They do a great job as of now making "videos" that do not seem like commercials but they are in fact commercials. I will fall for those at times. It is how I ended up with a Clark W Griswold Blackhawks Jersey. I do not regret it one bit!!!I sort of get how it seems to make sense for advertisers and the reach aspect. What I can’t comprehend is how that turns into millions of dollars for the social media content generators. I don’t see anyway the advertisers are recouping those kinds of expenditures…but I’m not in advertising or marketing. My company literally spends $0 on advertising and I’ve got all the business I need.
My son plays, league of legends (I think), online and he watches games by top players who allegedly make big bucks doing it. At my son’s request I signed up on Twitch to follow him because, like you said, he could start making money at around 50ish followers. Pretty sure that has not materialized.
"Mr. Best" on YouTube (I guess) used to beg for followers, he has millions now and makes 600 Million a year.
If I remember correctly, I had about 6 followers and I think 4 of them were bots.
Before you ask, I do not make 600 million a year.
