Um, buy itUm, what QB do we have that's as good as Ewers that should have been playing over Raiola?
Um, buy it
If you think we should have bought a QB to start over Raiola, why are you using Texas as an example when they didn't bring in Ewers from another team this year? Just because some teams have done that successfully doesn't mean it always works.
There was one in the Rutgers game that the Blackshirts bailed him out from with a goal line stand IIRC.I'm trying to think of the really bad interceptions he threw. One in the UCLA game sticks out...
Bought a junior or senior while Raiola matured. It’s was lot of hope and history to place on the shoulders of a freshman. If you think we should have bought a QB to start over Raiola, why are you using Texas as an example when they didn't bring in Ewers from another team this year? Because we didn’t have an older experienced QB on staff. It’s almost like they’re a family of hall of fame QB’s. But what do they know?Texas also didn't make that decision. The manning family wanted him to sit as long as he could and learn.
Or if neyor would’ve just made the easiest catch and run of his career against Iowa for 60+ yard TD and somehow didn’t get a single finger on itSo where would he stand if the two Neyor had ripped out of his hands in the endzone were flipped? That's not on the QB in my opinion.
I think it's fine to have that opinion, but you directly cited Texas as if this is what they had done and they didn't. They had an incumbent pre-season Heisman candidate. And like you (correctly) suggested, DR's ability to come in and play immediately probably had a huge impact on his recruitment. The comparison should be to a university that recruited a D1-ready highly ranked QB but also brought in a Jr/Sr to start for a season, not Texas.Bought a junior or senior while Raiola matured.
Money does not fix everything, but it can buy you as good of QB as need or want. Casey was a budget rental QB. And we got exactly what we paid for with him. I wish we’d kept him the 2nd year instead of Sims.I think it's fine to have that opinion, but you directly cited Texas as if this is what they had done and they didn't. We also need to dispense with the idea that 'money will fix all your problems.' We all thought this fan base was getting milked dry before NIL, it's even worse now. Nebraska doesn't have endless coffers and it's just one factor in any kind of recruitment, and it doesn't guarantee success. They bought Casey Thompson and won four games.
I do get and appreciate your over-arching opinion, though. I too generally prefer QB's (whether it's in college or the NFL) to sit for a year or two before starting, but that's just not the reality anymore, and again we're probably not enjoying DR on the roster if they had tried to do that... but that's just my guess.

This is kind of the whole Bo passed over Joe, Riley passed over Joe and Frost passed over Joe.....Joe went to a LSU team loaded with NFL front to back on both sides of the ball. Who would he have at at NU during those years? Same with QB "X" that we could pay to play at NU. We are lacking in a lot of positions IMHO. Not a DR apologist, he throws YOLO's over 10+ yards, waits for what he wants and not what he has, but is a very good QB for a true freshman. No QB would make our OL, running game, receivers or ST play better. A year with a better OC, offensive scheme/identity and DR looks better. An actual receiver coach and better receivers and DR looks better. Rhule and Co are hitting the portal hard. #1 portal class to date in the B1G. Still need more dudes..But they are getting some potential upgrades for sure.Um, buy it
I agree with all of this. But it seems that there’s a few that take honest discussions of DR’s performance as personal. As if he’s somehow above discussion or criticism. If he wants to be “the” guy, he has to be held accountable too. And I think he is fine with it, at least appears so anyway. This is kind of the whole Bo passed over Joe, Riley passed over Joe and Frost passed over Joe.....Joe went to a LSU team loaded with NFL front to back on both sides of the ball.
