McKewon: Huskers can’t let shutout deter them in recruiting

If Tommy being out 3 games in 2016 hurt our running game by 500-1000 yards then we are not going to be a better running team without a mobile QB.

Maybe Michigan State but not a lot in common with the others. Those teams are all running teams first and foremost.

and so are we. Look at the stats not off perception. We run nearly an identical scheme to Wisconsin, maybe because Chryst learned what he knows from Riley

Edit: ok if you look at the stats you will find Wisconsin does run significantly more but that bring said it doesn't change that our schemes our very similar

O line will seem much improved next year. You will have 3 backs that have proven they can create a little for themselves instead of going down on first contact. You will have a QB who will get rid of the ball when he is supposed to instead of waiting for the guy on the go route to come open and then throw it anyway even if he is triple teamed. It will be ok. Will they push people around? Probably not but statistically they will look better.

We would be more of a running team also if we weren't playing with upperclassmen from Bo and without upperclassmen that left the team. We will start to see upperclassmen from MR in 2017 and 2018. Let's see when these guys take over how much we run the ball. I think some of these top receivers that have decided to go elsewhere are doing so because they know we will not go 4 or 5 wide at receiver the entire game.

This is a whole new level of mental gymnastics. We don't want Bo's recruits that are still here, we want Bo's recruits that left. Yeah, that would make all the difference.

And you're going to be pretty disappointed if you think you're going to see upperclassmen recruited by Riley this year.

And despite the fact that we've been telling every receiver recruit that we're going to pass the ball more, we're secretly going to be running the ball more. So they don't believe the coaches and that's why we can't recruit them.

Maybe. Maybe not.

One alternative perspective is that now most of the schemes and packages will, presumably, work more in sync. The offense will no longer be a "balanced" attack operated by a below average thrower, presumably. Defenses will have to respect the pass game more, presumably.

Clearly, a lot of presumptions, but I think one could easily argue that running a balanced attack by a rushing quarterback probably wasn't the most ideal situation.

I'm just saying if you have a QB that gets the ball out quickly and complete over 60% of his passes that helps the O-line. If you aren't giving up sacks it makes the line look better. If you have a QB who recognizes when a blitz is coming and where to go with the ball instead of chucking one up that leads to an INT it makes the line look better. If you have a running back that can take a little contact and still have a good ypc it makes the line look better. Is the line all that much better? Probably not but they will "Look" better on paper. Maybe I'm not conveying this well. Anyway hopefully the line is just better next year

Mark my words we will be a better rushing team next yr. We won't have to give rushes to our worst RB. I can't say his name or I might get suspended for two weeks. It will be heads and toes better next year

So our worst RB was the one who's worst YPC for a game was almost always higher than the next guy's highest YPC?

Can we stop with the myth that a passing QB will open up the run game? Either the team will be able to run the ball or it won't be able to run the ball.

 
Like to point out with the '13 and '14 rushing totals that having a great back like Abdullah can mask deficiencies along the o-line. Definitely not saying that the line play this year was better than than those years, but the inflated rushing numbers can be pointed to Abdullah as much as the o-line play.

The RBs on this years team were all solid, but none of them were Abdullah.
