Good job locking the only discussion on sexism

I still don't have any impression that an attempt will be made to moderate any future topic on sexism other than by locking it out of hand if the mods get a few PM's about it. And God forbid if people are asked to send reports.

 
How in the actual hell is teach back after only three days' suspension?

His trolling is far worse than Making Chimichangas' and that guy got months for his violations.

Mods, if you want to convince people that sexism is not tolerated here, how about an outward demonstration of that?  teach being back so soon sends exactly the opposite message.

 
Similar to why the thread was locked, teach's suspension was based on behavior in the thread. He had a mix of contributing, being tongue in cheek or flat out trolling. So far as I can tell, his general opinion in that thread was that all genders can be talked down to and that 'mansplaining' was disingenuous because it's not a 'gender thing' but just a 'thing' that people do.

If you interpreted teach's comments as sexist and worthy of a ban, then you'd better interpret B.B.'s in the same way. Yet I don't see anyone saying B.B. should be suspended/banned for what he said (unless I've missed it). The difference was (in my opinion), as disagreeable as some of B.B.'s opinions may have been to others, he did a far better job of actually staying on topic.

But, unless I misinterpreted you knapp (and forgive me if I did), you were talking about him as it relates to sexism and sending a message about sexism. His comments in the thread and his general opinion (from what I can gather) were similar to B.B.'s. I'm not sure if they're technically 'sexist' or if they were just misguided about gender issues? Maybe some would say don't bother tap dancing around it and just call it sexism

Either way, his body of work is an inclusive but not all together related topic to sexism, at least in my opinion.

 
Making Chimichangas wasn't suspended for months for the last post he made, or the posts in the last thread he participated in. He was suspended for months because his "body of work," which has been a standard of gauging intent around here for as long as I can remember, showed that he wouldn't modify his behavior without something stronger. 

Or, if MC's body of work wasn't a determining factor in the length of his suspension and it was ONLY for the last post/few posts he made, the same standard should be applied to teach - or to BB, if that's necessary. 

 
I doubt that's what he meant. But you didn't seem to notice teach is a troll until recently. It's not always the actual posts that matter but who he stalks and for what purpose.

Regardless, you asked him to stop posting in that thread, he ignored you and did his schtick again. I can almost guarantee if he had actually done what you asked the topic wouldn't have been pushed to the point of locking it.

The topic should have been moderated, not locked. I would have been ok with teach not getting suspended had the topic not been locked. I never once during this most-f'd up experience I've ever had on a forum thought that anyone was out to get me but to let him back immediately makes that slap in the face feel like a bulldozer.

If it doesn't go beyond teach's trolling, then does one guy have the power to turn the entire thread into a cluster? To create the impression that there was "bad behavior" all around? Because his long, long history of gender issues-baiting aside, all there was was a spirited but ultimately respectful discussion between BB, Moiraine, Landlord, and myself, as I think all of us would individually attest to. I seem to recall the final posts of the night being BB & I thanking each other for the discussion.

Or, are there more posts or behaviors deserving of reprobation that haven't been mentioned yet specifically? If that thread was full of this, then given that the evidence is there, please do just highlight it. From the public comments here, it seems that these points aren't plain to quite a few people.

So...you still don’t understand yourself yet, do you?  You have the gender problems.  I treat all people/posters the same.  You don’t.  You know you don’t. 

You think something is “trolling” when you get called out.  But then you turn right around and make comments like “I hope this phase you are in passes”...

treat each person/poster the same.  Like most of us do.  Moraine doesn’t need your help, stop trying to be the knight in shining posts...stop trying to talk down to people.  Stop hating on most of the male posters.

i don’t troll you, I don’t need to troll you because you think you get trolled all the time.  There is a huge difference.  

 
One thing I want to chime in about with regards to BB: he was there for honest discussion. He's not, for example, on a cynical crusade to prove some dearly-held but deplorable gender views (see: Stephen Miller). To the contrary.

Whenever we do disagree, we're happy to talk about it openly and earnestly. These are some of the most productive and fruitful discussions in P&R and I've had them with many members across the spectrum with whom I disagree on one topic or another -- RedDenver, BB, BRB, JJ, to name a few. I appreciate all of these folks in abundance for it and I hope it's clear to everyone reading that among most of us, there's a mutual respect persists through all of our exchanges of differing viewpoints.
