Should we fire Satterfield??

Satt is the OC, making top ten pay, so obviously the buck stops with him.

But who really is our best Offensive Coach?

Barthel has done nothing for the RBs.

Gavin has done nothing for the WRs.

Satt is clueless.
I’m not sure what Glen Thomas is contributing.

That leaves Donovan Raiola. I feel like the OL hasn’t been terrible…not elite, I wouldn’t even say good, but … serviceable? I’d say so. One could seemingly make the argument that Donovan Raiola is currently the best Offensive Coach we have.

Huh. Our best current offensive coach… was hired by Frost.

In today's world - progress and success as defined by wins is what only matters.  The more wins, the more NIL money, the more portal talent comes your way  -- which leads hopefully to more wins and the repeating of the cycle
Not enough people understand this like you are pointing out.  Gone are the days of having a 3-5 year build out process.   The portal and NIL changed all that.

It may still take a few years to develop a systemwide culture, but turning a program around doesn’t have to take long at all.  Just look around to other programs.  Sustaining it across multiple HC’s is the hard part.   Too many of our fans have bought into the fallacy it takes years and years to develop.

Sorry, but college football has entered the win now philosophy the NFL has.   Nebraska has everything it needs to be a top 5 Big10 team year in and year out and once in awhile compete for a national championship.  The recruiting base isn’t as big, but NIL and portal helps mitigate that.

Agreed.  Nebraska has provided all of the resources - facilities, funding, and perhaps the most neglected is the loyal fan base which pays the bills (along wt 'profit sharing' from the B1G).  NIL and portal has and will help with the recruiting base issue.  Time we act like the blueblood we are.  I am still supporting Rhule - but the loyalty to certain assistants has to end.  It is a big man's game - and the assistant coaches need to see that as well - put up or get fired.   But there is this one obstacle  - coaches contracts which are weighed in their favor.  Fire someone or fire the HC and they can get the Scott Frost golden parachute treatment.  Where is the accountability in that??   Why shake the boat as a coach - you win either way - get paid regardless of success or no success.    I think Rhule is a good motivator and  is a good spokesperson for the U.  Not sure he is a good manager of his staff yet.  I still shake my head at having 26 year old WR coach. If the money is there, and it is, pay for the experienced guy.  Why did he settle for a meh OC?  Why was he not aggressive in getting former KSU Snider (the younger) for ST who was proven a proven and successful ST coach??

I absolutely think you have to fire Satterfield now. As everyone has pointed out, this isn't the 80s or 90s where this stuff might take some time to develop. Further, even if it did, what development have we seen? If anything the offense has regressed! He has no history of producing results. He has no current track record of producing results. If not this season, barring a massive turnaround in offensive production, he needs to go at the end of the season. And if that doesn't happen, yeah, it's time to seriously question Rhule as the HC here. People can say "patience" all they want, the reality is that there is nothing to suggest patience is deserved here.

i will take rhule more serious if he fires him this year... if not then it seems clear he is just another frost/riley that just wants to get paid and play golf with his buddies.

Well, our whole rb room isn’t injured like last year.

Malachi Coleman came on late for us last year and hasn’t even sniffed the field. Neyor was always a risk post knee injury, I think banks is being heavily under utilized.

I know he a freshman but I’d like to see more of Carter Nelson. The concept of redshirting is a thing of the past for a guy like this. If the upper class men were playing well I’d get it- but from what I see on the field I don’t know why we’re not getting more game action for some of the younger guys.

Fidone is healthier- the lone bright spot yesterday was how we utilized him- much better use of his potential then the questionable quick screens and behind LOS throws we had been using him for

Our RB room is healthier but is still the same guys.

It kind of made sense to redshirt Coleman because he missed a lot of the off season with an injury.  But I've seen nothing from Neyor or Banks to indicate they are going to be helpful.  If Banks is being underutilized it's only because he can't get open.

I agree that Nelson could be used more.  I think our decision making on both RBs and WRs has been pretty suspect.

Maybe Fidone is healthier.  He doesn't look like a five-star to me.  But we need to use him much more like we did Saturday.

It's not going to happen mid-season.  If it's going to happen at all, we may have to sacrifice a bowl game to get rid of him.
One of my fears right now is eking out another win or two and Rhule is able to double down on his terrible staff.

Banks and Neyor were targeted 12 times in the Indiana game.  They caught 4.  Call plays that work!@!@#

Our starting RB was 4th string at Oregon last year, and gets tackled by the grass more than anyone else on the team and fumbled in the redzone again.  Call plays that WORK1@#$!

Riley is a pipe dream and will probably shred us Nov 16.  Utah fans are down on Ludwig.

Somone break down Cramsey vs Willy Korn.  Both these guys seem realistic to take next step.
Wow Ludwig’s stock plummeted.  I dunno maybe get a guy like him to give us some consultation?  Didn’t Texas do this with Paul Chryst?  Need a fresh set of eyes on our offense and how to improve the running game.

Yes, we seem to do that often.  Fire this guy fire that guy... meanwhile it's poor O-Line blocking or a D guy playing his man as if it's a zone just made to be run through, some LB not following the ball and buying the fake, etc.  We see it unfold on the field and maybe do not consider that the well-coached assignments were not carried out, plain and simple.

But then there's Foley.   🤨
Amen to that!

I would agree and I think most would assume year 2 things would improve. Better players, staff continuity, year 2 fit everyone including the strength program. New WRs, new RB, new OL, New QB. Freshman contributors in Barney and Nelson at your disposal. Yet our offensive production is somehow worse in big 10 play.

I didn’t realize how pathetic it was until I saw a guy post on the rivals page. Through the first 5 games last year in big 10 play we averaged 18.4 points a game. So far this year through 4 games and Ohio state this weekend so it prob goes down is 18.25.

Sorry but the offensive staff has gotta be looked at in off season
Every coach needs to be reviewed during & after the season.

It has to be hard because a lot of times the staff are friends.  It is different from most jobs.  Plus unless something is glaring, they all think they are doing the right things.

It isn't like the WR is running drills and yelling "Okay, be sure to drop the ball, don't catch it"

So then your only real "eval" is games.  Which is easy for us fans but for the HC it must be hard.

I did have an asst coach tell me I called a "stupid play" one time, right before half, it resulted in a interception.  I had to talk to him right then and there.  It was awkward.

One of my fears right now is eking out another win or two and Rhule is able to double down on his terrible staff.
Same.   Too easy for him to say “well look we are making progress and won 2 more games than last year and got young guys some playing time”.
