2025 Fall Camp Notes - Running Backs

Ives continues to be in a yellow (limited, hamstring) jersey in practice.

Parker still not suited up.

I didn't have much to do Sunday so I started watching the games from last year in the condensed 60min versions. I still don't comprehend how EJ didn't get more carries. He would have a nice series and then not be heard from again. I also didn't like how every time they got in the redzone they put in Dowdell. EJ or RJ would do all the work to get down there and then Dowdell gets to run it in from 5 yards out. Let they guy who got you there get a crack at it from short yardage.

Genatone keeps getting mentions as an option for a short-yardage guy. Likely on a lot of special teams as well.

i remeber satterfield doing that. I can't remeber if holgerson did it as well. I do agree with you, let the back that put them in that position finish it.

I don't think Holgorsen did it as much. I know Dowdell's carries not in the redzone went down when Holgorsen took over tho.

Not sure that's quite right. He was up-and-down as far as number of carries during the year. But he averaged about 10 carries per game under Holgorsen, which was about his average for the year. And he scored 4 TDs in the last three games (3 against Wisconsin), which was a third of his TDs for the year. So it seems like it was pretty similar.

When did Holgorsen take over play calling? Was it USC or was Wisc the first game? I think I ended my recap of the season at USC so I was just trying to remember the end of the year. Didn't score much vs Iowa and I thought I remembered the smaller guys getting chances vs Boston College.

USC, and IIRC Dowdell wasn't with the team for the bowl game. Ives had a TD in the goal line role, and Rahmir got one as well along with the 4th and short conversion.
