Sellout Streak in 2025

Just like some people believe this is half empty...

Just like some people put their fingers in their ears and say "La La La" when they hear about scanned ticket totals in the sub 60K range and think it's legit. Like I said you can believe in Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, Elvis and Tupac are alive, and Casey's is better than Sheetz or Kwik Trip if you want to with red lensed glasses. I choose not to.

I don't know what all factors get actively added together, but the attendance number not being the scanned tickets number is absolutely accurate.

"While announced attendance data — which pairs paid tickets with coaches, players, media, game officials and other stadium personnel — routinely puts NU’s attendance at games in the upper 80,000s for recent seasons, Nebraska also keeps track of how many fan tickets are scanned as they enter the stadium gates. It provides an additional layer of insight at fan attendance.

That data shows 79,105 fans had tickets scanned for the CU game, the much-anticipated contest watched by 6.3 million viewers on NBC. NU extracted revenge its 2023 loss in Boulder. Fans stormed the field afterward in celebration."

"The Buffalo and Ohio State scanned ticket crowds were the third and fourth smallest since 2014, just ahead of 2018 Illinois (54,838 in frigid temperatures) and 2019 Iowa, which had 60,232 scanned tickets.
The 2021 season was the first that had only two games with scanned ticket totals above 70,000, as well. Because the Big Ten didn’t allow fans outside of family and close friends during the COVID-shaped 2020 season, there is no relevant data from that year, and the sellout streak was put on hold.

Every one of these games mentioned has an 'attendance' number of over 86,000

Yes, but none of that includes tickets sold but not used.

I never said anything to contradict that. I just called out your bs exaggeration.

I'm not sure what you mean, but the attendance number absolutely includes tickets sold but not used. That's why the numbers are so consistent.

Let's look at 2022 Wisconsin as a specific example.

The official and announced attendance was 86,068. Yet there were only 46,613 tickets scanned in to the stadium. You can watch the broadcast and see the student section 1/3 full at best, the top of east stadium incredibly sparse, bleacher revealing holes all over the stands, etc..

So where does the attendance # come from? Because it's sure as crap not from that many people being there, especially when Colorado last year had 33,000 more scanned tickets but the attendance number was only 800 more.

So what about "The attendance number is not scanned tickets at the gate, but rather # of tickets sold plus comps/sponsorships/staff/etc." isn't accurate?

Here's some more quotes:

"Scanned ticket totals don't include concession workers, media, support staff, players and coaches, and some other counted heads that go into the announced attendance you hear for a given game. Nebraska's streak of selling out all the tickets to 375 games in a row, a record that dates to 1962 and many Nebraska fans hold dear, still goes on.
...
Even though the Husker streak of selling all the tickets remains, the numbers show not everyone is using those tickets, and there were some empty seats to find in Memorial Stadium during Iowa's 27-24 win over the Huskers on Black Friday. The student section had a lot of open space during the Thanksgiving weekend game played in rainy 30-degree weather."

"Fast forward a little more than a month, and Nebraska reached a new ticketing low, but this time via scanned ticket attendance. For a stadium that boasts more than 80,000 seats, the Omaha World-Herald first reported that scanned attendance to the team's Nov. 19 game against Wisconsin was 46,613. That was the lowest scanned ticket total since the World-Herald started tracking the statistic. However, per the university and its actual sold tickets, the streak continued, and the university and the fan base made it through another season that ended without a bowl game appearance."

100. Plus it's an argument over what "sold out" means.

Fellas, save this for June or July.
I mean, if it was butts in the seats, I am not sure if there ever would have been more than 2-3 sellouts in a row for anything ever. crap happens, people get sick, things come up, you might miss a game you had tickets for.

It's really the stupidest argument ever because until very recently Nebraska was able to move every seat in an entire season ticket package. ALL of those years were "sellouts" and often time attendance would not be max as not every game is marquee no matter how good the team is/was. So, the "sellout" streak has always included non max capacity games. To try to nit pick about more recent non max capacity games being significant when Murray State in 04 totally counts is dumb. There is no doubt enthusiasm for Husker football has taken a hit over the past 15 years. That said, the tickets still all sell, even if we may have to BOGO a section here and there. When we quit being able to do that, we can say the streak is dead and the sun will STILL come up the next day.

The sellout is hollow, as we all know from watching the games the past several years, tickets sold is not the same as attendance. Those are two different things.

its a sellout streak not an 100% attendance streak. Not hard to understand. If I sell hot dogs and have 100 hot dogs to sell and 100 people buy 1 hotdog but only 80 people show up to take their hotdog for whatever reason, I still sold 100 hotdogs.
I'll take 2 of the 20 you have left over.
