Michigan State Game Preview

This has to end.

This is the kind of stuff I think people put too much stock into. Bordering on superstition.

Indiana was going to win that game 10 times out of 10, whether or not it was after a bye.

USC was also coming off a bye. Does that cancel out Nebraska coming off a bye? I don't know what to make of it.

We probably beat NW either way too.

Frost just lost a lot in any circumstance. After a bye, before a bye. It didn't seem to make a huge difference.

I feel like this game will make or break our whole season. mich st is a very average team. we should not lose to them at home if we are going to take the next leap as a program.
Agreed. If we lose the hot seat for Rhule will be incredibly high.

I’m anticipating a 38-24 type game that isn’t particularly close in the 4th in our favor.

I feel this way about the next 3. Certainly, MSU @home should be a W. How the team performs in the next 2 on the road will be telling. I could possibly give a pass @Minnesota due to the short week.

However, I'll be fairly disappointed if this team isn't at least 6-2 going into the USC game.

Until we win 2-3-4 games in row, for several seasons in a row, (we won 3 in a row to start the season) I count on nothing. I don’t look back and I don’t look forward. Just win the next one, which has been hard for us for over a decade. Especially after a big game.
For me, I’m sweating this game. We just lost a big one at home, all eyes were on us on that one.
We lost.
New game, probly should win. Has our bye week been getting healthy, shore up, get nasty after it? Or did we sink into “well, we are who we are..”
A good team says, “crap we were there, let’s go get it.” A mediocre team says, “we played our asses off and weren’t good enough.” Let’s see who we are, I’m not confident until we prove it.

We should beat MI Lite. But will we?
Yes, we should.
4 weeks in, we know this:
Our run defense is not good. It’s actually porous.
Our offense is good until inside the 10.
We are a physical team, we do fly around (thank god)
Our special teams can get it done, finally.
We have talent, but need to keep discipline
(Very few turnovers and penalties overall, thank god). I’ve always said on this site we will live and die by turnovers and penalties, for like 8 yrs, those were my biggest concerns. Seems like we have overcome that.
We have some small gaping holes, but it can be fixed in a bye week, we have to pressure people deep on offense and get pressure on defense.
Which, as always, are our trenches ready to deliver on the OL and DL??

I think our OL can deliver, for once. I don’t think our DL can, conversely.
N wins 31-28 at home. It’s a “who has the ball last” kind of game.

Did we have a white RB flip to defense this year? If so I think that's our "surprise" rb2 (jk.. kinda). I feel like they may just flip the tackles. I don't know what else they could do to be a surprise. 3 LT's have played in multiple games.

Genatone moved from LB to RB. He was talked about as a short-yardage guy but not so much so far. He's fast but I doubt that's it.

If he plays we are in trouble. Fans were correct in saying we need another RB despite the bogus coach speak (or were they trying to bring up the confidence internally in that room?). Either way...the future of that position is bleak.
