Memorial Stadium Turf Being Replaced

Bad move.

Joined OU, Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Ohio State (future), Penn St, A&M, Michigan State, LSU, etc .... all beautiful natural grass in home venues.  Cooler, softer, less injuries, nice odor, no nasty chemicals (recycle tires), etc

What is the chance that NU has a contract with the field turf company that through x amount of years, stating that it will stay with field turf with the agreement it will be replaced a certain amount of time during the duration of the contract?

FieldTurf salesman

TA said they considered grass, but it was much more expensive considering maintenance, etc.

Are you saying our games aren't currently hard on the eyes?
Hard on eyes, mind, soul, spirit, .. :cry

Well there is always next year and Husker fans are typically optimistic until we aren’t (about the 2nd week in October)

I’m hoping the staff changes and the infusion of new talent will get us back to being respected once again

Real grass; Long term is cheaper than FieldTurf.  Every 7 years, replace fake turf.  And FieldTurf disposal, $$$, because recycle tires.  Keep in mind, replaced car tires was surcharge cost (special disposal, classified toxic materials).

Maintenance?  I will gladly volunteer free of charge .... mowing, spread fertilizer, stripes, etc

Make sense .....

  • Elite teams: natural grass venues
  • Non-elite teams (like Huskers):  Fake turf

;) ;) ;)
Ohio State, Michigan, and Notre Dame have field-turf style fields.  I know Michigan State (which I don't consider an elite team) is a school in the north which has real grass, but they are an outlier.  The grass vs. turf line of demarcation is usually colder vs. warmer climates.

Ohio State, 2023 or 2024 off-season will convert to natural grass.  Michigan, poor drainage because actually Big Hole instead of Big House.  Mostly submerged.

And NFL stadiums, Arrowhead, Mile High, Soldier Field, Lambeau, etc .... real grass (cold climates)
