I'm so sick of people slamming our players like this. It's not a coach from two years ago's fault that this staff won't play young guys or prepare their guy's adequately for games like this or grind games out in an effort to manufacture wins rather than just running what the card says they should.

Look at the recruiting rankings. Look at the games this season against weak competition.

Then try to make a straight faced argument that this is about talent wearing helmets rather than the talent wearing headsets.

If you paid attention, I've not yet called for firing this staff. Not once. I said that if they finish 9-3 or better, I would accept that as a solid season - granted, I didn't see OSU ending coming like that, but bad losses happen.

My point is that this roster has enough talent that it should have kicked some Indiana type teams in the face and played OSU tougher. The fact that they haven't is 100% on this coaching staff.

One final point: I've actually said, don't fire a coach just because you hope you can land better. But, if you know you can land better, you should absolute fire the coach.

really? How many players on that OSU team would be starting here if they were here? I'm willing to say the only husker players that would play on OSUs roster would be Gates, Carter, and Westy. Gerry would see some PT but Hooker is the real deal. We were at the pretty strong talent/speed disadvantage, and that makes coaching difficult. We flopped out there and alot of that is on the coaches, but we don't win that game last night regardless of how prepared we were. If we played them last week it may be a different story, but OSU played a pretty great game besides how good we made them look
 
Have some of these guys seen how many great walk ons we've had at this program? And now if you're a walk on you cant compete?

That was a long time ago. Times have changed man, with the collection of talent some other teams have, you can't win with a team of walk ons. We've had some great walk ons, and we will in the future, but you can't rely on those guys to win you the games. Also not every walk on is great, some kind of suck and it's not because the coaches couldn't bring them along, they just don't have the same kind of talent as the 5 star recruits. I never said we shouldn't have walk ons contribute, but when 60% of your line is walk ons and every player on the defense is a 4 or 5 star recruit, you are at a disadvantage.
 
It's amusing to me how people are like "throw away the recipe of that worked because it can't work anymore and instead use a recipe that's never worked ever."

It's also false narrative that NU won 20-30 years ago with a team of walk-ons. I understand the walk on program at NU has been very key to NU's success, but that's when those players are sprinkled in with uber-talented scholarship players and a system that allows for walk-ons to excel.

please read ColoradoHusks post. No one is saying we should get rid of walk ons, but we need the top end recruits too

what scholly players are sitting behind walk ons that aren't redshirted right now? It's too late to burn the shirts, we gotta live with what we have, but what we have isn't great and that's a fact

Remember man, walk on programs have changed throughout the nation. Even Nebraska, which of course had the best in the business. There are what, about 128 FBS schools? The explosion of hundreds of television channels and social media attention means that a kid can be on TV, get immediate playing time and a free ride as opposed to the dream of a scholarship. Look at the state of Texas alone. UT, A&M, TCU, TT, Baylor. Unless he grew up in the state is not as nostalgic about wearing Husker red as we would think. There are awesome walk ons still out there and gems who develop after high school, but the days of having the type of program we used to have are over.

I don't understand why Decker, Barnett, and other o-linemen aren't playing. I understand that players have a responsibility to develop their skills, but where is this awesome coaching that enables them to develop.

Also, I understand that they want the true freshman to redshirt and build for the future, but is looking 3-4 years ahead worth throwing a way a potential strong season with a ton of senior leaders at the skill position? When these guys were recruited, we heard "these guys have potential to play right away" but when they aren't it's ok because the coaches want to save them for the future? Are the coaches going to stop recruiting o-linemen just because they have 4 stud guys that are redshirting this year? I think the coaches should be comfortable that they should be able to recruit their replacements in the next 2-3 years.

 
Ohio St. played great. We played bad. Sh#t happens. We need to get more talent to compete with the big boys. We need to recruit till the cows come home!
