My guess is being a Wisconsin kid, he felt pressure to stay home and the style of play does not fit him.   He had a cousin or a friend that played for Fred at Iowa St. and he liked the style.

That explains why he's transferring.  But...why middle of the season?

From a Wisconsin paper - King announced his decision to depart the Wisconsin basketball program citing multiple reasons for his departure, mainly that Wisconsin did not feel like ‘the right fit’ for him as a student-athlete. After that, news broke that King felt uncomfortable in his situation after strength coach Erik Helland used a racial epithet while telling a story of his NBA days to a few of the Wisconsin basketball team members.

Eventually Fred will want 5 guys between 6’4-6’9 on the floor. Can run, switch everything on D, and usually gives you an athleticism advantage.

Half have a starter 6-10+.  Only Gonzaga has two.

Three have one 6-9 guy. 

Creighton only has a 6-7 guy.

If we can get a couple 6-8/6-9 guys, we'll be in good shape.

Whole lotta guards next season. We will be a lot better and the style of play will be too. Depends how Fred wants to play Stevenson. He can play a lot of positions - will be hard to have Teddy off the bench so he may start.
