Bo ever did

We blitz early, then we became extremely timid and backed of the rest of the night. I think that killed us. Penn St. Killed tOSU with 5 man rushes. Banker turned chicken when we went down a couple scores. That was when we needed to cranknk it up the most.

We have to blitz because our DL can't put pressure on the QB on their own. The problem with that is that our LB's are over agressive and overrun plays (like Wisky's first TD last week by MRI) or they run by the play by trying to arm tackle instead of tackling with good form and dicipline.

If we blitz it exposes our weak secondary or the middle of the field short passes that seem to be wide open every single time.

I don't know, it seems like no matter how many defensive backs we have in the backfield, an accurate passer is still going to connect with the receivers. Also, four, slow linemen can't really chase down an elusive, running quarterback too.

We really do seem to get cut back on an awfull lot.

We blitzed quite a bit Ohio state just played maybe their best game of the season imo
Ohio State seemed bored more than anything over the last month. It bit them in the butt in Happy Valley, and after being asked what is wrong with them by everyone on campus/media, they played their first marquee primetime game at home. Well, we got their full attention instead of the sleepwalking version that has been going through the motions over the past month.

Ohio State is going to run this conference for the foreseeable future unless a lot of these young guys go pro early. We are at least three good recruiting classes from having the talent/depth to realistically go into a place like the horseshoe and expect to compete with having a good chance at leaving with a win. This is more proof for the "walk on" people that this is what you get when you are forced to play a lot of them against a championship caliber team and it isn't pretty.

Don't be surprised if Ohio State beats the hell out of Mechicken too the last weekend of the regular season. They have also played a very easy schedule where they have only played two teams (Rutgers and MSU) on the road so far. They play at Iowa next weekend who has fallen off the map. At home vs Indiana then at Ohio State.
