Craig was the starting running back for the first 3 years going for 1,030 yards and 6 touchdowns on only 143 carries averageing 4.6 yards per carry in '81 He got banged up in 82 and Rosier ended up being so great that Craig moved to Fullback.

San Francisco started him at Fullback for 4 years where he was basically guaranteed to have 800 yards on the ground, 500 in the air and just shy of 20 tds. He moved to Running Back when the 49ers drafted the best Fullback of all time, and another Husker Legend Tom Rathman. Craig ended his career in the NFL hall of fame with over 8 thousand yards on the ground in just 2000 carries. He also had 5 thousand receiving yards on 566 catches.

He averaged 12.1 yards per carry and 29.8 yards per catch. In the NFL. And he moved to Fullback because Rozier was just superhuman. 

I also misspoke earlier. I didn't know this, Rozier ws drafted #2 in the NFL draft as well as #1 in the USFL. The only reason he wasn't #1 is San Francisco had Roger Craig and took Steve Young instead. I thought he was just bought out of the USFL as a free agent. It's to bad his best years were in a dead league. He was a 2x pro bowler in the NFL but he was nearing the end of his career when he went to the NFL and he only ended up with around 5 thousand  yards and only hit 1,000 in one of the 6 years in the league.

great teams he played on, great O-line, defense was killer, Osborne, etc etc….that guy Green,  just glided and decimated other teams as a college RB. Perfect player in a perfect time, what beauty he brought the Red Stripe and the N

I was young with Rozier.  I watched every single game in the 90's.

Lawrence Phillips was the best RB in Nebraska's history.  And Frazier was the best QB.  

You can't convince me otherwise.

But, I'm also in the minority that thinks Rex Burkhead was #2 on the list.  Because, in four years - he never disappointed getting that yard.  

4th and 2 - get's hit in the backfield - 3 yards deep - breaks the tackle, ducks, turns, bends, stretches and gains 3 yards.  Drive continues. That's a real back IMHO

Rex was UNBELIEVABLE at turning a two yard loss into a four yard gain.  Time and time and time again.

 
I find it almost impossible to compare backs like Rex and Ameer to Phillps, Rozier, Craig and Green.  Totally different eras of Husker football.

When players from the past would get the ball and make one guy miss 10 yards down the field then turn on the burners for a TD, imagine what Rex and Ameer could have done with that.  ESPECIALLY Ameer.  I still think Phillips is the best back ever for Nebraska simply because he had that ability PLUS the power.  I especially would have loved to have seen Ameer playing on a Nebraska team in the 90s or early 80s.  He would have been an even bigger star than what he was.

Am I on drugs or did I miss something.  Steve Young was drafted by the buccaneers not the 49ers. He played 2 years in Tampa

He played for the Bucs, but that was after he initially played in the USFL for the LA Express  chuckleshuffle  

$40 mil deal over 40 years (contract was something like that)

I loved watching LP run too and he is still one of my favorite's as well.

Rozier is the #1 all time leading rusher at Nebraska along with winning the Heisman. 

LP ranks 11th.

I mean ... I kind of think it should be expected that Rozier ran for more yards as he had 50% more attempts than Phillips.

Tough to judge what might have been.  Phillips has the most rushing yards by a Sophomore at Nebraska and it's not even close.  No one will ever be able to convince me that he wasn't going to win the Heisman in 1995 - through two games he had 11 TDs and 359 yards rushing, averaging over 10 yards per carry.  

Rozier (307) and Phillips (322) needed a very similar number of attempts to reach 2000 yards - Only Green (295) and Calvin Jones (262) were faster.

The crazy thing to me about the stats you posted is how high up the list Adbullah and Helu are, given how much of their careers overlapped with Rex Burkhead (#6) and Taylor Martinez (#9).

Having watched both backs play I'm well aware of both Rozier's dominating seasons and LP's career as well and some of the great games and runs that he had.  Still going with Rozier.  I'm not hear  to 'debate' who our best running back was as I've already mentioned before that I love a lot of them. 

Heck I still love me some I.M. Hipp.  Doug freakin' DuBose for sure.  At the end of the day for me though it's Rozier.

I'm not going to lie.  On the field, I think Lawrence Phillips scared the s#!t out defenses. 

And their bench.  And their coaches watching from the sidelines.  And the referees in the game.

But with So many great backs, including Ahman Green and Rozier and Ameer,  I love me some Rex and Helu, and TMagic in space.

You're correct. No wonder I didn't know this or remember it. The biography I got that from was talking about the supplemental draft and didn't curate itself very well. Sorry. I completely blanked about Young, I was too busy trying to figure out how I forgot Rozier was drafted in the NFL. I should have realized something about it was wrong when it said he was Drafted after Young who didn't need a Runningback because of Craig, and ahead of Reggie White. My fault not double checking and assuming that a bio of the man was correct and I was just an idiot who couldn't remember it. Thanks for noticing.
